So I've only been into 40k for about 3 or 4 years and I look for stuff on ebay and I always see "Armorcast" models. and I'm curious; what's the history behind Armorcast

My understanding is that Armourcast is another modelling company that makes items that many players use alongside GW offical models.

Never used them myself

I was under the impression that Armour Cast USED to make gw stuff, but forgeworld does that now...

Armorcast/Epicast is a company GW used to license out to make their larger vehicles and special rules back in 2nd edition, in the 90's.

Then for whatever reason, probably in GW's effort to squeeze out anything non GW from their warhammer products, including online sales and most independent stores, GW released Armorcast from their contract and created their own specialist company called Forgeworld.

Just think of Armourcast as the 1990's Forgeworld and you won't go wrong.

Armorcast models from back in the day are perfectly acceptable in 40k today if you are wondering.

Now becareful though, because many people on eBay just create their own casts and make Armorcast copies.

I would go to Bartertown.com to get your Armorcast fix instead of eBay, since the gentleman who owns Armorcast uses that forum and the Armorcast people sell there are mainly legit.

That's due more to the old GW aesthetic than the talent of the Armorcast crew....

And a lot of the models by GW weren't that great looking, either. 15-20 years is a long time for a sculpt. Nowadays armorcast does terrain, bases and such.

Armorcast and Epicast are totally separate entities. I prefer the aesthetic of the current armorcast stuff, especially the steam creations.

Personally, I've always had a certain fondness for the old Armorcast Tyranids. They're a touch cartoonish, but they also remind me of a time when 40K was a lot more about having fun than...

Well, than people ranting on the internet about "competitive builds" and RAW...

Don't worry Lord Anubis. There are still plenty of people who enjoy playing for fun rather than pummelling their opponent with a competative build or optimum list. They're not wrong in thinking this way, they just enjoy a different aspect of the hobby. It is just more difficult find people like you and I on the net.
