Yes, once again my brain has been coming up with daft ideas. This time though I can at least blame a couple of my friends including our very own DrLove42. On with the meat and 'taters of my 'plan';
So you think you are a pretty hot 40k gamer? You win all the local tournies, even place at national GTs? So much so, you don't play pick up games without warning your opponant that your army has been registered as a deadly weapon? OK, so I might be taking this too far...
You are the Master of your army, your list and your style of play. But what about when using a list that you haven't honed? What about using other armies?
At the close of a recent tournament, a mutual friend, DrLove and I were wondering how we would fair using each others lists. This got my synapses firing and came up with a plan to test which of us is truely the best player.
(Note; at all the tournaments we have attended together so far, I have always placed lowest, DrLove is usually in the middle and the other guy usually places somewhere around the top 5, so I think the actual result is a foregone conclusion)
The basic premise would be that we would all write a list for one of our armies, then play against both of the other players, both using the army lists they didn't write using the army lists we didn't write. That sounds a little complicated, so I'll show you in a table/list of games.
So Player 1 writes List A. Player 2 writes List B and Player 3 writes List C;
-----3A---3B---2C---2A
1B--II----XX---II-----II
1C--II----II----XX----II
2A--XX---II
2C--II----II
So II is a game, and XX are games that can't happen because both players would need to be using the same list. The suggested game schedule would be;
Day 1
1B v 2C
LUNCH
2C v 3A
3A v 1B
Day 2
2A v 3B
LUNCH
3B v 1C
1C v 2A
Day 3
3A v 1C
LUNCH
1B v 2A
2C v 3B
Scoring is fairly normal, except that you also get points for when your army wins a game, to stop people writing weak lists that cannot compete.
4 Points for a win
3 Points for a 'home' win against your own army
2 Points for a draw
1 Point when your army wins a game
0 Points when you lose (of course you'll still get a point when you lose against your own list)
What do you guys think? This could be expanded for more players, but the number of games increases exponentially with each one added. How do you think you would manage in such a competition?
