Hey all,

Since i really dont like the blue paint scheme im using for my Crimson Fists and i feel like i did them all in a rush, i decided to strip them all (including drop pods and vindicator) and start over doing a Blood Raven Company. The ultimate goal is to make several companies and form them -with allies- into a whole chapter.

I found these tutorials on youtube and really liked them: so i went for this scheme
http://youtu.be/0x5th4ExIWk
http://youtu.be/9N56CtR5Iq8

Colours used thusfar are:

Armour:
3:1 mercherite red / Chaos black as basecoat
Red Gore as layer
1:1 Red Gore / Blood Red Highlight1
Blood Red Highlight2

Shoulders / Purity Seals:
Snakebite Leather as basecoat

Running a test on the most basic of basic marines i could get my hands on:
http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/warhammerpaintservice/Crimson%20Fists/101_3056.jpg
Note: this is only the basecoat and the first layer!

C&C Welcome tho

A nice solid red there! I like it.

Shame about the Fists... Now you can't be Space Mexicans. :(

Colours are updated in the fist post.

The one thing i found out today is that keeping your paints REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY watery and drop many layers it works great!

and this is the end result:

http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/warhammerpaintservice/Crimson%20Fists/101_3066.jpg

Conclusion is that all my Crimson fists are going to have a date with some brake fluid and a nice respray!

Hey guys and galls,
had some time to make a progress sheet - i really love these - took keep a close eye on my overall progress

http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/warhammerpaintservice/Crimson%20Fists/progress.png

As you can see on the sheet im currently working on my first tactical squad. But instead of running a batch painting job, which is way quicker i know, im going for the basecoat batch then paint the models one by one. This is more time consuming but ensures for me i dont rush my paint jobs, I really want this army to have a certain quality. Also im planning on keeping the weathering/scratching and stuff to a minimum, but am planning on doing that on a final stage of the army

I still havnt decided on how to do the bases; a) keep the industrial bases or b) make new bases with some rocks and tuft.

For now im off walking my dog, bringing my kids to school and then get some commission work done - need to paint a droppod force spacewolves- and get my Veteran Sergeant done
ill keep you all up to date

Hey all,

After a few disasters with painting i finally got back to painting my veteran sergeant. Still a work in progress but since im finally happy with the result i decided to post some pics of the work.

+++Front+++

- armour is done except for a final highlight on some of the parts, bit for that the model needs to be assembled. Currently working on the black parts. Kneedpad is primed and ready to receive the bone colour. Which by the way i decided will be the Reaper triangle for bone, Much easier to paint and i love reaper colours.

+++Back+++

- too bad i got a really shoddy camera at the moment..... i finally got the cloak down to where i wanted it to be. I really tried every trick in the book to get the <insert curse word here> cloak painted. even tried airbrushing the thing and then overspraying it on purpose! Hence the "disasters"....

Hope you all like them!

spend most of the day building my 2500pts list since my index finger hurts like hell.

this is what i came up with:

HQ
Chaplain - Digital Weapons, Jump Pack, Plasma Pisto
Librarian - Bolt Pistol, Epistolary, force weapon

ELITES
Dreadnought - Assault Cannon, Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon, Heavy Flamer, Drop Pod
Terminator Squad - Assault Cannon
Terminator squad - Assault Cannon

TROOPS
Scout Squad - Boltgun, Heavy Bolter, Teleport Homer
Tactical Squad - Boltgun, Heavy Bolter, powerfist, stormbolter, drop pod
Tactical Squad - Boltgun, Heavy Bolter, powerfist, stormbolter, drop pod
Tactical Squad - Boltgun, missile laucher, powerfist, stormbolter, drop pod

FAST ATTACK
Assault Squad - ccw, plasma pistol 3x, powerfist
landspeeder - assault cannon, heavy bolter
stormtalon gunship - twinlinked lascannon

HEAVY SUPPORT
Devastator Squad - 2x Lascannon, 2x Missile Launcher, Bolt Pistol, Chainsword, drop pod

plan is to deploy half of the pods near objectives and let the termies deploy on the homer.
then just have some fun. Talon hunts tanks, last time it killed 4!. Take some objectives and have some fun :P

I really like your red armour and the shading. Looks similar to the effect you could get with an oil wash.
I watched your link to girlpaintings video, I have mixed feelings about her painting personally. Some of its great, but some I think looks below par. But it's her constant grunting though her videos that's quite off putting lol.
Either way I think you have nailed the paint scheme. It looks very good.

