This is two years now that the information from an Australian Games Day has been vastly superior to any others (though to be fair GD UK hasn't happened yet). What's going on with that? Seriously.
I want to go to Games Day and get my 40k Compendium signed.:( Also my copy of Gothic and the Eldritch and maybe my chest.
Now when you mention a Dark Eldar superheavy, was that just hypothetical discussion or did they say/imply they were working on one?

Chest ey? Kinky.
I'll go and talk to Mr Dembski-Bowden if he's there. :p
Though he might not be seeing as Alexander is at the "grabbing" stage.
Let us see what happens at GD UK. :D
I'll get as much info as possible.

i knew juan was a butt man all along, although he can do some very pretty fun bags too :)
i like that Jes (being the boss of the design crew) is pushing for plastic everything. less waste and less finecast LOL
remember though its not just Jes you have to show the top knot too now.

Thanks guys :)
I remembered to take a notebook - filled three and a bit pages so I wouldn't forget stuff. Pity my handwriting is terrible so bits of it were rather incomprehensible, lol. Just remembered somthing I didn't add in, but it's relavent to a thread here so I'll quickly put it in.
'twas a very good day out. Black Library wasn't as fun this year IMO, I think Gav was very jet lagged. They needed to feed him whatever they were giving Vetock - that dude was super hyped all the time :D
-
@ EG - We ask better questions  or maybe have more crazy note takers :p
It was also the second year where there was a reference to the design team solving problems with fights in the carpark...
There were two guys in line infront of me, both with Gothic and Eldritch. I went with my Compilation as I have very fond memories of buying it way back when. It's slightly falling apart now though. I'll probably get my Compendium signed if he comes out again.
@ TDA - take a notepad and pen, it really helps!
@ Codpice - Jes said that if he had hair he would rock the topknot all day, every day. When I do it (which I will), I'll keep people posted if I get a reply. It'll be a while yet though, hair is still rather short at the moment.
Edit: - Don't call the background "fluff" around Jes. One guy did and he corrected him, pointing out that it was Jeremy's job to create that, and calling it fluff devalued it. The questioner corrected himself by saying "the expanded universe background setting", which pleased Jes no end.

I always hated the term fluff for precisely that reason, started using it just because it was ubiquitous and am trying to break myself of the habit. I bet being told off in public by Jes Goodwin for saying it would help with that process.
I tried a topknot once, it made me look like a 7ft palm tree with very stubby fronds.
Did they mention any specifics about fights in the carpark? Just plain fisticuffs ordid they make a day of it and strip to waist and oil up...

He was forceful, but good natured about the telling off.
Well, Jes did mime ripping off his shirt incredible hulk style and flexing his guns so...
Jeremy was more in flailing slap fight mode.

What? Authors fighting in Car Parks is a thing?
Gotthammer

Yup! Last year Phil Kelly revealed it's how the writers decide who gets what project. Apparently in the design studio "there is only war" is more than a tagline (in seriousness he did say they often ended up in very 'animated' discussions).

It's a book collecting the first lot of 40k articles from White Dwarf for Rogue Trader. The reason you'd get Jes to sign it is it contains the Harlequins' army list (the compilation came out just after and has the Craftworld release stuff).

Thought I'd post this reply from Gotthammers blog wit hsome extra details from GD Oz:
Forge World Seminar
- Mark Bedford is the organic guy in the team, Will Hayes is for vehicles. They have a new guy (Blake) just for terrain. They now have a full time team. At times they will pay for Freelance pieces for team members to work on off the job.
- These freelance pieces are done over period of time so that Forge World can offer hobbyists a larger range with new releases.
- Not only did Mark mention possible Warlord Titan, but also a Stormbird. But the same deal with one guy having to spend a year and half focusing on just one big miniature.
- Unlikely for Forge World to explore digital media at this time. Imperial Armour books are like "big leather bound" history books from the Imperial Guards perspective. Also compared them to the historical miniature source books which is why the first Imperial Armour books had black and white pictures.
- Mark spoke several times during the seminar (and in the stands) about the Forge World painting classes back in the UK. He mentioned a possible world tour.
- Games Workshop stores wont be carrying Forge World kits. Would be too confusing for new members of the hobby... too many choices to pick from.
Jeremy Vetock
- Very enthusiastic guy who was showing off the 'Eavy Metal teams Dark Vengeance miniatures.
- He has COMPLETED two Codices.
- Currently working on a Warhammer Fantasy Armies Book.
- Wasn't able to talk about what he has been working on in any detail. I asked if any of his Codices were related to the Dark Vengeance release. He stated one of them "might" be... by the end of the conversation sounded like Chaos Space Marines and we "won't have to wait long".
- I asked about any word on Black Templars being updated. On his own accord he said Black Templars are in a difficult situation... do they put them into Codex Space Marines or do they keep their own book. I then asked if Space Marines are being worked on at the moment. He isn't sure what other teams are working on as he is working with his team on the Fantasy Book.
Interesting that Jeremy Vetock has written codices, I don't recall him writing any before but I may just be forgetting. He is responsible for Skaven (I think?), Orcs and Goblins and Okre Kingdoms, all very well received books even if the Skaven one did need a lot of errata and FAQs. He loves his greenskins so it is possible he would have tried to get Codex: Orks, but that is just speculation. Honestly I'd trust him with any army, I'd be quite happy to see an eldar codex by him (rather than Cruddace, though he has iproved since Tyranids).

