Necron Canoptek Spider/Scarab Question

When I add Canoptek Spiders and am having them spawn Scarab Swarms, do I need to include a specific number of swarms in my list? If so, are these swarms considered to be in reserves at the beginning of the game?

Several points:

Canoptek Spyders don't spawn Scarab swarms, they add Scarab bases to already existing Scarab Swarms.

You don't need to have a specific number of swarms, but you'd want at least one to add to. This one would have to be on the board, and within 6 inches of spyder to add a base to it.

The Scarab bases that you add aren't from reserve, they simply pop into existence. As such, you don't need to pay for them in your army list. The only limit to the number you can spawn is the number of Spyders that are in your list which are able to spawn, and the number of turns that they can.

Yes, it's worth noting that they cannot make new swarms: You need to pay for at least one swarm for the spyders to add bases to.