I see your using Reaper paints, I love their triads.

Tonight finished Number 1 of my tactical squad.
Did a small conversion on the boltgun, i wanted something special for my tactical squads so i went for the biggie ammo clips.

http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/warhammerpaintservice/Bloodravens/101_3346.jpg

They are really easy to make so i already decided to equip my whole army with those.

Since there are no decals for the Blood ravens available, only the really expensive ones from Forgeworld, i made a decal sheet myself and printed it out with my dads laserprinter but since the blasted thing only prints black i still need to fill the blood drop.

example can be found here:
http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/warhammerpaintservice/Bloodravens/BloodRavenTransferSheet.png

On chars:
http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/warhammerpaintservice/Bloodravens/101_3348.jpg
and can be downloaded at full size here:
http://tinyurl.com/9dymybx - png version for editing @100%
http://tinyurl.com/8w2tzlb - pdf version just download and print!

Well thats it for now, getting some work done on number 2 of that squad.

I really admire your Blood Ravens icons. Mine are very basic: a silver triangle against the cream backdrop of the shoulder pad, with little wedges painted into the sides and top to form the semblance of feathers and the head, and then a red blood drop in the center. It does the trick, but your decals are better.

@electricpaladin: just head over to your local modelling supplier and buy a blank decal sheet, the blue stuff, print out the sheet (download it from here: http://tinyurl.com/8w2tzlb) print it with a laser printer (be sure to use the "cold setting") spray over some purity seal, cut to size and dunk it in the water and presto you got some ace looking shoulderpads!

talking of decal sheets im currently designing a new sheet complete with squad markings and the scribly stuff you find on armor be sure to keep an eye on this page!

Eh, actually I'm not too unhappy with what I've created. Yours are a lot more polished, but mine aren't bad. You can actually see some of my models at my new blog: tiny-plastic-dead.tumblr.com

Offense didn't enter the picture. Offense wasn't even on the other side of the hedge in the bottom left corner of the picture. I love feedback and recommendations.

Just finished my first 5 marines, and then realized i made my first combat squad for my new chapter:

http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/warhammerpaintservice/Bloodravens/101_3366.jpg

http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/warhammerpaintservice/Bloodravens/101_3374.jpg

http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/warhammerpaintservice/Bloodravens/101_3378.jpg

Im pretty happy about the speed that this project is going, less then a week and already 5 done.

Now im wondering, this squad needs a drop pod paint it now as a "reward" or paint if after im done with the squad?

looking fantastic, great job. Always loved the Blood Ravens, the colours are very striking, always more interesting than the single shade chapters.

had a pretty big fight last week about the hobby with my wife. and to be honest i got a little out of hand so she actually cleaned up my hobbytable and dumped all my stuff in storage, still working out with her how i still can keep doing my hobby stuff without letting it getting out of hand...

Damage so far is around a few 100 euro's
airbrush needle is bend, compressor has a dent and is not sucking up air
model damage is prolly the worse..... im to scared to look at that at the moment

Finally after the problems i had last couple of weeks my fist squad -and droppod- are done!

Though i was planning on painting up a second tactical squad and droppod i realized i had them soaking in brake fluid for over a month and didnt ven start cleaning them.
With the models now cleaned (did it at 0600 this morning) they still need to be totally dry before i start rebuilding them.

Yesterday evening i decided to build my devastator squad and droppod, they are ready to be primed and basecoated so ill finish those off and then continue on the 2nd tactical squad again with droppod.

(yes thats actually 3 pods already!!)