I think that the bit you quoted is dire news. Out of all the space marine chapters, Black templars are the ones who hold least the codex astartes. What codex space marines is meant to represent. All they can do by adding them to codex space marines is ruin their play style and neuter them on fluff.
Also with them not winding Dark Angels into the space marine codex there is no need to wind BT into it. And I refuse to pay an extra £10 for a codex that contains x armies when I am only ever interested in one of them.

I'm wondering why young Mr Vetock thinks that Templar are in a difficult situation. One of the things that GW have said previously (in a couple of places) is that all the current codexes will be supported. As a long standing Templar player it would be a terrible shame for the Templar crusades to be rolled into the mainstream Codex. I suspect that there is no particular passion for the 'Men in Black' in the studio - along with the Templar probably not being a big commercial seller.

I think they said that of the current range of products none would be "squatted" so to speak. Now rolling them into Vanilla dex or a Fists (would like this more) codex would still count under that I reckon. The model range would still be there plus the chances of an update would be more regular. But it's all just speculation.
God forbid you BT players get the SoB WDex option, i'd rather of kept my witchunters dex!

Dunno, if it got me a basic marine with Frag and Krak grenades for 15 or 16 points and 35 point Rhinos I might consider a temp WD dex. I mean not like I'm getting a new full 'dex till 2014 at the earliest anyway.

Personally I don't see how Updating Templars is a hard thing. There's plenty of stuff they could do, you know like mass assault vehicles. A focus on our ability to relentless assault, etc.

That's good to know about not going the way of the squats. There are a couple of schools of thought about the BT Codex. With the change to 5th Ed the BT got a universal buff, and with 6th (because of the age of the codex) there is a real ability to put togeather some tough tough lists. But our characters are not necessarily on par with their Vanilla/SW/BA bretheren. From a figure range standpoint, the BT upgrade sprue shows it's age and is not as well crafted (these days) as the SW/BA comparison packs. But that is more due to age and the advance in technology.
I tend to think that the BT back story is sound and plenty rich enough - but I do wonder where my Templars fit in between the Vanilla part of the spectrum and the close assault end. And what would be done with the chapter to still further differentiate them in the 3+ marketplace. Just so long ans GW doesn't take away my chains and tabards!:)

The Dogs of war style allies makes me so very very very happy.
At the very least it opens up the possibility of adding some good non-humanoid xenos to the game, all you really need is an HQ and troop choice, maybe one other. Very little work is needed, so I hope they add some good creepy slimey xenos!

Exactly, and with 6th edition, Templars don't have the power to do that I believe. I mean the only viable list now really is Mass infantry and that will be hacked apart by enemy shooting easily.
Admittedly the fact that no unit can charge from a vehicle the turn they disembark, unless it's assault and the fact that it counts as disembarking in your turn if the enemy blew it up in his sucks. But at least other armies have reliable shooting. We still have to take target priority tests for goodness sake.

The difficulty is trying to do that without them being another BA army. I know the fluff and heladry are different, hell, the entire out look is, but in terms of games mechanics they would be powered armoured guys favouring CC

You could place emphasis on their different play styles. Such as Large 20 man marine squads, or making their rhinos assault vehicles. At the end of the day, if all you do is put them into Codex marines you take away their character. All they become is codex marines with a different chapter ability. Which would make playing them pointless.

Nope, as per BT FAQ they still follow rules for target priority due to the "Kill them all rule."
BT were designed under the philosophy that for every positive you got a negative.
In 5th edition, they could compete due to gimmicks such as their vehicles were cheaper compared to other marines. Apart from rhinos. Plus we could get furious charge and preferred enemy. With turning the prefered enemy into rage. Removing all the benefits from our special rules leaving only negatives BT are weaker. Our only anti tank at range is vehicles. and now they die easily. And our troops can now be kited across the board...
