So, me and my fellow Necron playing chum Mr Parsons were gibbering away in the pub last night about how awesomely awesome Tesla weapons are. And he brought up a concept army, where you field 6 5 man Necron Warrior units, each packed into a Nightscythe. Now whilst it wouldn't be much fun for your opponent to face it all the time, it's certainly a concept I'm well up for trying out (I love the flier kit itself, and have 2 already...).

However, rather than just packing in the cheaper Warriors, I'm contemplating doing it with Immortals. For a start their guns are just so much better, and for a relatively negligible increase in points, the unit is far more survivable thanks their improved save. 6 units of 5 Immortals (likely go for an even split of Tesla and Gauss!) in Nightscythes is a pretty paltry 1,110 points. Generally I can bank on an opponent matching 1,500, so this leaves a healthy 390 points for spending elsewhere.

For once, I'm happy I can do without Annihilation Barges, as 6 Tesla Destructors is more than enough, even for my tastes. To keep with the flying theme, I can happily bung in a Doomscythe to provide some serious anti-tank muscle, and my (let's face it) compulsory Overlord with Warscythe can be mounted on a Command Barge for not-much-points considering what he becomes capable of. And if I want just a bit more dependable anti-tank dakka, I can always pay for 5 Crypteks with Voltaic Staffs, which are frankly laughable cheap. Sure, it's short ranged but that's really not a problem given they'll all be mounted in Nightscythes!

I am so, so tempted to press ahead with this army. But is it just too......boring, for my opponents to face?

Seems like it might be fun to play, but frustrating for your opponents. Don't forget about the new rule that came out in sixth saying that at the end of any game, if you have no models on the table, you lose the game. With this list all your opponents would have to do is shoot down your Overlord in Command Barge and they win the game before the rest of your army is even deployed.

There is that, though it's relatively easily countered by deploying a couple of units on the board, instead of on their transport.

Do need to get my head round that rule.

And on a further note, I wonder what filth I could create by bumping it up to 2,000 points?? Stick with the single FoC though, as I kind of need to skimp on my HQ!
