has anyone used the new base paints and are they any better than the old foundation paints?

Depends how you define better. I have started using them with a new Dark Eldar army, purely to test the new range (also as part of my job as an independant).

So far I'm lovin' it, as they say at Mickey D's. The new base colours work just as well as the old foundation paints, and are much smoother, requiring less watering down (if any at all). Coverage and pigmentation is good.

I lurve the texture paints. Makes basing and batch painting a pleasure now, instead of a chore.

In my professional opinion, GW have raised the bar again. The whole point of the new system, so far as I can determine, is to give all levels of painter - from beginner to expert - all the colours and techniques needed to create armies that look great on the table, and are efficiently painted in a reasonable time frame. Having highlight options already available for layer colours is sweet. Doesn't take anything away from the Golden Daemon standard painter, of course, you can still mix like a monkey if you want to. :)

from my limited experiance they are slightly thinner(but not as thin as vallejow) , the coulors are a bit brighter and the bottles are better.

how is the cermite white base color. does it do a good job of even color unlike the old skull white?

Ceramite White is great, solid coverage in two coats over chaos black easily.

The gold base (Balthasar Gold) makes painting gold 100 times easier! 1 layer, goes on smoothly, then highlight as you wish, that easy! So for me that's a real plus.
