I played a game of Necromunda the other day, and it was a lot of fun, so I decided I'd like to build an actual gang instead of just proxying with my normal stuff. However looking at the range, they are all metal and butt-ugly, so using the official models is right out.

I want to build a gang for house Van Saar. Here's what the offical models look like:

I like the general idea, but the models are so old I can't stand them. I want to convert something in plastic that keeps the same feel.

So the idea I had was to take Eldar Gaurdians for the basic body armour, and then add imperial weapons, bitz, heads, and maybe some arms from Cadians and SM scouts. The problem is nobody around here plays Eldar, so I've never been able to get a hold of a guardian and see how it compares to a cadian or scout. My fear is the Cadians will be much to chunky to be able to swap head and arms.

So, would a conversion mixing Eldar Gaurdians and Cadians be able to work?
Are the figures around the same scale or are they different?
If Gaurdians wouldn't work, would Dire Avengers?
Any other suggestions for how I could get something like this?

Awe damn. I think that'll look really good.

Howdy.

While I cannot disagree more with your views on Necromunda figures (although some are freaking horrible...the Van Saar's certainly aren't), I can certainly get behind your want for conversion work. There is a Necromunda section in this forum...

As far as using Guardians or some such as a basis...The idea is good, but having recently started painting some Eldar I would say they are a tad thin and wiry and it might look a little weird, especially when teamed with the comparatively stocky Cadian arms and alike.

Unfortunately, and we think about this a lot, there really aren;t that many Van Saar lookylikeys, so I would look outside the GW range. where everything is made of metal.

I dont see why not, but I would have to have both sets to hand to give a definative answer. If the scales match it would be quite cool.

That's what I was afraid of. Do you think just the cadian heads would work? What I really want is human heads on the Guardians, and I can just do weapon swaps and arm repositions. Do you know, are Dire Avengers an stockier than Gaurdians? They're plastic too so they might work.

I've ben googling for about an hour now, and apparently there are no pictures on the internet of an eldar standing next to a gaurdsman. I want to get a picture so I can see for mself, but my google-fu is weak. If anybody owns the models or can find a picture online I'd be most appreciative :)
