View Full Version : 6th Ed "Not Happening This Year"
Hi all,
I was in a GW store in south-east England yesterday, and the black-shirt there said that whilst they have a managers' meeting scheduled for June, it was not a "product demonstration." He explained that when they have new products to launch, they're expected to sell them with demonstrations in order to be able explain the product fully. He gave the example of the new paint line being a product demonstration manager's meeting, wherein they tried out the new line and got hands-on.
He fully admitted that he knew very little such is GW policy - but he seemed skeptical that they'd do a major game release without allowing for a proper briefing on the changes to the product.
All that said, he did then say "of course, they could just be saying it's not a product demonstration meeting just to throw people off the scent."
So, there you have it. Not conclusive in any way, shape or form, but I thought I'd share the conversation I had with the chap. Personally, I'm beginning to wonder if 6th edition will ship in June - if it was to, then it'd already have been printed en masse, and someone in the supply chain would've posted/scanned the details within, or just acknowledged that the book is in production.

July not June and I think GW have as much admitted it is coming out this year, just not when. No GW black shirt is going to openly admit in store that it's not worth buying two of the products on the selves, 5th edition book and box set.
This time 4 year ago I was watching a countdown to 5th edition clock on the Games Workshop website. I do find the information black out quite annoying.

In fact I think the official line from GW was. 2012 after the Olympics. That could mean post July 27th or post August? GW have been known to change their mind. December is still in 2012 and after the Olympics. If the 5th edition book continues to sell well they may delay. I counted 3 rule books in my local GW the other day.
I'd quite like time for a few more 5th Edition Games before the switch happens. Although I do get fed up of all the drip feeding of rumours and stuff. I'm looking forward to just getting on with learning the new rules happy that I have 4 years or more not to worry about what will change next. If GW said 6th Edition won't come out this year I wouldn't be too upset. I'd just like them to say something.
The Design Studio open day is the 14th July. Thone of skulls is the 21st. The tables at Warhammer world are limited after this till the end of the school holidays. I'd say it will hit at some point over the school holidays. I think 5th Edition was released on the 12th July just in time for the school holidays.

Excepting the title, there is nothing in his post that runs counter your rumor.

Well it is (did you hear that I said "it is worth it").
BUT if you bought one now, as your way of starting 40k and 6th came out a month later, you'd be pretty peeved. Unless you wanted some angry marines, terminator ready to take a dump and a dreadnought with vertically challenged exhausts and a lack of weapon options. You could have got a battle force full of nice multi part models for the army you wanted instead.
Now if you collect Orks it's a different story. In fact I've been thinking about getting another one, while a still can.
Eldargal, you seem to state that with some confidence. Is there a good reason for your certainty or are you just working off the "there are no rumours to contradict these rumours, so it much be true" principle?
This weekend, (other than the large stock of black reach and 40k rules books) I did notice my GW was busy working on a new game board and had converted their terrain from ruins to solid buildings. Something rumoured to change in 6th; In that you can buy them.

"...black-shirt there said...."
I stopped right after that. Honestly really? You're gonna listen to a black shirt? Here's a true story for ya, 2 months before finecast came out and the rumormongers where talking bout the "shift" to resin i went up to my local black shirt and said "Oh did you hear the rumors bout the shift to resin? He stated "GW isn't doing resin i was just at GW headquarters and they have nothing in resin nor are they going to discontinue making in metal." He was wrong. Then he was fired for some random thing.
Before that when the rumors of CSM where floating around and people were crying out "brokenz!! sky falling if controlling enemies movement is true!! (lash whip)" (yes there was a time when people cried out that CSM was broken har har) Local black shirt stated "There is no such thing, GW would never allow such an ability. It's too stupid and would upset the local tournament scene." He was mildly correct, well more towards the latter, as lash whipping DP's forced people into Rhinos more which shifted everyone into more tank battles. But he was wrong on the first part.
Don't even get me started on what they said about 'nids.
TL;DR?
Black shirts know as much as us, even then i personally believe they know less, based on my experience of course.

No, she's working off the principle that the 6th ed rumors come from reliable sources, and store employees don't actually know much more than we do. The guy mentioned was merely skeptical, there's no indication that he actually knew anything about when 6th ed came out.

4 weeks before the new paints were released I was in the Warhammer World store and stocked up on paints, when asked why I mentioned the new paint release rumours. The guy serving said that GW had no intent of changing its paints or releasing more.
Do I listen to the in store staff about future releases - no.

The blackshirt I talked to at the independent store; and this was a while ago told me that he had no information about any upcoming releases including Tau. I guess based on that he would be a better person to talk to. That suggested he is a more modest person to deal with and actually has his head screwed on straight.

I remember the release of 3rd edition, back when I worked as a GW manager. We all (store managers) attended a national meeting. There was no news upfront about the agenda of the meeting, despite a vague timetable - intro, lunch, etc..
When we all sat down, it didn't take long to notice a table on the far side of the hall, covered in a mass of plastic sprues and books. It was made quite clear that we were not to touch or ask about it until the relevant section of the meeting. That section, mid afternoon, turned into a 3rd edition presentation. It wasn't until the very end of the meeting that we were allowed to have at the plastics.. which you can imagine was pretty much about as deadly a nerd-rush as you can get. ;)

Actually, I'm starting to hear from a few little birds that 6th edition may not be coming as soon as we've been lead to believe.
I'll be the first to admit I shot these little tidbits down as soon as I first heard them. I too believe that we're going to see 6th edition stuff go on advance order in June.
But still, the birds can't seem to agree on a song these days...
