Hrm possibility of a free army eh? *unlurk mode* xP Cleaver scheme there BoLS!
My main army is Tyranids, and I have an Ork and Daemon army on the side. Been in the hobby for about 4 years. Currently I have been in a Daemon mood hobby wise, but those new Tyranid models has a gribbly mojo returning. Don't want to bomb everyone with a crap load of pictures, so I will just show my current project atm.
Insert giant copy paste blogging of Soulgrinder progress. From lurking, I noticed a picture posting limit, so these will be linkified.
---------
Feb 3, 2012
I have always wanted a Soulgrinder. They were having a 20% off sale on models so I caved in and got one lol. This one may take awhile, because of my crazy "battle damage" idea. Been working on this off and on all week, but now it's presentable.
Here is what it looks like all together. I decided to have the harvester gun on its own arm. I just didnt like the way it looked with the "sword or claw" hand options. I wanted my grinder to look unique too, so I opted for the 2 crushy claws and a gun arm.
http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/4366/soulgrinderwip1.jpg
Then here it is being disassembled. I really didnt want to mess with those anoying legs, so I am going to make a smoke ball for "immobilized". I pull its arms off for what weapons get destroyed (2 arms would go off for the CCW+Gun combo since they count as one weapon). For a wrecked result, the torso just pops off. I will make a bloody spine with flesh/wires hanging on it to stick on in place. The arms will also have magnetic battle damaged bits that pop on to hide the magnets (I gotta do this to my Deff Dread too!).
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/2446/soulgrinderwip2.jpg
The wound sockets are still very WIP.
For the maw cannon, I was thinking to make a magnetic effect I can stick in for weapon profiles. For weapon destroyed, could make some gross bloody saliva dripping down or something. I also added some extra horns to its head
http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/5136/soulgrinderwip6.jpg
With the arms, I am adding some detail into them, which also reinforces the bits together. The contact areas for gluing are small... so I am worried these "arm shields" could get damaged.

With the harvester gun, I used some old paint brush protectors for extra gun barrels. I was thinking of putting one of the chaos spawn mouth things over the one barrel.
http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/5496/soulgrinderwip5.jpg
And here is some other details. Added some extra tubes on the back. These are from a robot figure that I ripped apart lol. For the magnetic areas, I have to do some overlapping detail with greenstuff, so there isn't an anoying gap that would drive me nuts lol. Still have to do this with the arms and the shoulders. I didnt like the back pipes either, so I thought the daemon prince ones would look cool. I moved the normal back pipes onto the butt end.
http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/5561/soulgrinderwip3.jpg
Then when I get all this crazy work done, this thing is going to be bloody anoying to paint! :<
Feb 21, 2012
More progress on the grinder. Painting this thing is down right tedious lol. The scheme I came up with is looking good so far. With all the bloody stuff around the areas were flesh and metal merge, I figured the fusion of daemon and machine would not be as clean as the box art shows lol.
http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/1492/sgwip1.jpg
With the magnetic battle damaged stumps, I am a bit stuck on them. Here is the one, but I want some flesh hanging off it and I dunno how I would pull that off. Lower photo shows a bit more of the unstable flesh/metal melding.

I made a tongue like thing out of greenstuff, have to paint it up looking like energy. I might have to insert more wire into said tongue so the magnet grabs it better. Also added a huge bolt sticking out of the one shoulder, to mirror the pole to gear arm attachment of the other side.
http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/687/sgwip2.jpg

OMG this took forever to paint lol. Warning, giant photo is giant, you will have to not be lazy and click the link because of the width haha. Now I gotta work on the battle damage parts.

With Greenstuff skills like that, I shudder to think what you could do with the Cronos/Talos kit...

Haha aww. I tend to be stupid shy at times. I was going to join even before the "free army bait scheme" but kept chickening out. I know I'm weird xP
As for that Talos kit, I WANT to make a Daemon Prince out of it, but nothing has hit me yet inspiration wise.

Here is where I am sad that GW discontinued the inks. I use red ink for the bloody bits, which blends the flesh into the metal pretty good. To emulate that, I think you need to use a mix of blood red and red gore, and then if you want it glossy, use that err ard coat varnish I think its called lol.
The flesh is bleached bone base. Then a gryphonne sepia wash. Then a bleeched bone/skull white mix for the highlighting.

