Simple Green is the best thing I've used thus far. Pine Sol works too, but leaves the models a bit sticky.

Like Tynskel said, simply green works great. But also theres this stuff they sell at the local Dollar store, it's called Totally Awesome (yes thats the name lol)or it works just great and its only a dollar.

I need to soak them or just spray them down an scrub them with a tooth brush

I alway soak mine in a glass jar for a few days and then scrub with a old toothbrush. If need be you can always put them back in if paints really bad.

they are pretty bad, I can see another layer of paint under the coat of primer on some of them

Soak them for a couple days then scrub and repeat if you feel they needd it and you should be good.

yeah, that should work.

The plastic might get soft, though, but it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Check this video out... It's a step by step tutorial. Safe on metal, plastic, and resin.

Hope it helps. :)

I use nail varnish remover. Works just fine for me. But that being said I can't get simply green here in the UK.

The best stuff I have found here is Dettol.

How does the polish remover work on vehicles? I cant seem to find a good way of dealing with them.

The dollar stores near me (Florida) have this cleaner under the name L.A. Awesome. The stuff works of plastic, metal, and resin (though I haven't used it on finecast yet). It has 3 advantages...

1) you can leave plastic models in the stuff for DAYS if you are not pressed for time - though it seems to do about 95% of what it is going to accomplish in about an hour

2) LA Awesome is just a soap so gloves are not necessary. I do reccommend protective eyewear when using any chemical though.

3) It's just $1 per bottle!

Bonus) the stuff has no strong chemical smell so the kitchen Commissar doesn't complain.

That stuff is Awesome :) Glad to hear someone else has tried it...
Its been my go to for stripping for a while, just never tried it on vehicles. Wasnt really wanting to dunk a rhino in something if i didnt have to.
