Hello Bell of Lost Souls!

We at Genius Factory Games (http://www.geniusfactorygames.com) have been working on several new counter designs that will be available shortly. However, we've been running into some snags with one of our more recent designs and would like to solicit some feedback as to what the community wants.

Our latest design is for a "Space Federation Target Marker" counter. This counter can be used to keep track of the effects of units equipped with laser target designators on the battlefield. However, we've run into a design snag-- namely, whether or not to include text in our design.

We feel that the text adds clarity to what the counter represents, especially for those unfamiliar with the "Space Federation" ęsthetic, but we're not sure whether the community would prefer more basic designs, as seen with our preexisting "Space Undead" line. (http://www.geniusfactorygames.com/webstore/#ecwid:category=1806931&mode=category&offset=0&sort=normal)

Below is a preliminary (iPhone) picture of the two prototypes-- one with text and one without--

Now that you've seen a picture of the designs in question, which one would you guys prefer for us to produce? Is there another option that you think might look even better? We've posted a poll attached to this thread that you can use to let us know your thoughts, but if you have any other comments or remarks, feel free to let us know either by replying to this thread or via email at [email protected].

As always, feel free to send in any other suggestions, comments, or feedback that you guys have-- we love hearing from the community!

My gut reaction is the one with text is the better one of the two. However, there are two issues concerning this in my mind, the first is that not all wargamers are english speaking, though this is more of a concern for your target demographic, which I assume you know much better than myself, the other one is a matter of fimiliarity. While the text makes it obvious to you to use that this is a targeted marker, with frerquent usage this could become a known entity, similiar to knowing what the GW markers meant despite them not having text.

Actually, I think I want to recast my vote for those without text, since its more funky than a disc and with use I would know what it meant which would mean that the text is redundant

Noted, good point.

Certainly true. The text is primarily designed to make things clearer to your opponent or to other observers, though-- not to you as the player.

Okay, we'll take this into account. Thanks for the input!

Circular with no text.

I voted for circular because while I don't think the text is necessary, I like the look of the round marker over the oval-with-cutouts one.

My issue with the text one is that is too busy looking. If you could shrink the text down a size, the space to image ratio would be more balanced. The lighting/angle also might be messing with me, but the spacing really jumped out at me.

With text.
For me it does exactly what it says with the text. It says what it is for both you and your opponent. Nice job too.

Fair points. We'll look into this.

Yeah, this is why we like the text element. It's not so much for the player's sake as for the opponent's-- and anyone observing the game!

Hey guys, just posting here to say thanks for all the feedback! In accordance with the community's thoughts, we've decided to go with the "text-included" version of this counter. However, we've refined the design somewhat by incorporating smaller text than in our original counter, hence decreasing visual cluster. Below is a picture of our new design:

The new counters are available from our webstore (http://www.geniusfactorygames.com/webstore/#ecwid:category=1806931&mode=product&product=14368092) in sets of four.

Thanks again for the feedback-- we couldn't do it without you! If you have any more comments or questions, feel free to either comment here or email us at [email protected]!
