The slaughterer looks nice, especially for a mish mash of old and new weapons vs technology.
The hulk of nurgle has some nice experimental rules, the Rancid Vomit rule especially, (2+ wound against any model with a toughness value)

and the TAU getting a slightly larger incarnation of the crisis suit, theyre starting to step up their vehicle size... maybe in lieu of a titan? or even a semi-titan.

Official announcement in 2 days. I think these were in a recent "preview" email.

I'm curious as to the expected release. That Nurgle Hulk looks great and will round out my soul grinders nicely, even if it is only "counts as" soul grinder. But the experimental vomit sounds interesting. I'm curious if there is any change to the back plate of the soulgrinder base...as in a nice steaming pot of corruption instead of a spine hatch.

I had such high hopes about the new Tau design, but I have to say I really don't like the new battle suit. The feet, shoulders, and head just don't look right. Especially the feet. My eyes are just drawn to them. Then there are the skinny chicken legs and the bulimic waist. I don't like the current plastic suits but if these were to replace them at any point I would field the old ones.

LOVE the tau suit, but I hope it can take other weapon systems. One more new chasis that can have a burst cannon makes me want to hurl.

An XV 9... I wonder if forge world realizes that tau deal in base eight math...

Hey Forgeworld? Seriously?

WTF

Before i go any futher and step up onto my soap box, if you feel cheated like me, check out this thread:

Ive stood by and patiently waited...for a long freakin' time...while you guys blast out the models for chaos. And, being a chaos player, ive been very happy and excited. Or at least, i was until i realized everything you guys release is either khorne or nurlge. How much khorne and nurgle love are you going to give before you turn your attention towards ANYTHING ELSE? Seriously! Im just so sick of all this nurlge and khorne stuff. I dont even know what the non-chaos players are feeling right now, they havent seen releases in years.

Forgeworld released a SECOND nurlge dreadnaught before tzeentch or slaanesh got ANYTHING other than the three models both gods already have (combined - keeper of secrets, two dreadnaughts). You guys have made a staggering amount of khorne and nurgle stuff while the rest of us just sit around with nothing. Hell, khorne even got his own superheavy!

Its not like nurgle players need the help with their models. Ive sculpted nurgle stuff before. Slap a bunch a green stuff together, make some diseased effects, a couple holes and a big gut. Done. And dont even get me started on painting nurlge...

All Im saying is give it up with the same old crap. I, for one, am sick of it.

"Welcome to the ADPolice. Don't step in anybody." - Leon Nicolle, 2025

I have always felt that the Tau were heavily influenced by Mecha Anime, and the Crisis suites always looked a little like K-11 Battle Suites from Bubblegum Crisis, or possibly a DD Battlemover. This XV9 looks so much like a cross breed between the K-11 and K-12 Armored Trooper it makes me want to start a Tau Army, just the the principle of playing the ADPolice.

*sigh* If I ever win the Lotto I guess...

hum, gotta say the rules look nice for the XV 9 but certainly not the model. What's with the knob things on the knees? Does it have a tumor or something? The head just doesn't work for me ether, not sure why though.

The nurgle thing looks pretty nice though...

Right on with the bubblegum crisis reference.

Maybe they will give us Largo in the next codex, "You dare wound... me? Me... a god?"

What strikes me as even more important than the appearance of the suit are the "experimental" rules for it.

This is the first Tau model with Toughness 5, and counts as a fast attack choice. Toughness 5! No more instant death from lascannons! That and with the bulkier, larger design... I think this is a sign of things to come for the Tau.

I'm predicting more XV9's in the future as new weapons variants have already been announced and it's only a matter of time before we start seeing XV9/XV2 commanders in a forgeworld codex and hopefully the new Tau codex in 2011/2012. Currently as far as suits are concerned, the Tau are one of the only armies without some upgrade for the HQ that protects them from instant death and sorely need more options in their loadouts. Giving suits Toughness 5 would really help, and the ability to take more suits as fast attack... Sheer joy. Heck, the rules for these guys are just fantastic all around.

All of them have multi-trackers, all of these guys have vectored retro thrusters and all of them have two twin linked burst cannons. This... this unit is fantastic! Hell, it's better than pretty much any other possible unit for taking out hordes of lightly armored units! And they come in groups of three! Seriously... How much better a unit could you get for the Tau?

Great design, fantastic stats, adds something NEW to the army, fair point cost... Pinch me, I'm dreaming. This HAS to go in the next codex. It just HAS to. LOOK at this thing! I can't stop gushing over it!

I hope this new suit is just a misplaced attempt to give Tau more options that doesn't go further in this particular direction. As an army, if Tau are supposed to maintain superiority over other armies with their combination of firepower and mobility, and have lost a little bit in this regard, then newer options should help to redress this balance, not turn them into yet another mass army.

That said, I admit it would work very well in a Farsight army.

It's not going to make the Tau into a horde army. It's a suit, not a massive squad of 12 close combat fighters, and they don't even have melee weapons. They're meant to be used as close to mid range gunners that take out masses of horde infantry, aided by pinning gun drones they can sacrifice to get out of melee if they're actually caught in melee.

The only thing this could make them horde-y is if you count a "horde" of suits, which isn't really a horde. More of a Tau version of the Nidzilla army.

Joy! Rapture!

A T: 5 battle suit. I will go out and get a letter of consent from all my friends to allow FW in our friendly games! And after I get it notarized, matted and framed its ON!

That thing is great! Motivates me to build my other FW suits and get some of the FW hammer head turrets and finally polish up and finish off my Farsight army.
