I thought this months White dwarf Would answer all of my questions but it has not. In the 'Eavy Metal master class article on painting the wolf guard, the step by step for the power armor says the base coat is 1:1:1, Kommando Khaki, shadow grey & space wolves grey. Which is all fine and dandy however the lightning claw shown in the picture is not the same color as shown in any ofl the other pictures. It's basically a grayish tone. I'm looking for the more bluish grey color that all of the new models look.

Edit: today I purchased Vallejo model color: Grey Blue. It is a near exact mid tone to Shadow gray & Space Wolves grey. This looks to me to be the exact base color for the space wolves. I think GW doesn't want to advertise that they use a rival company's color! (hahaha, most likely not), but I think this color will work just fine for me.

I'm guessing this is closer to what you are looking for. I based with straight Shadow Grey and then applies a 2:1 mix of Space wolf Grey/Shadow Grey on top of that. The model with the power sword also had a third coat with slightly more Space wolf grey added (in a mixing tray) that lightened him up a touch.

On that note, Salamanders went from a metalic green to a flat green through various publications of fluff.

Very cool. I like the comparison you have to your old paint jobs. I'll have to do a test and see how it turns out. But is it just me or does all of the new pictures GW is putting out have a slight bit more of a blue hue? Maybe they are just using more space wolves gray in the mix? Did you see the white dwarf? Kommando Khaki in the mix even?

Ideally I would like to be able to paint and highlight with the least amount of paint mixing possible. I saw a Vallejo color that seemed almost right on today at the LFGS.

I haven't gotten the new WD yet. I think that you are correct about adding more SWG into the mix though especially if they did additional coats beyond what I did. I don't even own kommando khaki :-P. Oh, also, I forgot to mention that the models were spray based with chaos black primer. My rough highlights were one of codex grey with a second of spacewolf grey without any mixing, but I know mine are fairly rough.

It seems over the years wolves are getting more and more blue.

Thats why I now paint my wolves and call them "Pre-heresy".

They just look better.
