How do you take wounds against a targets leadership??? Like when you use the Aeonstave

I think you mean the Abyssal Staff, it's strength 8, most units have ld 8 or 9, so it's 4s or 5s to wound.

Use their leadership value instead of their toughness value when consulting the 'to wound' chart.

Yup, similiarly if your staves strength is double the Ld value then you can instakill them, not sure there are many Ld4 troops mind, not even grots...