Guess I will tell the tale of one of my more frustrating conversions.
Somedays out of the blue, a killer conversion idea will strike your brain. Happens to me quite alot, and it can be maddening haha! The conversion I am going to feature here is my count as Skulltaker on Chariot and its also an excuse to make a 2 headed Juggernaut. Little did I know it was going to be a bit of a headache! Tyranid sculpting is down my ally, but when it comes to metal, let the frustration begin! Here is the 2 headed Juggernaut in progress:
http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/4227/juggywip1.jpg
The hind end was a perfect merge, but the upper area has some issues. I need to bulk out the front legs, they are out of proportion. I also need to raise the back into that hump Juggers have. I have the bulldog look I am going for, yet it also looks like a turtle! Oh the curse of the perfectionist, how I hate thee! When the perfectonist kicks in, it's always good to take a break to let your mind refresh. If you don't, you may destroy your project!
The Jugger may be giving me a headache, but the rider is turning out nice. The loin cloth from the Plastic Daemon Prince kit makes a very nice cape! I also used the spare Bloodcrusher necklace to add a Khorne touch. The shoulder armour is made out of a Tyranid carapace bit with some green stuffed in detail. I might mirror it on the other side. Skulls on chains are plenty in the Bloodcrusher kit, so I have those hanging off his cape too. The head I wished I used a forehead with a rune in it. Also used the big fancy sword. That sword represents the rending rule for me and will glow a bit with hellfire.
http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/3923/juggywip2.jpg
And thus my next problem arises, how to mount the rider to the Jugger. I am probaly going to have to attach two chains of jewery chain to the ring in his hand. Then attach the two ends to the Jugger's collars. When based, the Jugger will be jumping into the air and hopfully wont look so flat in the end. Here is a size comparison with a Bloodcrusher:
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/6506/sizecomparison.jpg
This project ended up on the backburner for a long time haha. I cant remember the date of that blog entry in our local groups blog.
I finished it on March 24th 2011 according to my warpshadow blog:

And that was its old pant job. I ended up doing a MASSIVE touch up overhaul to ALL my Daemons. Sadly... I can not do this to my nids as I have an apocalyptic amount of them.
Here is the Bloodcrushers with my count as Skulltaker on Charriot.
http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/5389/crushersdone.jpg
These photos are kinda bad lol. I did a mottled pattern on the crushers. The touchups was pretty much saturate the colours more.

Last thing I haven't shown from my Khorne Daemons is my Bloodthirster made out of the plastic Daemon Prince model. It's got skulls woven into its main and a blood soaked whip that wreathes like its alive. The skull I sculpted on his thigh armour looks dumb goofy looking though :<
http://img864.imageshack.us/img864/237/bloodthirsterupdate.jpg
And some of the WIP greenstuffing way back when... which was from last year. He got a smaller chain for his "chain thong", that one in the WIP was too big lol.
http://a.imageshack.us/img256/2573/bloodthirsterwip.jpg
I got some chaos spawn to restock my chaos bits, and also wont hurt to run boon of mutation on a model.
The first is a little stab at the Gray Knights. I doubt fluff wise that a GK would be effected by the warp like this, but I hate their "psycodouche" grenades enough to manifest my utter anoyance lol.
http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/3809/gkspawn.jpg
And the WIP of it:
http://img811.imageshack.us/img811/7456/gkspawnwip.jpg
KrewL RaiN
03-11-2012, 04:23 PM
The second is a gribbly tentacled wtf. Carnifex heads are great for stealing teeth from! Pinkies (I will show Pinky soon enough) old worm cluster is too good to leave unused, so the spawn adopted them for tongues. This black one is hard to take photos off because the light keeps reflecting off it too much lol. Kept it blacks and grays for these spawns, which is my chaos undivided colours for the army.
http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/870/spawnsdone.jpg
WIP of the gribblebrainz:
http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/8333/gribblyspawnwip.jpg
And then one of my crazier Daemon Prince projects. This is a flying Nurgle Prince I named the Blob, as it needs to absorb spare parts as other parts decay or become too damaged to use. Your probaly wondering how it flies, thus that's chaos for you lol! This was a crazy "use up a bunch of spare bits", like the scraps of Juggernauts left over from my two headed Juggernaut conversion. Funny enough, this guy is still sitting around unfinished because I cant make up my mind on what colour scheme I want to use. I tried the green thing and it just doesn't pop.
http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/3966/blobgreenfinished.jpg
This is what hes currently at paint wise and I am just not happy with it colour wise.

