So I'm doing the tumblr thing minding my own business when I see:

http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m0wbyphdzL1rneqlno1_500.jpg

I've heard nothing of this before. Was I asleep? Anyone have any knowledge of this? It's not on Fantasy Flight's site. The box implies it's a Talisman variant.

Talisman was a board game I wasted many hours playing whilst in my university days in the late 80s, it was re-released a few years ago by GW (via fantasy flight I believe)

Never played Talisman, what is it like?

It's a nice Beer and Pretzel game, typical board game: role dices, move Warhammer Fantasy inspired figurines. Easy rules, finish games in an 2 to 4 hours. It was created in the days where Games Workshop, was a game developpement workshop and not a profit obsessif company...

Exciting times.

Thanks for posting; I'd hadn't seen this anywhere yet.

I do love me some board games. Easier to convince people to play too, as there is no financial outlay on their part (if you already own the game).

GW and it's associates are pumping out some really decent stuff as 'periphery' to their main lines, as much as i frequently rant and say "NOT ONE MORE CENT" stuff like this is announced and my wallet cries again

When they say busts do they mean that the minis are just heads? Or is this some wacky British term that I'm not aware of?

eldargal

Well a bust is the head and shoulders and sometimes a bit more of the torso. It is odd because it doesn't fit with the existing Talisman that has miniatures.

Cant wait for this! Even if the minis are just busts it wont take much to replace them with proper figs.

bah busts, I will paint up my own SoB and inquisitor models for this game!

As someone who has never played talisman I have to ask, is it anything like heroquest or descent? Meaning do random monsters generate and is their an evil "overlord" type player?

AWESOME! My kids and I play Talisman, and have been chomping at the bit to see a 40K themed release!

If you have not played talisman or it's expansions then you are missing out on a great night with friends. Great concept, rules, minis, and board.

Because I'm apparently 6 years old, I chuckled at the idea of "SoB busts"

Speaking of, I wonder if they're going with the Bust-style to avoid any issues with making a plastic Sister model that GW might take exception to? either way, as many have said, it'd be easy enough to swap out normal minis for these.

Even ol' Generic Captain! Well, for me at least, since I magnetized his arms so I could, in theory, go with the LC/PP.

I just hope it uses the same rule system as Talisman, rather than needing a Talisman set to play.

I don't think I could loot my game pieces to use for any of my armies... especially since these board games become so limited after their release.

Spoken as someone who has obviously never played Talisman. If played properly (i.e. everyone gets dealt a random character to play), it's never the same game twice. Rolling for movement and a big stack of adventure cards means you can't predict what will happen from turn to turn. It's one of the reasons why Talisman has endured for so long, where many other games have faded away.

BEER!

Best played near a bar. Need a drink? Beat another player up (in game!) and then demand a pint instead of the traditional gold, object or a life

Those were the days:D

Hopefully different enough from Talisman to be a new game, rather than just a new paint job, but similar enough to be just as good fun. It being from FFG shows a good start.

I had a 3rd edition Talisman with all the expaansions. My firneds and I would play it for hours. That Dragon's tower was a pain. Eventually I sold it on ebay for $550.00 :)

FFG continue to out-Games Workshop Games Workshop! This sounds quite fun and I could see it working well with 40k's Science-Fantasy setting. May actually get this one if it's not too expensive (for me).

I will likely get a copy once I can, just means buying a lot of more sleeves. I would like more game organizers for games like this.

played talisman 20 odd years ago - got me a solid baby sitting job as the two boys I used to sit for loved it- of course I spent half the cash on Talisman expansions, but I think I came out ahead.

Talisman was great. But curently it is a little old stile I presume (thought I did not play later edition done by FFG)
I hope thet this 40K wersion will be something more stand alone and not the Talisman in space which will be lame if anybody asks me.
I'am counting on FFG as they are doing great games and I hope that it will be much more then talisman like.
