Question for everyone. When running Genestealers with just rending claws.....is it legit to still have a set of Talons on them??

I have a bunch of GS I was using in 4th edition with Talons and Rending claws....only reason I'm asking. I'm just curious for tournament reasons is all. If I don't have to chop off arms and mod the stealers, I don't want to do that cuz it will be very tedious and time consuming....

Thanks gang

I dunno about tournaments - but I wouldn't mind. It's easy to remember because the upgrade is a unit-wide thing, so there aren't any exceptions to watch out for and it's easy to keep track of, and their actual load-out is 'worse' than what's modeled.

Some people might take except to it though.

I find most people forgiving when it comes to the minor upgrades like that, just as long as you tell them ahead of time.

Best thing is to check with the TO. Personnally I wouldn't have a problem, so long as you told me beforehand and I was able to distinguish between the brood that had the upgrades and one that didn't if you had them both in the same list.

What it is...I have a bunch of old stealers that have a set of rending claws and a set of talons and they all do have Toxin sacs. I just want to make sure that they are cool with just knowing they are all rending and have toxin and no talons.......

I can make them legit...I'm just going to hate to cut off all these arms and reglue them back on with rending only ya know?

for playing with friends you should be fine.
But if you are planning to make them part of your Tournament list I would model them appropriately. It will save you trouble in the long run. And it is better to start remodeling them now while you have time, than to wait until the week before and be rushed.

First off, if you can afford the extra points for the talons, pay for them, and avoid the whole conflict :D

That being said, most people, including myself, wouldn't mind, and some might not even notice. The problem is that at a tournament, especially at a big tourney, your going to run into that one guy in one of your rounds who is a hater. Technically, you are breaking the WYSIWYG rule. If the guy makes a stink, and says it confuses him, the TO may have to make you pull the unit from the table.

Is it a big deal: no
Are most players going to care: no
Are you going to run into the one jackass who is already having a bad day, and who is out to make sure you have one too: yeah, cause the universe works like that

So again, don't rip up the pretty models, pay the points, and don't give a jackass a reason to ruin your day.

Ya know, it is just one squad......and it's 2 pts per model...I can add to the bigger unit....which then would be Rending plus rerolls of 1 on top of poison on 4+........ouch

I they are all the same, it really shouldn't matter, but if you had one unit with redning claws and another unit with talons and all the models in both units were identical, then it could get confusing. Just having different coloured bases would be enough for most opponants though.

For what you are suggesting, I really doubt most people would even notice. But as others have pointed out, you could come up against that -*Censored by His most Holy Inquisition*- of a player who might call you out on it. If you have discussed it with the TO beforehand though, you'd probably get away with it without problem.

No...I'd have the ones with Rending and Talon in one group and just call them mas rending...all my other stealers either have both sets of Rending claws or are not assembled yet. It will be easy to pick out what unit is which