Epic conersions! Your GS work is truely amazing. Keep it up.
I can see what you mean about the Nurgle beastie. Tricky one for sure. I'd almost be tempted to redo the green bits in a sickly/puss coloured yellow, with green mucus/slime pooling at the lower reaches and recesses. Maybe a hint of a necrotic grey?

That may just do it... could probaly paint it like my soulgrinder, but with a more sickly coloured skintone... hmm
Also saw this on Cmon and love the colours: http://www.coolminiornot.com/300808 though I cant tell if that's gray or brown due to the lighting.

This may be a bit of a rough ride if the perfectionist in me interferes... but I want to take my Tyranids to a higher level. Over 4-5 years, I think I have come a long way painting and sculpting wise, so I do feel ready to tackle something harder now. I should be able to pick up my new models tomorrow, so kinda excited and nervous at the same time haha. I just don't want to wreck them from massive reposing :<
First thing on my mind is improving my fleets scheme. I just want to add more detail into it. I did a very rough doodle with markers of two possible tweaks to my scheme.
http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/7089/schemechangevote.jpg
The first one is typical Tyranid carapace striping lengthwise. The black carapace lining will also branch out a bit, just to add some more detail and not make it just look like back solid lines.
Or, I can do something a bit different and go the spots route. Instead of the typical lines, I will make it a little mottled. The black spots will also extend onto the limbs/tail/head a bit too. Only thing is this scheme may look too busy.
Or do I just stick to the same old, and just highlight more. I will use this old un based T-Fex WIP for a current scheme reference photo:
http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/1643/tfexpainted.jpg
Any thoughts?

It just breathed 100% more life into the model. Everything blends together now, and its all like, glowy looking, omg I love it lol.
I wont be doing the black spots on the flesh, for I feel it would make things too busy.
Now I have to do this to a few other models before the tournament this weekend lol. It's actually surprisingly fast to do too.

My scheme has heavy contrasting colours. I dunno if I want to shade the black in fear of loosing the heavy contrast look. It is drybrushed with gray a bit, because that's the only way I know how to do it... its something with the black paint that makes it rather glossy.

As for learning to sculpt, when I was younger I did play with fimo and plastercine alot. I have gone though a lot of phases with my art, and I am back to painting and sculpting these days over drawing. It was a bit rough for me getting back into the sculpting thing, especially at this level, but I have been at it for 4 going onto 5 years now like Skari said (I know him irl), and the difference between my old and new work is insane.

I am back into Tyranid mode again lol. Still working on updating the scheme of my older models and working on a SH Genestealer painting commission on top if it all, and then my new Tyranid kits on top of it too, aaaaaa too much hobby xD
With my new Flyrant, I want to try out the pouncing pose like HF Molochs Flyrant. This should be easier to do now due to this kit being plastic.
Those spare spines from the T-fex/Terivon kit that go on the belly if you make it into a T-fex. Thing is, I am unsure about those "due claws". The feet kinda look a bit busy with all those stabby bits lol. The head is not glued on.
http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/6527/flyrantwip.jpg
And then here is how the feet are looking currently.
http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/1980/tyrantfeeeeets.jpg
And I started work on my Tervigon. There is a few design details I want to improve upon, and its looking good so far.
First is the head. I want to make it look more intelligent, and making the mouth smaller did the trick! With a huge space under the chin now, it became the perfect spot for an adrenal glad symbiote to make its home. I also added some "predator" like webbing between the two mandibles. I have to finish the other side of the head still. Have to wait for one side to try before doing the other.
http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/9900/terviheadwip.jpg
The gaunts busting out of the eggsack looks a bit painful too, so I turned the tear into a sphincter opening.
http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/359/tervigauntpoopage.jpg
It's also dumb that the kit didnt come with pair of non combat arms. I am going to have to make some clawed hands. One arm will be pointing forwards in the direction the gaunts are facing.
Dont mind those mold lines and "sprue cliff off tumours", they will be filled off.

