So, I'm the rare soul who happens to think the FW Brass Scorpion is right ugly, so I set forth to craft my own using a defiler kit I had never quite got around to finishing and some extra legs that I picked up on the cheap from ebay.

This is one of my first attempts at large scale conversion, so any tips or ideas are appreciated. I still need to do some sanding, and want to add some more cabling runs and some exhaust stacks. The exhaust will just be plasticard tubes with chaos vehicle heads on them, but for the cabling runs I'm at a bit of a loss for what to use that is flexible enough, a proper gauge, and looks like the cabling everywhere else in 40k models.

Nice work. As for tips, it's a "super-heavy" with structure points, so bigger is better at conveying that. Here's some of the work I did a few years ago. GW had a builder's guide on their website for the first 6 months of 2008 and one of the builds featured was based on my work. Here's a couple sites that have the builder's guide in archive:

Here a pic of another I built:

I did one of these a several years ago, I'm still happy with how it came out. I also agree with Brass Scorprion that bigger is better..

I took 2 Defiler bodies and put them together to increase mass.
