I've been playing 40K since the days of Rogue Trader, and since day one it's always been about the orks. My collection includes orks from every generation to present day. I do a lot of conversions and scratch built stuff.
Here's a pic from way back of some of my boyz hitting a Leman Russ. As I remember, it didn't go that well for da boyz.

I think 6th edition seems to be trying to recapture some of the fun spirit of the original, which is a good thing. It looks to me like GW has come to the understanding that the health of a property depends on the fans' ability to make it their own and breathe life into it.
