Does anyone know where I can find a more detailed list of Guard regiments than Lexicanum?
Also do any of you know any regiments that specialise in Sniping (other than the Tanith)?

The Athonian Tunnel Rats like sniping, they're quite sneaky.
They also have double-barrelled Lasguns. :D

I'm not sure where you would find a comprehensive list and their style.
Maybe IG dex they have some, but IIRC that is just colour schemes, similiarly with Imperial Armour books.
Does the Infantryman's Uplifting Primer carry any information regarding that?

Not sure if there's any fluff that specifies that the Athonians have a significant specialisation in sniping. The BRB 5th ed says they do urban combat -- which IRL includes a lot of sniping -- but Emperor only knows what urban combat means when you grow up on a hive world.
The Catachans specialise somewhat in sniping -- at least their codex had an awesome (idea at least) unit of (I think) 1-3 snipers who secret deployed separately!
The Tallarn also specialise to a certain extent in sniping. Well, they're desert fighters, and unlike urban combat, I don't think desert fighting can change that much over 38,000 years. Also, Forgeworld has snipers for them: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Guard/Tallarn_Desert_Raiders?filter_reset=1 .
Regarding a more complete list of regiments for the IG; what do you think is missing from Lexicanum? I know many of the regiments have no/very little info, but that's because for many regiments, GW has provided only a name.
If you want a more complete list, I'd suggest getting old editions of the BRB, IG Codex (and, hey, other codexes too!) the old summer campaign codexes and any of the BL fiction that focuses on the IG and making your own list. And when you're done, could you send me a copy, too? ;)

There's not really any fluff for them at all, I'm just going via real world reference. :D
On that point, EVERY regiment should have snipers, EVERY armed forces regiment uses them.

All Guard Regiments would have snipers in. The only Regiments I know that specialise in sniping are raised on Ornsworld, and then deployed in detachments where their expertise are needed.
I mean of course, ratlings.

I was asking as I am currently in a play by post campaign online for "Only War" the new Guard rpg. As we're role playing guard our characters tend to die a lot. Currently I'm a Praetorian heavy bolter gunner, but I'd like my next character to be a sniper.
You can play as a ratling but our Gm doesn;t want any abhumans.
Most of the main regiments, such as the catachans and tallarns, have rules already. I was looking for an official GW regiment with a history of sniping. I couldn't really find any that suited on lexicanum.

Clearly the GM is a species-ist.

That's a really tough one. As we all know there is basically almost no support for almost all the regiments out there. I'd go with the Macharian Crusade campaign book made by Bols for some inspiration. Other than that, maybe a Necromunda regiment?

Seriously, come to Anthos, it's no longer full of Necrons! *thumbs up*

You could go with Valhallan. They have a russian vibe, what about Vassili Zaitsev? Part of the 1047th Rifle Regiment of the 284th Rifle Division of the 62nd Army. So I would say either the 1047 or 62 Valhallan could now be reknowned as a Regiment for the pruposes of raising snipers who are then sent out to trickle the skills down.

You can also be inspired by the Russian campaigns from the Call of Duty series.

My problem is I already made up rules for Tanith and Valahallans. But I'm sure the GM will let me revisit them.
Otherwise my regiment is going to be Gudrunite rifles.

Sorry if I wasn't clear -- I'm aware that sniping is very important in urban combat in real life.
My point is that urban combat on a hive world is -- in my imagination at least -- vastly different to real-world urban combat. It involves more crawling through air ducts, vicious short range firefights in dimly lit rooms, and desperate hand to hand in corridors. So, basically, I imagine the Athonians specialise in recreating the film Aliens ;)
And very little sniping, I imagine that there are very few spaces in the average hive that would permit sniping.
To the OP, why not go with a regiment that doesn't have a great reputation for sniping? In fact, why not go for a regiment that has a reputation rather opposed to the idea of sniping? Perhaps from a feral or medieval-type world?
In my experience, a character for a RPG can be more interesting if it's built around this type of conflict ...

...
Because I want to play a sniper.
Our campaign has us as a Penal unit gathered from different regiments. Basically only sgt, commissar, operator, weapons specialist and heavy gunner class characters. no ogryns, ratlings, pyskers or techpriests.
So far I quite enjoy it. But my heavy bolter can't seem to hit anything.
You're spot on about hive worlds.

Sorry, I meant why not play a highly talented sniper from some regiment that you wouldn't normally associate with great snipers. I think this would make the character more interesting because of the friction between his/her natural talents and the idea of being a good warrior that he was brought up with.
I was just making a suggestion though. It's just a little less predictable than "I'm a sniper from the Sniper regiment of Snipers from planet Sniper" ;)
I think we've come to the conclusion that GW hasn't done a regiment dedicated to snipers.
Oh wait, one last suggestion: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Asgardian_Rangers#.UAQHS3aI2kI
Wait, the description even says "adept at sniping". Do I win the internet?

Threadomancy powers activate!
When you've run this game, can you please share the idea? I'm interested ... assuming it's more developed than outpost's communications have gone down and it turns out genestealers are at the bottom of it ;)

Nope, I don't do cheesy RPG sessions. :D
It'll involve Genestealers and Athonian Tunnel Rats, that's all I know currently.
