I used to have a WD subscription

I don't now

To those who still have one how are they at delivery times now? Is it still 4 days after launch as a minimum or is it much better these days

I feel the content of the magazine has improved and still buy all the issues, just cancelled it because I was fed up of not getting it till the week after. Do they deliver better now

As a side note, I enjoy the death world expansion and the civil war expansion. Want something civil war based for 40k....not that I know anyone who plays any of my armies

As we are both in the UK I would imagine that it would get to you at the same time as it does for me,
The last 5-6 mags have actully managed to get to my house on the release date
It took several months (after the new only release info a week before thingy coming in ) for it to stabalise at a decent date but it does now seem to always turn up on time for me

I can't buy it in peace without them pushing the subscription,
this month was the first they claimed it now arrives on time....
still not early though like it used to be is it?

I know, but there aren't that many advantages to the subscription anymore, the price saving is negligible, and it ties you in for 12 months...
Back in the day you'd get a £20 gift voucher and a fair saving...

Mine have been arriving on the Saturday or Monday so far this year so better than it was.

My main concern lately has been the poor battle report content. Last month nothing, this month a late and short 1,000 point battle report of Nids vs Wolves. Some good painting pull outs though.

Ever since the December issue, every single month as been at my house on the Saturday it is released. They have ditched the ridiculous 'post it out on release day' since it lead to people cancelling subscriptions, rather than an increase of in-store sales. Not they officially announced this of course. So if you are happy with the content, I'd get one again as delivery times seem back to normal.

Dont have to take it out as an entire year - DD it then you are only committed to 3 month blocks I think

But what I meant was that there used to be real incentives to subscribe, now it's all a bit meh

Yep, my brothers and I used to have a subscrition each (that is seven subscriptions to put it in perspective) now we share the one and sometimes buy extra issues.

I thought about resubbing as there are some places that offer it at 35% discount from their site, however the Tyranids/Space Wolf issue really let me down. All those minis released and not even a battle between the two? Lame.

I thnik I have bought 2 issues since my subscription ran out. I've flicked through all the rest since, but haven't really been interested in buying any (though I will probably pick up the current issue when I head in to town tomorrow... need something to read while giving blood). I've still got issues from 10 years ago that I occasionally pick up and read because the articles were interesting, the paint guides informative (and still relevent!) and the battle reports entertaining. I cannot believe in 10 years I will still be doing the same with the more recent issues. The lack of quality content over the last 2 or so has made me happy I didn't retake a subscription, and stopping just before the change from getting it a week early really amused me :P

GW really needs to up the quality of WD, though it is heading in the right direction. For me to take out a subscription again, I'd need a garauntee that I will get it on time and a better discount than they are currently offering. Tempting me with a miniature I can't really use in games doesn't really do it for me. And I've got more than a few collectors/display miniatures.

Yeah... I can go down to the FLGS and get White Dwarf a day or two early and enjoy a nice 25% discount on the cover price. Or a subscription that means the magazine arrives 2-3 days after the release date, with no discount, and no benefit (coupon, special deal, nadda). You can get a Special Edition White Dwarf miniature... if you pay for him. And he has no rules/can't be used in any games, so... :D

Purchase WD for the eye candy, and the inspiration to paint after looking at all the fantastic paint jobs. The actual content... I gave up caring about battle reports a long time ago (inane lists, wrong rules, etc. ). Hobby content comes and goes, but I really like those articles. Anymore, the only way to get any reliable news/view of new stuff is to buy WD.

White Dwarf is getting better. It's moving away from a Games Workshop Miniatures catalog to a hobby/gaming magazine again.

If you're wanting your subscription on time, you can always do what I do, just have your subscription sent to your local GW store. It arrives on the day of, and when it doesn't the manager just let's me take one off the shelf, since he'll be getting mine soon to replace the one he gave me. Works out pretty well!

Generally, thanks to the mailing policy started last spring I don't get my White Dwarf in the mail till about 7-10 days after release in GW stores. By the time I get my copy the previews are old news. For the first time in about 20 years I'm planning to let my subscription lapse when it ends this year. Too expensive, no special subscription offers like they used to have, low hobby content and late mailing has made me finally decide to let WD go after all these years. It's a shame, and I'll miss it, but it's an idea whose time has come. GW made a lot of negative changes last May and WD mailing policy was one of them. I'm voting with my dollars by suddenly spending a lot less of them with GW.

I have never subscribed to White Dwarf but loved and occasionally bought issues from 50 onwards (my friend had the first 50 and I would read them all the time) I was originally very disappointed when the went entirely in house back around issue 100 or so. and gave up buying for quite a long time (while my ex wife still played Warhammer at the time I gave it up for other things)

My son asked me, when he was twelve to buy Warhammer for him. I picked it up again as well as bought White Dwarf. Surprisingly enough what made me stop the next time was the move to a Canadian Magazine it didn't impress me and I found myself missing UK studio content. (I loved WD when Fat Bloke was the editor!!)

I have recently been buying it again, since the Sister's quasi codex but will skip issues if there is nothing that interests me.

have never given a serious thought to subscribing since I can usually buy it the day before UK release in my FLGS