My Orks haven't got any love these days. I see a used Baneblade kit for 15 dollars at the event I won the painting award at. I hear my Big Mek yell out in the back of my mind "I WANNA LOOTS IT, YOU GIMME DAT OR I KRUMP YER SKULL IN"
It sat on my shelf all bright and yellow and today I am all... hrrmmm might as well slap some Ork stuff on it lol.
And here is the Skullhamma so far after "dunking it in crazy glue and rolling it in Ork bits" I probaly need some plastic card and giant straws to finish it. The gunners are not glued on, they just sit there nice and snug. The tank kommanda is also removable.
http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/3719/skullhammahwip.jpg
My Orks aren't as fancy as my Nids or Daemons, so I tend not to show them much. Their main scheme is red with a black zig zaggy pattern, and they use red and white warpaint on their skin. They also like to collect bones and skulls, but they are not dedicated to Khorne. They actually like to fight Khorne devotees so they can loot all their skulls xD. Here is a silly photo way back when, because I had to do this lol. My battlewagon can switch from normal to deathrolla mode easily. You dont even need magnets. I have touched the wagon up, its a little more cleaner looking now lol.

Here's all that I have been doing this past month Hobby wise. I apologize for the lighting in some of the photos. Once the weather is nice and sunny, I will be taking a bunch of better quality photos of my touched up gribbles.
Here is how the Tervigon is looking at the moment. The head is finished and attached to the body. I had to do some sculpting on the neck to hide that bloody gap. I also have her claws all assembled. They just need some final touchups. I used Wormwood's crazy glue and baking soda trick here. I am using that combo for life now lol.
http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/1551/moreterviwip.jpg
My perfectionist also kicked in hard again, and ended up touching up some things on a few models. I got Gansta Tyrant (Named because of the sideways pointed devourers) as a used model and it didnt have the dew claws. I had left overs from the plastic kit, so I crazy baking soda glued them in. Since they are way bigger then the normal metal dew claws, I call them curb stompers lol. Swarmys tail was also bothering me big time. I needed to blend it all together, as the slap together look was driving me crazy. I did that tail years ago and I can do better now. I put the new Swarmlord bits on before hand, as my old crappy GS swords were driving me insane.
http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/1682/tyranttouchups.jpg
My Trigon Primes pose was bothering me, as well as the omnom prime mouth of nommage. I removed the old Carnifex jaw I used in there, and replaced it with the jaw of the T-Fex head and the Tervigon tounge. Also repositioned the limbs a little bit.
http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/8106/primefacelift.jpg
And on the topic of Trigons, I finally got some motivation to finish Scarfaces base. Now all 3 are a happy family now!
http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/7620/trigonsallhappytogether.jpg
And a funny little tidbit while I was finishing Scarfaces base. I felt something fall on my head. I am all ... whaaa? Then I go meh and get back to work. Then I felt something big crawling down my arm and it was one of these gribbly wonders, a full grown one too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scutigera_coleoptrata Maybe it was a blessing from the Sky Mother.

The wrist is the knuckle part of the 3rd ed scything talons. It comes on the Warrior big gun sprue with the rending claws. The fingers are Termagant midsection legs. I have a bunch of them due to a devilgaunt conversion I did for a contest. I won scarface from said contest.
Here is the conversion for the curious: http://album.warpshadow.com/v/Paintcontest/littleones/krewl/
I have the devourers mounted into the chest cavity, hence the midsection arms being modified.

My creativity ebbs and flows. Then sometimes it just wtfsplodes all over the place lol. I have been having another dry spell mojo wise, and then it comes back like being hit in the face with a brick lol. Thus, the Tervigon is almost done.
I decided to give the Apoxie Sculpt a test run on the "birthing sphincters". It was quite the trial and error experience for this stuff likes to leave a funky residue on your hands when you mix it. And then its pretty crumbly like play doh until it cures a bit. Even with the rough first time date with AS, the end result was, I love this stuff lol! It was way easier to get this type of pattern with the AS over the GS, since the AS was more forgiving.
I am also having a hate period with the Toxin Sac biomorph. I have grown to hate those fidgety dumb tics so I am going to start representing toxicity differently now. With my Hormagaunts, I just used different scything talons. So I am going to take that approach with other models, with just giving them some unique feature of dispensing poison. With the Tervigon, its the tail and the sacs around her jaw, which pump poison into the mandables. I still like the little adrenal glad bugs, since they are easier to place and dont look so random, and the one on the Tervigon is nestled under the jaw.
Anyhow here's the photos:
http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/900/tervi1almostdone.jpg
And then... here's Tervigon number 2 in WIP mode! One thing I am unsure about is the tongue length. Would it be better shorter?

