View Full Version : All the bells

Today, between 8:12 - 8:15 Martin Creed's work "all the bells" was supposed to have all the bells in a country ringing as loudly and quickly as possible. I have my own reservations about this whole thing, not least the amount of money he was paid to have his idea.
[rant removed]
Anyway, I was cycling to work this morning and never heard a single ding, nor a dong, or even a Bwooong!
I was wondering if any of you had heard or taken part in this peice?

I heard nothing, I wasn't even aware of it.

Nope, and there's got to be at least half a dozen churchs with bells within half a mile of my route to work, and considering you can occasionally hear at least one of them from the house, if they were ringing I should have heard at least one set.

Well then.... I have come to the conclusion that this man must be LYING.

Clearly there were no bells rung.

The bells are a lie!

It happened. But I don't know how many people were bothered, what with the Olympics being bobbins and all.

Does anybody know anybody who's got a genuine interest in the olympics?

There are quite a few people here at work who seem to be very excited about it all.

Well I suppose I have one colleague, but he just gets excited about everything, I mean he watches big brother still, and gets excited about I'm a celebrity. So it is kinda hard to take his olympic excitement seriously.

A couple of the blokes at work seem interested in the women's beach ball

There are some people who are interested in specific sports because they play them, like judo and I might watch the cycling.

There were some people ringing bells on the bbc website in at least 2 different places. The majority of ringers I know are opposed to the idea of the piece

I heard the bells. Then again it is a quite village with very, very loud church bells. It also happenned to be exactly as I was walking out the house to drive my dad to the doctors.

And you all know someone excited by the Olympics. Me. I'm off to see the Openning Ceremony at the cinema tonight and have tickets or cinema tickets for quite a decent number of events and am very much looking forward to cheering for Team GB and Paralympics GB like a raving nutter. All while wearing my Union Flag as a cape like I did at Silverstone.

Then again, Leicestershire is a very sport-centric county, and the enthusiasm is kinda infectious. My dad is a Hockey player and has met/played against most of the GB mens and women's teams (though not all together) competitively despite beign twice their age, so has massive respect and support for them. Having grown up around the sport, it's very exciting for me too.

As much as anythiong, I just want to enjoy the spectacle! How often do teh combined efforts of so many people in this nation pull together to show the world just what we can do? OK, so it wasn't that long ago we did it for the Queen's Jubilee, but this is a fairly exceptional year lol.

Shorthand for "I'm out of here" as a method of rage quitting.

On a side note, has anyone else noticed how often TDA suggests I need hugs?
