The Path of the Artist - Project Alaitoc

Hello all,

I have recently been inspired by Gav Thorpe's series "Path of", and I'm now starting an army based around the characters and themes depicted therein.
I shall be picking up a quantity of Eldar tomorrow and thus begin my Alaitoc army.

This thread is a project log for when I can upload some pictures. :)

Question: Thirianna, helmet or no helmet? :D

Well shes always helmetted in the books, but non helmetted might be a good way of making her stand out if you can get a good head, face and hair for her

She's described as being thin (even for an Eldar, screw you Space Marines, Eldar can do "even for" too) :D

I'll be making her in the pose that she is in on Path of the Seer's cover.

Dark Eldar have plenty of heads that would work. :)

Looking forward to seeing how this project comes along. If you are going to replicate the Path of the Seer cover, go helmeted. I'm sure the pose and lavished detail will make her stand out enough.

I do want to read the Path books. Might wait for an Omnibus to come out though.

I've been tempted to do something like this myself, actually. Nice contrast in colours to my own Craftworld and I was thinking of including some of the other Alaitoc characters introduced in Dawn of War II: Retribution.

Managed to get a game in with my Eldar on Saturday and won, it was a good game.
Man of the Match was Autarch Arathain (counts as Yriel) he chucked a spear at a zooming Stormraven and removed a hull point, then killed an Emperor's Champion, SUCCESS.

how do you maintain moral when faced with so many unpainted miniatures? i stumble when i have more then 20 to due at a time and quality suffers for it(less it's a big gribbly monster i pour lots of effort in those).

Trying to figure out how to do the mottled armour though, it appears that I have forgotten how to stipple successfully.

oh a spray gun eh? i hand primer all mine. and then get to the long task of actually painting them. by hand!

I spray black, spray the basecoat, then paint by hand. At least then you have paint on models and colour on the board.

All of my Necrons are at least basecoat bone coloured, most of them are at the highlight 1 stage.

My Storm Wardens are on the back burner for the moment however.

I like Finecast, just not on Eldar. Banshee swords and Ranger rifles are terribru for snapping.

Same. It get's annoying to have to pin every barrel on your pathfinders. It's what I've had to do. Not experianced Banshee swords yet though.

I thought they were whips when I saw my mate's Banshees. THAT BAD.
His Ranger's rifles have all snapped as well, I feel sorry for him as he's only just got back into the hobby after a 5 year leave.

Stripping paint off plastic, I use Dettol leave them in the undiluted dettol for about 6hours then scrub off the paint with an old toothbrush.

For metal I go for a regular paint stripper like nitromors. Just dont use it on plastics or it will melt them



Just found out nitromors is banned lol dunno what to suggest in its place but dettol would work too I guess.

I use Fairy Power Spray here in the UK for all minis, metal, resin or plastic. Just don't leave resin in it over night or it transforms into rubber.

Spray, leave for ten to twenty minutes and scrub with a toothbrush.
