Perhaps obvious, but when a Rending weapon rolls a '6' for armor penetration, you are NOT at AP2.
The Rending rule states that when a '6' is rolled To Wound it is at AP2.
Against vehicles you a '6' gives you an extra d3 for armor penetration.

I've seen some confusion lately on this, and since AP2 is now +1 on the damage chart I just wanted to remind us (I had to double check as well).

Not quite. They can get AP1 on a To-Hit roll of 5+, they still only Rend on a 6 To-Wound--it''s meaningless if they'd already rolled 5+ to hit, but on those 3s and 4s it gives you an extra chance to ignore armor on the to-wound roll.
