The Cities of Death book reads (on page 39) that tank traps give a 5+ cover save.
However, the main rule book states (on page 21) that tank traps provide a 4+ cover save.
Which is it?

Cities of Death was written prior to 5th ed, hence the discrepancy.
Depends, if I was playing on a board already filled with 4+ cover terrain such as ruins and buildings, I would ask my opponent if they mind if we made tank traps 5+, just for some variety.

In my opinion, 5+ seems more logical and balanced.
I wonder why GW changed their thoughts on it...

Basically to streamline the cover save process, most things are now 4+.

I always thought that had to be a CoD typo because ruins and rubble both give you 4+. But then I realized they were probably thinking of the type of tank traps that are like big jacks made from angle iron (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/40/Tank_trap_-_Alderney.jpg). And I think a lot of people are picturing the Dragon's Teeth type (http://www.lonesentry.com/photoalbums/314th_regiment_79th_inf/siegfried-line-dragons-teeth.jpg) of tank traps that are huge block of concrete, hence the problem. I would therefore suggest that if its the former use the 5+, if its the later kind, use the 4+.
I hope that helps.

Why not use both yeah, good idea. Its Cities of Death so I think could use a little more consideration toward the terrain. Ive played several games where the entire board is filled with buildings/ruins with a few streets thrown in for the vehicles. Makes for a really intense game.