the GS work overall is great, fitting and cool at the same time without being OTT. The vulvae look amazing too realistic but not true life realism :) if i ever go nids (shh she's right beside me) i will so be doing those on my tervigons.
the tongue for me, i would aim to have it ending at the current third spike from the tip. it would still look menacing but not 'ne nar ne nar' style

Nooo not my blood, I need my bloood lol
When it comes to those "sphincters" they will always look vaginal in the end haha. Can't mess with mother natures design for such things lol. Once painted, its going to look rather messy. Gotta make sure I have some clear epoxy resin on hand for the "gooening" I use this stuff from the hardware store and it makes a nice quick goo. It does give off some heat when cureing but it does not get that hot. I have used it before on some projects.
Still torn on that tongue though, its like, can't decide what way to go. I think it could look good either long or short. One avid Tyranid sculptor says its cool as is, as its like a woodpecker tongue. The answer usually hits me in a caffeine rush or a long walk, cant rush the creative process lol.

Funnily my Mrs was quite impressed at the effect on your tervigon, so i think blood will be ok where it is ... for now LOL
yeah epoxy goo is great for the 'wet' goo :) apparently satan (GW) is releasing a new water effect this month (or repacking their old stuff) i may give it a try on some test minis to see if it can get the 'goo' effect without the possibility of the epoxy everywhere accidents i always seem to have with the 2 part goo :)
if not it will do for pools and puddles on my urban terrain :)

I hope to get some higher quality photos of my miniatures done if this works out.
Everytime I try to take some quality photos of my miniatures, the lighting ALWAYS ruins everything! I would take a bunch of photos, then have a mental meltdown when I upload them to the PC and see how "terribad" they turned out. I just kept giving up :(
Now I am pulling up my socks and fighting back. With my phenomenal "tape and cardboard" wizardry skills (lol) and an online guide, I made this lightbox:
http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/3415/photoboxp.jpg
That was just a test run. It's the evening, so the shadows from the window get crappy. I will have to try it at noon when that window gets nuked by the sun and the shadows dont go diagonal like that. I defiantly need a bit more light so I can get the green to pop more, so I hope the noon sun does it. My desk lamp is too yellow and natural light it so much better.

try some daylight bulbs in your desktop lamps, and pop one behind/above (trial and error) the soft box looks great though. you'd be shocked how much you can pay for a manufactured version of what you knocked up with card and tape and a bit of muslin :)
but overall your lighting is looking better already. i really gotta make a soft box too its just way easier to get consistent pics that way (my Mrs is a photographer :) so she has a light kit and stuff)

I have to make a bigger one for squad shots, doh lol. That little one is still nice for single models. Still have enough fabric to make another. I made my old army carrying boxes out of tape and cardboard, and my models survived, yet my friends hated that I carried my armies around in though lmao. Eventually, Mom asks them for xmas present ideas. Yup... got battlefoam now xD. Still, gogo tape and cardboard powah!

Well good news and bad news on TerviTwo
The good news is shes done. The bad... well... I decided to shorten the tongue a bit. In the process, I accidentally took out all the teeth on on side of the lower jaw and chipped two on the other side... Lets just say, I was SEVERELY peed off with myself. After a few days of hopelessness, my usual trick with dealing with such roadblocks pops into my head. If you cant fix it, turn it into battle damage! Now its just she had a bad day with a power fister and got sucker punched in the jaw. I sculpted a healed crack on the less damaged side, and the badly damaged side has a whole mass of reconstructive healing going on. No close ups atm because its hard to tell whats going on unpainted.
TerviTwo also had some midleg reposing. The tendons between the upper joint is just a paperclip pinning job with some GS sculpted over. She's looking a little ill tempered with her pose. I would have an attitude problem too if I got sucker punched in the jaw with a power fist lol
Sorry for the half arse photos yet again :<

Since I am at the painting stage for those Tervigons and a commission on top of it all, I thought I would share my disorganized workspace lol. When it comes to art, my stuff is just all over the place! Mr.Pinks blog also inspired some addons like the bake station (I got that lamp for 5 dollars at a yard sale and it does get hot). I also got some new sculpting tools from the place were I get my tools and brushes. It's a little hobby shop in St.Mary's ON. Since they do sculpting classes in there, I knew they would have some of those fancy silicone tools. They only sell bake sculpting stuff like fimo and super sculpty though, no two part self drying putties (I get my GS from Miniwargaming). These new tools should help a lot when I get working on that Harridan!

