i hear in yee olden days of warhammer monsters were far more of a threat then they are now. stories of how a single elf on a dragon could charge a 30 strong unit of swordsmen and assuredly come out the victore were common. i have yet to have a large enough game where monster could be used. do most fantasy player find that their monsterous allies aren't as buff as they used to be? simply there to be cannon fodder while the infantry hordes save the day?

It all depends on how you use them. Send them in supported and they will rack you up healthy number of kills and swing combat res in your favour. On their own and even the most basic troopers will see them off in large enough numbers. They definitely have their place in an army, and given how nice the new models are they are worth including, but they certainly aren't game winners on their own. I would disagree that they are simply cannon fodder, though as an Empire player that is usually what my opponents monsters end up becoming. IMO they are nicely balanced at the moment and that is a good thing.

In previous editions monsters could be much more formidable on their own, that much is true. This largely stemmed from how the game was played though, and not necessarily the monsters themselves. In previous editions only the front rank of troops could attack, chargers always struck first, and casualties came off the front ranks. Given that most monsters have a move of 6+, they often managed to make the charge and faced little in retaliation due to them killing off the front rank. Monsters were also more dangerous as flankers since most of them could disrupt formations if they managed to pull off a flank/rear charge.
In 8th edition, as Wildey pointed out, monsters must be supported by ranked infantry. They need the ranks of the unit so the opposing unit doesn't remain steadfast until it has four models left. They are not useless nor are they simply cannon-fodder. They are just more balanced than they used to be in previous editions.
For all of these reasons my my Doomwheels were much more horrendous in 7th edition than in 8th. I must now coordinate my Doomwheel's charges with those of other units as it is pretty easy for a unit to bog them down and keep them locked in combat in perpetuity.

well i'm not much of tactician myself.. but i perfer my expensive epic dragons sqaures off against another monster rther then a horde of infantry. epic battles and all... still it sucks big time if he gets rammed by infantry horde while duking it out.

You can cordinate your Doomwheels? That is impressive, my mates virtually always end zapping and mushing his own troops. :D

Eh, Random is random I suppose. My doomwheels are usually pretty fantastic but I've had a few games where they either did nothing or hampered my plans.
In fact, the last time I played I had a doomwheel move up on the flank, get shot and went out of control back to the boardedge, then move up again... wash, rinse, repeat. That's all that he did except shoot some of my own slaves.

There's a lot to tell and the stories aren't too easily. You can cordinate your Doomwheels? I agree, that's really impressive. ---Cialis Online (http://www.carlmontpharmacy.com)
