Dwarven Forge (http://www.dwarvenforge.com/) produce a range of modular dungeon, cavern and medieval building kits that can be used to put together rather impressive structures for DnD games, RPGs or tabletop games. All in 25-28mm scale, not cheap, but nice and useful. All pre-painted as far as I know, which adds to the cost but in this case it is worth it, in my opinion.

There are many limited edition sets which are gorgeous but I can't preview without having like 8 posts, so check the website out thoroughly if you are at all interested.

For example you could use the Dungeon Sets to produce a fully modular Warhammer Quest board:

Again you could use the Medieval Set for Warhammer Quest and RPGs etc, or a large building for Warhammer:

My brothers have used these to have a cavern system with a removeable roof/hill so you can play WFB on the outside and have characters and skirmishers/small regiments go into the inside for ab objective.

One of my buddies has owned a set of the Dwarven Forge dungeon tiles for yonks. They're pretty interesting, but they can be a pain and a half to set up - sometimes you want to do room shapes that the pieces just don't allow. Still - much more immersive to play on than a vinyl mat with wet-erase marker on it.

As cool as that stuff is, MY GOD is it expensive

Yep, as with all modular kits you can't be as creative as if you made it yourself. The advantage is, of course, the amount of time saved. Not to mention the fact that not everyone has the skills to produce such quality scenery anyway.:)

Curse your brothers, they have all the cool toys.

At least they don't have a monopoly on cool sisters as well! :D

No sir, I don't like it.
The level of detail is nice, lovely in some cases, but the fact that even the water breaks up into squares would pull me out of any immersion.

Scifi stuff is nice, but the edges aren't as crisp as I'd like.(this could be the paint)

I think the tavern is very well done and is the ideal environment for what they are producing- a regular environment that lends itself to tiles but not "machined" regular, that would require greater precision or even seamless-ness.

Yes I have to admit the water squares annoy me too. We tend not to use them except as edge pieces in WHQ/DND/Whatever.

It's an abstraction for D&D. It makes it SO much easier to note where the hell you are. Trust me when I say that non-abstraction of waterlines makes people live or die when fighting something with lightning

It's like every hill being neatly terraved for 20mm bases though, in my opinion. Makes sense from a practical perspective, really hits the suspension of disbelief.

Still love Dwarven Forge, but I do understand the issue with the water pieces.

Also, are you referring to the 5x5 squares of water or watever? That's to fill in large lagoons, the coastlines are all pretty well done, imo.

For my part i use alot of monsters in my Warhammer games, a monster nest like that is perfect. as are the caverns i noticed. i may just have to get some of them to toy around with.

I've got those two SF sets. Every time I think of adding more to what I have and go to their site, they're out of stock and an unknown time until restock (I've emailed).
I'm thinking of just getting some Hirstarts moulds and doing some resin casts of my own to add to them. It'll cost about the same and take less time.
