New Necron Army!

Recently I decided it was time to something new. I always loved the aesthetic of the Necron army and the form of the new models. Here are some pics of the first couple units. Most of it is me figuring out how I want to paint this army (mostly the Immortals). The Stalker is the only model with a fully finished base.

As you can see there are two different styles of Immortals in these pics. Still trying to decide if the OSL is working or not and worth doing.

I approve 100%, the rust is brilliant, and the underlying colour is awesome, very different from most necron armies. I love how the green of the computers and the like all shine through the rust like they are brand new, the light pouring out of them, just stunning, you are a master/mistress of model painting.

Just doing a quick update with my first two converted Crypteks. I basically made them by combining Warriors, Deathmarks/Immortals and Lychguard. After some seriously bad luck with Finecast I have zero interest in spending huge amounts of money for a single pose model so doing it this way was a double win. I can customize them and they are plastic (which is the goal for this entire army...nothing but plastic).

That's an awesome Necron army for sure, some of the best rust iv seen and I love the dark blue/crimson mix. Nice to see more folks go for immortals over warriors too.

the conversion is a neat idea, but it doesn't really look like anything other than triarch praetorians, I hope when you play with this army someone doesn't pull a dick move with WYSIWYG

Nice work though, really! That weathering and rust is aaawesome - d'you mind if I ask how you achieved it? I'd like to have some pretty haggard-looking traitor guardsmen accompany my Thousand Sons army when the new CSM book drops, and your weathering techniques look like they'd be perfect - if you feel like sharing that is!

I see you had a similar idea about converting Crypteks as I did, too. I think yours look nicer than the kitbash ones I've done though...grats!

@ Emerald Rose Widow: I would agree with you for the first one as it was my first attempt at the conversion. I tried doing a bit using mostly Praetorian bits while changing up his main weapon. I would disagree with you on the second one though as I changed things up quite a bit by using Warrior Legs, the Deathmark Torso (which is smaller then the Praetorian one). If you compare him (even his weapon) with the GW one they are very similar, right down to the tail :)

@ Kawauso: Thanks for the compliments! The funny thing about this army is the blue is actually Shadow Grey. When I apply my rust technique it changes the colour a bit to look more blue (more pronounced in pictures).

As far as the rust techinque goes it is dead easy. I use a modified version of this:

I added a final step of applying Runefang Steel to the raised edges to give it a "chipped" look (also went over the blue/orange as a modified edge high light + final weathering step). Since I went much heavier then the tutorial my models didnt look right without that final step and its what really makes them pop. Once you get the hang of it it just flies by. Like a couple weekends ago I did 25 Warriors in one shot, which is a massive change for me as my 4000pts Tyranid Army took almost 3 years of work on and off lol

I have done a whole slew of work over the last month or so. Actually, I managed to finish up to 1500pts based and totally done.
