Any body watching this/ watched this, i think its quite spectacular at the moment, I cannot compare it to China as i didn't see their ceremony but watching the changes through society is fascinating.

The Real Question..

Did David Tennant (The Doctor) light the torch?

Yo, Obliette Brits! Any of you feel like trolling the people up in the 40k Section who never bother to read the Obliette? Some of you should start making comment up there like "I heard there is some kind of sporting event going on here? What is that about?" Others could be like "What Olympics?"

-It is probably too obvious but you never know... a couple of you working together might be able to reel in some naive people.

I actually disagree. I think this one was really great to watch and I think the setting of it was just lovely. I think the hill with all the flags is a great addition. Further, china spent like, 3 times as much as anyone else ever has. Q

I thought it was very good, but I wouldn't say it was brilliant. The thing I'm most pleased with is that we broke the trend of spening more and more on the opening ceremony, exemplified by China spending £45m pounds. In contrast this ceremony cost £27m. It was understated and it was British, it just didn't make sense sometimes and it veered too far into the realms of silly at point. But I did prefer it to the Bejing ceremony which was just a case of 'let's wow people by throwing money at it. Which isn't to say it didn't have it good points.

I never would have expected HM the Queen to become a Bond Girl. That alone probably makes it the greatest Olympic ceremony to date.

I enjoyed it.

Just so many gorram countries, and the presenters realy didn't know what to say about them

Could have done without the Arctic Monkeys and (unfortunatly) Sir Macca. Not his best performance

China spent more on fireworks than we have on the whole ceremony, if I recall correctly.

Watching it live at a cinema screen was phenomonal! Especially as it was free. It was deffinitely spectacular, but in a verey different way to the way Bejing was "a spectacular".

I loved the stories woven in to the whole thing and the celebration of Great Britain; including some of the uglier bits of our last two hundred years.

I gotta say as well, I thought my chest was going to explode when the Union Flag was raised and the national anthem played, my heart was swelling with pride so much.

Don't forget the Chinese has a slave army of a billion people to help prepare and perform in it as well!

I dipped in and out (will watch the whole thing on Iplayer later) but it seemed pretty good to me. It achieved the aim of being uniquely British and I think having the young athletes light the torch was genius. No one saw that coming. I have to say that whilst China's was a massive spectacle, it lacked soul and heart. The British may have been quirky and not everyone will have got all of it, but it celebrated the British identity perfectly and showed it off to the world. I expect Rio will go down a similar route rather than the sheer spectacle of China. Appointing one of our best film directors to do this was a master stroke, I don't think anyone could have done it better.

I liked Voldermort, Professor Lockheart and James Bond with the Queen.
The rest I found hard to watch. It was weird, disjointed bobbins.
That money could have done so much good elsewhere.:(
The word on the street does seem to be whole heartedly positive though. I just can not work out why!?

Missed the first 20mins or so, but they had it on in the pub so saw the rest,

The NHS part was IMO a mistake.
Since when have they made steel in London?
Paul Macartney is over the hill and embarrassing,
Loved the bit with the queen but they could have had a James Bond rather than a bourne wannabe,
Didn't quite understand why they played a load of american hiphop sh!t and overlooked the British invented Heavy metal, and think something like the trooper would have worked far better than the artless monkees...

But thank f*** they got the flag the right way up

No, I've seen them all live and they're all sh!t.
It's just it annoys me more as they're the ones the likes of scuzz, metal hammer, kerrang and the likes are spamming at you constantly, and more obscure, better live bands get overlooked.

Tzeentch's Dark Agent
07-30-2012, 04:39 AM
I thought that Lostprophets were good live, not quite up to Muse's standard, but I doubt that anyone could beat them.
(they were the only band on that list that I like)

What I mean is you don't like Halo or Gears, etc etc...

Oh right, lol console gaming is killing gaming that's why. Mediocre fps/3rdps with an update every other year don't do anything for gaming. And the mistaken belief that spending hundreds of hours playing a first person shooter makes someone hardcore does my head in. That to me is the definition of casual gaming, I've got over a thousand hours of TF2 because that's the game I play to relax, it's a casual game.

Hard core games are the realistic flight sims, and in depth strategy and management games they simply don't make for consoles.

Plus they're boring lol. Look I'm a generic spas murineen and I've got to save the human race from this generic invding race that wants to eat/kill/steal our women <- every console shooter ever
