I am 30 years old. I have not played a game in some time but I definitely plan to soon.
I still collect and paint.
I have a good friend who was playing at 44 years old.
I always think to myself, how much longer do I have to play? Can I imagine being 50 years old playing Warhammer?
So my question is, does anyone know anyone who has played Warhammer into their 50s?

My games club has people in their 50s, 60s and 70s playing miniature games from WWII based games to Warhammer 40k. A lot of fathers are there and sometimes bring their kids to teach them how to play.
You are never too old to enjoy good company and have a good time, no matter what that good time is.

I often wonder this about computer games. I'm in the first generation to grow up with video games, I wodner if I will still be playing them when I'm 50, 60, 70, same with Warhammer. But i think unless you stop enjoying playing these things, you can keep going as long as you like.

Lol almost everyone in my gaming club is 30+. We only have a couple of people in their 20's and nobody in their teens.

I'm 38 next year, I took up the hobby about 6-7 years ago. I love everything about the hobby, 40k. I suspect that there are people like myself who have grown up seeing the evolution in home gaming. From the spectrum 48k and amstrad home computers to the xbox 360. I have grown up and matured along with the console industry. Obviously there are many like myself and we are not only breeding the next generation of nerds, but continuing to play games as we have always done, and I suspect will do for the rest of our lives. Playing games is just another form of entertainment. Obviously I have been talking about video games, but by extension I think wargaming is very similar in that it's just another form of gaming. However I personally find hobbying far more rewarding than video games. The pride of finishing a well painted mini is much more tangible than say completing a video game.
I get so much more enjoyment from all types of games than I do from say watching the TV that I just can't see me giving it up at any age. I also encourage anyone of any age to give our hobby a go. My 5 year old daughter now paints along with me and my son will too when he shows an interest. The wife however not so much :)
Short answer, if you enjoy something as much as we do, can you ever see yourself not having some time for 40k in your life 30 or more years down the road. Me neither.
As long as I can I will always be working hard and playing hard too :).

I am 38, I started when I was 18. I fully intend to keep playing as long as the games exist. I've played against grey beards in their 50's if not 60's. There is not really any such thing as too old. ( excepting grumpy old men who argue everything, but they are more a personality problem than age related)

I'm a veteran player, Orks and Tyranids are my favourite :)
The hobby is not cheap, but I love paint miniature, and play with my friends! There's no old or young in Warhammer 40k, there's only fun! Welcome to the forum! I suggest you something that is good if you want to start playing warhammer 40k. It's cheap and fun !:D

32 now, started with Heroquest, worked for GW three times, and showing no signs of stopping.
Damnedest thing too. The older you get, the less stigma people attach to the game.
I am kind of lucky though. I'm straight out the 2nd Ed era, when it was truly booming, and where I've stuck with it all this time, many of my former gaming buddies have dropped out, mostly due to work and family etc. But now, they're getting back into the hobby. Partially down to my awesome sales techniques, partially because they see me painting when the come round, dust off, and before you know it are hooked again.
The community it the key. I have never seen anything quite like it. It transcends sports. It goes beyond other hobby wargames, and the store is what makes it happen. Everyone in there (well, barring Mums and goons) are there for the same reason. Build. Paint. Convert. Play. Gibber. Froth. If a kid is just starting out, I'm yet to actually meet a gamer who won't be chuffed to help them find their feet (you read about a lot of people looking down on them. Yeah. Never actually seen it!). Every now and then, an old face, unknown to anyone else but myself due to staff changes and the general shifting community, will wander in. It's good to catch up. Most go off with something new, many come in with an old army to work out how to play in the current edition. We also have a local club. Not really my scene, as the chairman and I are two sides of the same coin, but where a good proportion don't want to game in store (stigma I guess) the club is positively thriving. Should really nip down some time I guess!
The stronger the community, the better the hobby.

We have a player who is in his late 40's early 50's who hangs out at our local shop, plays in the tourneys with his son. He is a really likeable guy, fun to chat with, and in general a good sport whether he wins or loses. It is really cool to have the veterans around, especially when they are of such positive demeanor.

There are some of us old farts around. Started playing AD&D in the late 70s and drifted into minis. 40K since v2 and no sign of ever stopping. :D
