Hi all
I have many lovely Power Fist equipped veteran Sargs. In 5th they turned many an expensive character into paint.
With the rises of challenges will they still be a worthwhile peice of equipment in 6th?
Will they just get killed before they can do any damage?
Are they still useful as a tool for dealing with all enemies?
cheers

Still useful for killing tanks and Terminators.
I prefer to loadout with Power Weapon and Meltabombs though, means that he's no slouch in a Challenge.

Fundamentally the issue is centred around whether or not you are expecting the sarge to be involved in challenges.
If not, the fist is still cool and good at taking things out, if he is then then the I1 is going to be a bit of a pain

You don't have to fight with the Power Fist. You can always just punch the challenger square in the nose and thus strike at your normal Imitative Step.

As other bigger characters also carry power fists to deal with the now tougher 2+ armour saves your sergeant will go at the same time in a challenge. Sure he'll die but he could take a much more expensive character with him. So I think they'll still be popular but cc equipment does feel a bit rock/scissors/paper in this edition - sometimes they'll be great, sometimes he'll be rubbish.

Challenges is one thing.
In such, you want to be high initiative and instantkill.
Fists are one sometimes, never the other.
Note that you pile in on your I, so in big units, fists risk being left out.
But there are other issues.
With wound allocation, precision shots and strikes and psychic powers, theres a bigger risk of that model dying.
You dont need the fist as bad any more.
No wounds from fearless and no retreat, grenades hit as cc weapon, glances kill vehicles.
For my CSM, its 40pts total to get the fist.
Just not worth it.
For vanilla marines, the naked sarge can challenge another character, simply to limit the damage to one model.

i play a death wing army so i have allot of power fists and thunder hammers running around on the bord almost all of my sgts and leaders have them i have only played a few games in 6th but have seen that for the most part in the challenge they are still worth it cus they kill most multi wound charters dead in one shot and since almost nothing gets a save against them (with the exculpation of some secktchy invulnerable saves) so yea you go last but if your sgt lives he will smack the **** out of almost anything with it but i guess it is a points vs how useful something is

I don't think I would bother with a fist for regular bolter squad sergeants. He will get picked off too easily. However, I might start giving some of my assault marine sergeants a storm shield to go with the powerfist. I1 isn't quite so painful if you have a 3++ to hide behind.
I think it would be useful to take a mix of fists and power weapons on your CC squads.
If the target squad has a fist, send in one of your squads with a PW serg to challenge and try to pick off their fist. If there is an enemy IC or termies, I would send in the squad with the fist and storm shield.

I wouldn't count out powerfist sergeants in challenges - there is always a chance that your opponent will fail to hit or wound. In a recent game, this netted me 3 VPs when one of my Tactical Sgts decked a Lord Commissar in a challenge - killpoint, First Blood and Slay The Warlord.

Hi all
Interesting thoughts.....I love power fists it puts somthing that can hurt anything (bar flyers) in each tactical unit making people thing twice about assualting them and making them more of the swiss army knife unit they are supposed to be.
My second game of 6th (1st against guard the firsts didn't reallt come into it) was a big 2 player vs 2 player game against Necrons.
Compared to the Warscythe the powerfist rarely gets the chance to strike but I think the Warscythe is a disgustingly powerful weapon that even suceeds in giving the Necrons a bit of close combat bite.

i would have to agree about the warscythe the thing is nasty, i mean rely nasty, but as far as i am thinking (especially after a resent battle with the nids) the power maul and thunder hammer are much better weapons for there point cost against multi wound enemy. the shear value of the concussive rule makes them worth there wait in gold in a challenge. the ability to wound more easily (on a sm a power maul strikes at str 6 and im sure a thunderhammer always strikes at str 8) make them the weapons for changeling IMHO
