i am planning on entering both the 40k and fantasy throne of skulls over the next 12 months and have suddenly come up with a (what i reason to be) important question that i am hoping the hobby community can help me with. ToS is an official GW tournament, and i am using a completely official GW army however a lot of my models are on sculpted resin bases from other companies (all the correct size though). will this cause me problems at the ToS or will it be allowed?

Officially I think its frowned upon, however my experience of Throne of Skulls is that if you dont mention it, they won't ask.

Non GW models are frowned on and outright banned in some i'm sure
I'm sure after market bases aren't though. After all GW doesn't sell scenic bases (cept for that one dreadnaught one) so its not hurting them. All else fails say they were sculpted by you

I imagine that this will be the case, historically a "converted" model had to be at least 75% GW parts. The exception being for models with rules and no official models. As DrLove says GW only sells flat slotabases so you aren't using a 3rd party version of their products and it would take a very keen eye to tell the difference between someone's green stuff created bases that they've used for casting their own bases and a 3rd party one.

just say you made them yourself. Unless they are really well recognised bases, a lot of the resin ones you can buy are quite generic. So if someone asks just say you made them :)

I've been to a few UK TOS now and seen several armies with dientifiable thrid party bases (scibor I think). Never seen any complaints and someone won best army award with them a couple of years back.

I don't think GW cares about your third party bases. They just want to stop people from coming in with a Mantic fantasy army.

Precisely, as DrLove stated third party miniatures are completely banned in theory, but bases won't give you problems.

You can get away with a few bits, but GW staff are catching up fast when it comes 3rd party bits and identifying them.
Also officially if you have 3rd party parts from a company they are or had legal action against (such as Chapterhouse) you cannot under any circumstances and will be asked to remove them.
This happened at the last 40k ToS at WHW when a guy used some legs bits for a Pre Heresy Thousand Sons army.
From my experience the staff won't give a monkeys on bases, but other parts are dicey - more so if you play in the UK, doubly so if you plan on going to a WHW event.

My god... I just read that thread, and I was laughing until I realized they were being serious. You can't use third party bits in a CONVERSION!?
You can't use a different model from the GW range if there's a mini available (The ex he gave was painting normal Boyz and using them as Commandoz or something, which they specifically ban)?
My god. I'd never play there. You can't even use third party minis when GW doesn't make one, and you HAVE to use GW stuff ("Regardless of your personal feelings of aesthetics")...
I'm so glad I live near a store that allows just about anything, as long as it's painted.

Well there is a compromise on page 6 of that thread.
Thing is this came all after the start of proceedings vs Chapterhouse. If they (CH) had done the smart thing and use generic Sci Fi terms like all the other 3rd party bits makers then we would all be ok. But no they had to use IP/Copyrighted names and words and ruined the hobby more than people think.

a good thing to see that stuff didnt change much . Way back when 3ed just starteed and the orc codex just became legal , me and my friend visited UK . he got DQed because his 2ed orcs were armed with bolters and not shootas. Good times .
