FW have just put up a new pdf detailing how their army lists work in terms of the Allies rules:
Imperial Armour Allies (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/a/allies.pdf)
My favourite bit:
Eldar Corsairs Armies
When using the Allies Matrix (page 113, Warhammer 40,000 rulebook), Eldar Corsair armies are treated as Eldar armies when both selecting allies to fight alongside them and when using them as allies for another force. The exception to this rule is that they may ally with Eldar armies as Battle Brothers.

Well, that's me locked in to do Eldar. Well done Forge World! You win! :D
I have also noticed that we haven't had a new model in weeks. How odd.

By allying Corsairs to Eldar you can actually get all three flavours of conehead by taking allies as Elites in the Corsair list. Putting Dread Mobs with codex Orks could be fun, especially at 2000pts for a ludicrous number of KFFs.

What I really love about this is you can get the Far Seer who is a better Psyker then the Void Dreamer. The Corair's psychic powers were just not that good.
The Corsair prince on the other hand is awesome and I think way better than the Autarch. He would be handy in any eldar army.

cool.
now I can do my dark eldar/corsair eldar mix I was hoping to do.
which works too because with duke as the first HQ and a corsair prince as an allied HQ, I'll be able to run full on pirate eldar.

The questions for Chaos players remains...which one is better, Heretic allies or Imperial Guard allies? Eventually there will be that traitor guard rule that make IG battle brothers for CSM, but for now they are just allies of convenience.

I really hope there is such a rule.
Currently, it's pretty awesome to take IG as CSM allies. The Primaris Psyker is a nice addition for the Psychic Shriek power combined with the Psyker Battle Squads, and you can never look down on Vets with lots of special weapons in a nifty Chimera. Also a fat squadron of tanks, if you have the points for it. Just all around awesome.
I think the Heretics will bring an interesting flavor to the table in terms of allies, but I don't think they have the options that IG do.

Ooooh, Tyrant's Legion... tasty.
The Tyrant's Legion are perfect to represent Alpha Legionnaires.

The problem is that the Tyrant's Legion can only take Allies of Convinience from the IG and SM. This means that there really aren't more benefits than a regular IG army can provide. In fact isn't the IG codex superior to the Tyrant's Legion anyway? Don't know myself but it could make for an interesting Alpha Legion army anyway.
Otherwise I'm considering using the Heretics rules instead of IG. They have a nice Armoured Fist Company and when they fail a morale check the enforcer just kills the sarge with no rerolls. This is better as the unit has effectively passed the test while the IG have a chance to fail again (albeit a small chance). Also true Alpha Legionnaires in that list!

So very, very pleased that my planned Corsair force can now ally with my Craftworlders. Looks like I'll be doing a few Dark Eldar in time too!
