From here (http://bloodofkittens.com/blog/2012/05/05/network-news-the-6th-edition-leak-and/):
The Imperium is fracturing and the Space Marines are starting to separate themselves from the Lords of Terra. The heretical and xenophobia has gotten to a tipping point causing many chapters to take actions against the “best wishes” of many in the Imperium.
A discovery of galactic importance has happened.
At a time before right before the Horus Heresy the Emperor had intrusted Roboute Guilliman in the protection of one Xenos race that was completely immune the temptations of Chaos and would prove the ultimate key to the destruction of Chaos. The Horus Heresy ended such plans. Fast forward today with discovery of these lost correspondences, it is believed by the Ultramarines and others that the Tau are that lost race. So now instead of being charge with their destruction the Astartes are the Tau protectors.
This is all 100% bollocks. The Imperium is not fractured, the Marines are not splitting from the High Lords of Terra, heresy and xenophobia are the same as ever, chapters are not taking actions gainst the best wishes of the Imperium.
A discovery of galactic importance has not happened.
The Emperor did not entrust Guilliman with the protection of a xenos race that was immune to Chaos. The Ultramarines are not protecting the Tau.
Also Blood Angels are not fistbumping Necrons.

This makes me (and most Tau players i'm sure) very happy.
Although I've been using the Eldar protecting the Tau to help fight chaos as my Craftworlds/Tau Sep'ts fluff for years already....

Well that's all a bit of a let down. Changing the status quo would have been nice.
I think we really need to get the point where the Astartes are less xenophobic. They NEED to work in conjunction with the Eldar, especially, to deal with the Chaos threat. Maybe Abbaddon needs to actually succeed on a Black Crusade to make this happen.
Sometimes I worry that there isn't enough "go forward" in the fluff. As shallow as the Privateer fluff is in some places, it at least always seems to be moving forward...

I am actually really interested in reading the new fluff. There is so much excitement over the rules, that the story seems to have been pushed to the back of the rumor bus. :)

Mister Shades jsut made a good point to me on MSN....
How much did BoW actually get right?

A fair bit rules wise, nothing fluffwise. However what the ygot right tended to be a bit vague and lacking in context quite often.

For that matter, how much are they posting the most outragous, troll worth rumours to simply increase traffic and therefore ad revenue?

While I do want the fluff to move forward, Space Marines and Tau being bro-bros was just another way for GW to sell more marines. Who wouldn't want marines backing up the Tau? So that piece of fluff did not sit well with me.

This thread is talking about 2 different sites with very similar initials.
BoK=Blood of Kittens. Quite often full of crap but always has something interesting to say(whether based in reality or not) in order to keep site traffic up. He is a spinmaster and agitator who always thumps his chest when he gets something right but conveniently forgets about all the things he gets wrong.
BoW=Beasts of War. Quite often right on the money and rarely says anything they're not pretty positive about. Seem to have some support from inside GW that gets them their scoops shortly before GW can officially announce anything.

Aww... :(
I really liked that idea.

But vanilla Space Marines are the only other army besides the Craftworlders with whom the fishheads can be battle brothers, so in that sense he was correct. But Calgar doesn't took upon any Ethereal or Shas'O as a little brother to protect though. That image was rubbish.

Also for the record, the Necron-Blood Angel "bro-fist" thing wasn't from the rulebook or BoK, but from the existing Blood Angels codex.

The Necron/BA bro-fist picture is awesome. I think it was a good idea to keep it because it has been at the top of many BOLS posts regarding allies rumors in 6th edition.

So in all this, if that isn't true then is there any fluff behind why Space Marines are "brothers in arms" with the Tau?

There's plenty of fluff in the past that depicts codex-adherent chapters working with the Tau for mutual gain, and the Ultramarines admiring their battle prowess.
Remember the 'brothers in arms' ruling doesn't mean they're buddy-buddy with the Tau...it means that when they do work together, that temporary allegiance comes easily because they see eye-to-eye in many regards.

Whether he's a great guy in real life or not, I have good reason for my statement about the web site so don't be calling people names when you have no business doing so.
He runs a web site for tabletop gaming enthusiasts, I'm sure he's got thick skin.
Opinions are like buttholes; Everybody has one and they all stink. Mine included ;)

My point is, first off, that people in general shouldn't act like dicks, especially towards people who are doing you the favor of spreading rumors. There are a number of rumor guys who were very friendly, polite, and accurate, who have stopped doing their thing because it wasn't worth dealing with the internet.
Secondly, TasteyTaste merely relays the stuff he hears. Yes, he has a sense of theatrics. So what? He doesn't make stuff up, he doesn't lie about stuff, he just relays what he hears. Some of it is out of date, and doesn't make it into the final edit. Some of it may be chaff from GW. But most of it is pretty accurate, and it's a lot better than not knowing anything at all.
Third, if someone talks crap about a friend of mine, I will call them out for being an @#%hole. That comment wasn't particularly directed at you, Mr. Furious, but there are plenty of idiots who give TasteyTaste crap for no good reason other than ignorance and a general sense of malevolence. I'm sure there's something about standing up to bullies or being the change you want to see in the world or something like that in this, but whatever. Whether or not calling them out on it makes any difference, being a dick isn't cool, nor should it be tolerated.

DarkLink,
I don't want to get in an endless e-fight so I'm going to try and wrap up my end of this here.
I know first hand that TastyTaste was given some information that he could have used in several ways. He could have taken the high road and reported responsibly letting his readers come to their own conclusions based on the facts at hand or he could have spun the information, injected his own opinions and personal agendas and forced his views on his readers not giving them the opportunity to form their own opinions based on the facts at hand.
He chose to take the low road and he lost all of my respect an trust as a news source.
Not everything in the world of tabletop gaming involves little army men.
If you're going to go on a crusade against bullies, you should make sure you're not defending one.

The Emperor did not entrust Guilliman with the protection of a xenos race that was immune to Chaos. The Ultramarines are not protecting the Tau.
I figured that wouldn't work since Guilliman's in stasis before the Tau are even discovered. Didn't stop one of the guys at the LGS telling me in hushed conspiratorial tones that it was totally true.

I never saw anything in any of his posts to indicate anything more than relaying what he's heard, and mentioning his thoughts on it. So what if he added in a bit of theatrics. It's his own blog, after all. You don't want to hear what he has to say, then don't read it. He's under no special obligation to serve your whims. Don't feel so entitled.
Besides, after all the crap big media corporations pull, I kind of laugh at the phrase 'responsible reporting'.
If you're going to go on a crusade against bullies, you should make sure you're not defending one.
Really? Really?
Do you know TasteyTaste? Have you ever met him in real life? Have you ever spoken with him? Ever played a game with him?
You are assuming, with no justification whatsoever, that he's an *******. He's not. I know him in real life. I've played 40k with him before, and hung out with him on several occasions. He's a cool guy.
You, on the other hand, have shown every indication of being a judgmental douchebag. I don't know, maybe in real life you're a nice guy that just happens to lack moral judgement. But, really, why be such a dick over a game of little army men? Chill out, and stop being such a hypocrite.
