Considering doing a base coat of white with this stuff (http://www.montana-cans.com/products/Cans/Montana_GOLD/Montana_GOLD_400ml/61). It's acrylic and claims to get good coverage. I'll do some details and washes afterwards.

Not looking to win any prizes for painting, just a 'pretty-good' 3 color standard.

What's your experience?

No experience with that brand.

If you have any Krylon stuff available locally, that I -can- vouch for, and it's fantastic. I've used a wide variety of sprays in the Krylon range for minis and am very pleased.

Never heard of Montana...I don't think it's available around here.

bought a can and tried it today.

My experience was poor. the Montana gold was splotchy and dotted at a distance. Up close it was too think and covered the details. maybe a different nozzle was needed.

i switched to Army painter and was much more satisfied with the result

I personaly use an airbrush with the vallejo primer, it covers just thin enough to do the job, but not overly thick or anything, and its nice.I always love the results with that stuff, would even work with one of those cheapo airbrushes, but overall the quality is wonderful and the black is a very good full black. The white of vallejo's I have no experience with, but I have used the grey and black and both work wonders.

I used Montana Gold's Shock Green to do my Sons of Medusa army, it works great on infantry, but is unusable on tanks or anything with large flat planes if you plan to use washes on it. It's surface is much too glossy for washes to adhere unless there is a lot of detail on the model.
