Hello fellow Bolsers!

I thought I would take the plunge today and post photos of my minis.

Yesterday was the local Throne of Skulls qualifications and my Deathwing got me 9th place out of around 30.

To do them justice I thought I would start of the posts with them.

I have done my best with the paint job although there is always room for improvement. All feedback (+ and -) welcome and any tips or suggestions even more so! ^^

Special mention for the TH/SS who alone stood against a reclusiarc, 10 squad of assault marines + sanguinary priest and survived (after 3 rounds of combat) and won whilst the chaplain and rest of the squad all decided to curl up and die!

Standard bearer.

Based heavily on the Terminator Chaplain with the skull painted silver having been inspired by a DA character in one of the books who was said to have been terribly injured by xenos acid and the apothicaries grafted metal to his skull.

As he's always the first to die in combat, I've decided that it is because he is only a few days away from retirement...hence the beard and eye patch.

Final squad in the Deathwing army I took to TOS yesterday is the Tank busters

http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t456/Musical-Fool/IMG_1735.jpg

The strategy behind this squad is that they deep-strike on the 1st turn behind the enemy line, normally sandwiched between the table edge and a valuable vehicle which means they have to hit on their deepstrike. Luckily they seldom deviate from the plan.
The second TH/SS is the sergeant and he has survived entire parties on his own from the 2nd turn onwards and regularly holds his own against most opponents.

My last project was a Lamenters army which I have started but the finishing touches need doing.

I have however more or less finished one of the Furioso dreads

This has got to be one of the most enjoyable models to put together and more to the point, to paint.

The best thing was the banner and it was great to paint the Nid. so much so infact that I have decided to paint a Kraken fleet of my own, more of that later.

Everything looks great. The only gripe I have is that I don't like the skin tone you chose, unless you were going for the sun burn look.

As for the skin, I agree and have tried multiple methods of lightening the skin.
What I use is snakebite leather, elf flesh (This is an old pot of paint and I think this is the name), a wash of flesh wash (again an old pot and I think the origins of my skin troubles) then a bleached bone highlight.

Definately need to go back and redo the skin though!

Flesh wash is quite strong. I'd either add mix in a little water to lighten the effect or switch to some of the new citadel shades (which are more viscous, and give you a little more of a gradual shading)

Then just highlight the nose and raised portions of the face with a small brush and watered down elf flesh.

There's some definite improvement as we move through these pictures.
The assault cannon terminator's bionic eye is nicely done as is the weathering on the Tyranid.
Keep it up!

Yeah, indeed, your painting style is tightening up steadily.
A good easy trick to crank it up a notch is thinned inks. Use a little palette, tiny and shallow dish or pot, and add water to about a third to half of the amount of ink. You'll see it's still great for outlining details and it won't tone down the raised areas that much.

Hmm, I shall give thses tips a go. I think that I have to learn to be more patient with the painting and go for multiple thin layers instead of wanting to finish quicker.

In any case, thanks for the kind remarks!
