View Full Version : Looking for Suitable Models from Other Game Systems

Not sure if this is the right forum, but it didn't really seem to suit any of the others...mods?
Anyway - denizens of BoLS - I need your help!
I'm soon going to be starting my CSM army in earnest as preparation for the arrival of a new codex. Or the allied detachment for it, at least.
I'm going to be working on a small regiment of traitor guardsmen, and I figure the perfect elite slot choice for any force accompanying the Thousand Sons (and friends) is a group of renegade psykers (counts-as Psyker Battle Squad). The only problem is finding a collection of suitably unsettled-looking fellas (and/or ladies - female models would be great to throw in there) to accompany the rest of my heretics.
For the guardsmen in the army I'm going to be using the Vraks conversion kits from Forge World, and my HQ is going to be a counts-as Primaris Psyker using the model on the left here:

While I'm not looking for 'perfect' matches, I would like a batch of 9-10 models that look like they'd be at home with the other traitors in this regiment (perhaps along the lines of the fella on the right in the above image), and preferable offer a bit of variety in terms of poses.
As far as I can tell, there isn't really anything in the GW or FW range that fits the bill, so I'm looking into other game/model systems. If anyone knows of something that might match what I'm looking for off the top of their head though, and they could tip me off on it, that would be pretty awesome - I'd really appreciate help in my search!
Thanks in advance for any leads. :)

Did you consider the WHF Flagellants? Pretty crazed and unkempt. Head-on-fire-guy would lend himself well to the look.
Can't really think of any good 3rd party sources for crazed, unkempt magic-users, though.
Edit: also, a decent and relatively simple way to make robes is to flatten out some greenstuff and leave it to semi-harden jammed under a heavy object for about an hour (both surfaces it's touching should be moistened/lubed, though). After that, it's relatively simple to bend and fold it into robe shapes. You could potentially greenstuff some very simple sausage legs for the leftover Cadian torsos+heads (shave helmets down), then swathe 'em in robes.

Here are some suggestions, although conversions are no doubt in order:
Esyld by BaneLords (BNL-035) - I could see this one as the basis of a psycher, although a bit too NC-17 for my taste
Domina of Torment by Avatars of War (AOW49)
Skarrd Tribal Father by Dark Age (DAG3001)
Toxic Mistress by Dark Age (DAG3205)
The Blight Witch by Studio McVey (SMCV017) - Might be too cartoonie - looks a bit too much like Maleficent to me.

I'd second the suggestion of the WFB Flagellants as a possible idea, and also suggest you consider some bitz from some of the other WFB ranges -- I'm thinking especially of the arms & head bit from one of the Empire artillery sets where the guy has both hands clamped over his ears and he's shouting; it looks quite a bit like the model on the right that you showed above, at least in terms of the pose.
The other range that is possible is the Chaos Marauders, which would have heads that should be compatible with the Flagellants, if you need more bearded heads.
I'm also thinking of the conversion for his Psyker Battle Squad for his Blood Pact army, based on characters from one of the Gaunt's Ghosts books, using as the basis the WFB Night Goblin minis. I can't find the exact post on his blog right now, but the blog is here: http://davetaylorminiatures.blogspot.com.au/search/label/Blood%20Pact . Maybe someone on this thread knows the exact blog post and can provide a direct link.

Hmm, thanks for the help so far, everyone.
There are a couple of Dark Age minis that might fit the bill...anyone happen to know what material they are?
Esyld from Banelords could work with some gs cloak/robe stuff, too...
Apart from that it's really looking like some bitz here and there from Fantasy might be the way to go. This is harder than I thought. Thankfully I won't be starting on this squad for some time, but still...
Once again, thanks to the input from everyone. :) And if there's any more out there I'd love to know about it, of course!

Dark Age minis are metal.

Boo.
That severely limits which ones I'd consider. =/ Converting metal models isn't my idea of a party.
Thanks though.

Not what your asking for, but what about that old Inquisitorial Henchman with the big ole torch and book in his hand. Had the steam punk goggles. Maybe the Tharn models from Privateer Press?

Tharn models? From which faction/game?

The Tharn are a group within the Circle Orboros faction of Hordes. In particular I think the Tharn Bloodweavers are pretty chaosy. They're metal, but I don't think they'd need much, if any work.

Hmm...a little bit too tribal/druidic. And I know the psykers are armed with a laspistol/ccw, but I would prefer if at all possible to have no weapons drawn on the models - their greatest weapons are their minds, after all..
Thanks for the tip, though - definitely could be something there.
Incidentally I did use some Tharn Wolf Riders a couple years back to convert some Thunderwolf Cavalry - didn't keep those conversions around, but it's interesting to be looking at models from the same faction a few years down the road when planning another conversion, hehe.

Yay! I just found the articles:

I don't know if it's really what you're looking for, but they are a really good conversion for a Psyker Battle Squad nonetheless.
