So Saturday is almost here, and of course with it the new series of Doctor Who.

First episode is the rather wonderfully titled 'Asylum of the Daleks'.

And I am totally stoked for this! First I shall watch the preceding series, then close the blinds, get my dinner ready and enjoy!

I'm ready.

Been watching "Pond Life" this week, the shorts for the next series.

Karen G is so freaking hot, its a shame she's leaving this series...

And Bill and Ted is a most excellent film

I'm looking forward to it, I enjoyed the last episode with daleks in because for once they didn't hit the big red reset button and destroy them all again. Come to think of it that was the last episode I really enjoyed. The whole thing with Amys spawn and River Song just got irritating and silly.

Dr Who is a blatant rip off of Bill & Ted...

I hope this is irony...

Actually I find the new DW a little bit rubbish.

Firstly because fickle actors lack of staying power mean they have had to retcon the limited regen issue - something i found a good idea.

Second because new DW seemed to be a platform for Russell T Davies to unecessarily advance his 'life style choice' agenda.

Thirdly because it is filmed a lot in Wales.

Fourthly because the Doctor should not be boning his assistants. No matter how hot KG is.

Fifthly because it always seems every episode is EPIC! He must not just save the world, it is ALWAYS THE FATE OF THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE!!! WOOT! Back in the day the doc would save a random planet he encountered but now it is TEH ENTIREZZ OONIVERSE!

Sixthly because the epic storylines are accompnaied with EPIC music as opposed to the old BBC radiogrammic orchestra (or whoever) doing wierd experimental electrical stuff. Very moody.

Best Doctor = Tom Baker. Genesis of the Daleks - now that is a DW story.

- The limited Regen thing was a limit set by the High Council of the Time Lords. With no council, no such limit

Second because new DW seemed to be a platform for Russell T Davies to unecessarily advance his 'life style choice' agenda.
Maybe

Thirdly because it is filmed a lot in Wales.
Can't argue with that...

Fourthly because the Doctor should not be boning his assistants. No matter how hot KG is.
The only assistant with any thing like that was Billie Piper

Fifthly because it always seems every episode is EPIC! He must not just save the world, it is ALWAYS THE FATE OF THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE!!! WOOT! Back in the day the doc would save a random planet he encountered but now it is TEH ENTIREZZ OONIVERSE!
Every series is like this but not every episode.

Don't like what I saw of the new ones personally, too hollywood action movie for my taste - prefer something more story focussed.

Love the classic series and big finish audios though - great stuff. I think my favourite era was the new adventures books in the 90's though, liked how they went in a more darker adult direction and had lovecraftian stuff in it. My favourite dr who story is probably "All-consuming fire" which had Azathoth and sherlock holmes in the same plot!

MaltonNecromancer
09-01-2012, 01:23 PM
Well.

That was the single best Dalek episode since "Dalek" back in 2005.

Spoiler:

Genuinely chilling at times - the "human turned into a Dalek" was just horrifying. I loved the fact it obliquely referred to the same thing happening in "Revelation of the Daleks". That kind of body horror is something that's been missing from the series for a good long while.

Mr Mystery
09-01-2012, 01:24 PM

Wildeybeast
09-02-2012, 03:37 AM
Yeah, I really enjoyed last nights episode. And it picked up on the 'what's his name theme' from the end of last series nicely, and the martial tension between Rory and Amy was well handled and directed, I felt genuinely sorry for them.

Mr Mystery
09-02-2012, 04:11 AM
And of course, that would be our first meeting of the new companion, Jenna Louise Coleman, and her frankly lovely...erm....assests.

And an excellent use of a reset button to boot

So looking forward to the rest of the series!

Wildeybeast

Oh yeah, I forget that they can re-write what's already happened however they want. She'll make a good companion judging by that episode.

Mr Mystery
09-02-2012, 06:22 AM
Indeed.

Though I'd like to see more male companions. Kind of like Harry from the Baker era, or even Turlough (a much under rated character). But nothing like Adric. Definitely not another bloody Adric.

Though I can see a serious moral quandry coming up for the Doctor. We now know what the question is, and that the Doctor wants to be hidden in the shadows once again. We also know that the Daleks know much even the Doctor doesn't (he tracks down The Silence by interrogating a Dalek's datacore). And now....well now his plans to fade from sight have had a major, major leg up. And we know how this was achieved, and that the means...well they're about to become his companion. Will he change things? Will he put his need for secrecy and obfuscation about the needs of an individual? We know she didn't recognise the Doctor, or at least gave no hint......

Barely got started and the questions gather! I love you Steven Moffat!

I loved it, its just getting better and better. Its interesting to look back at David Tennant stuff and think about how that character compares and feeds into Matt Smith. Just err... Christopher Ecclefail. Don't think about that horrible horrible time when Doctor who was a rowdy northerner in a leather jacket...

Anyway, loved it all. Very excited to see how the new companion pans out. Do we (and the doctor) know her fate? Why did she not recognize him? How is she so clever yet works on a starliner? The Doctor killed some more Daleks in cold blood, is this more development on him as a character? Is he going to turn dark as Tennant did? "I am the last time lord, which means time obeys ME!" Love that quote from the Mars water creature episode.

I loved how they fooled us, everybody expects Amy to die - and we see a clip of the Doctor holding her body in the trailer, which was revealed in this episode to be her unconcious body, so theres that whole internet theory out of the water! I'm just really gutted that its only 5 episodes for this half :( but as a massive Stargate fan, am excited to see Ben Browder as the Sherriff in a couple episodes time.

Mr Mystery
09-09-2012, 03:15 AM
And so.....

Dinosaurs on a Spaceship....dodgy title, terrific episode!

And we're starting to see threads developing. First, the Doctor's musical connections have been dropped in twice. Secondly, info about the Doctor is being deleted and lost. First the Daleks, and now Solomon, a galactic gatherer of goodies was unable to identify the Doctor with his price scanner....

That's just a by product of the more cynical attitudes of modern writers. Also the killing is more acceptable to a modern pre-watershed audience.

Yeah I believe so. There was a scene that was cut from either film 4 or 5 which shows Han talking to Jabba (shown as you described).