Now I am in a flyrant mood. I need a sanity break from painting so much Tervigon, so Tervitwo will be finished when Pewpewflyflyrant is done.
Sorry again for the blurry WIP photos. The cameras batteries were dying, so these photos are a bit hastily taken.
Those wings NEED to be magnetized. The wingspan on this kit is so epic that most carrying cases will struggle to contain the epicness lol. I ran into a bit of a problem with the magnets unable to hold those wings straight, so I had to sculpt a "lip" to help hold the wing on. The pictures can explain this better. I also ripped off the GS on the one foot. Didn't like it so going to redo. I have to touch up the GS work on the neck area too. I have to get those tendon details in a bit more.
http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/8933/flyrantisaflyflymagnets.jpg
As for the weapons, I was thinking about the MC flying rules. How would this thing vector strike if it had a gun on each arm lol. I can see it happening with the normal scything talon feet, but I modded mine into clawed feet. I had to come up with something different. I will combine the quad devourers into one gun, and the other arm will be the ultimate rending appendage, inspired by Bugsculpters Dakkatyrant http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lmhcbrn8eq1qbc7kuo1_500.jpg . Said ultimate rending appendage is a bloody mess right now. I will be able to clean it up more as I sculpt onto it. All you see right now is a mess of a "crushing claw forearm with pinned in Trigon tail claws coated in crazy glue and baking soda disaster" lol. The Quad-Dev is made by chopping up 3 Termagant Dev's and combining them into a cone. Then I chop up a Barbed Strangler. The bottom feeder tube is a Trigon Prime mandible, and the upper arm feed is the tube of said BS. The gaps will be sculpted in.

As for guns on the wings, I am not a fan. The Harridan has guns on its wings, and I always think how the heck does it aim with flapping its wings lol. It has to swoop or something to keep the guns steady to pewpew.

Here is how the devourer turned out. It is my favorite devourer conversion to date. It better fire good on the tabletop lol.

The claw still needs some work. The pose of this thing is driving me nuts. I closed the hand and changed the angle of the arm in hopes it will look more in line with the final pose, but its still bugging me ><;

Soon it will be complete... sooooon.
The base is done, minus attaching the Tyrant and then hiding the "socket". The large coral piece is resin. I broke apart a huge resin coral decor thing. I just took a hammer and tapped it apart at the seems (witch were hastily putted looking to begin with). The smaller corals are real coral bits, witch I am running low on. The larger coral piece in the back balances out the "space" of the whole piece. Since the Tyrant is leaning more forward on the base, I needed something large to fill in the back "unused space".
http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/9381/allmybase.jpg
With the feet, one is a bit larger then the other... argh symmetry is such a pain... most wouldn't notice unless they take a close look, but it shall tourment me lol.
http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/2574/feetsies.jpg
And here is my new wing scheme. I wanted something more then just a black wing, and I didnt want to do the "tear drop thing" that I did on my Gargoyles. I will be redoing my Gargoyles wings to this. I am keeping this darker then the main carapace patterns. It would just be too "in your face" if it was as bright as the carapace.
http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/9793/wingscheme.jpg
The paint you see right now is the "base coat and wash" phase. Just have to clean and detail it up, attack to base, and it's ready to omnomnom the skies. I will be making a bonesword/lashwhip one in the future. I just love this kit too much lol. I didnt magnetize the arms because the posing is too important. It's hard to get a good pose messing with magnets =/
Rev. Tiberius Jackhammer

Got a good pattern going on the wings there. The quad-Devourer gun and the vector-claw really make the most of how the rules would clash with the stock model, kudos!

All week it was flying Tyranid week lol
Got all my Gargoyles touched up for 6th ed. The Adrenal Glands kinda sat funny on their backs with a huge gap showing underneath. So I did a tiny conversion were the AG bug "melded" into the carapace. It kinda looks like a parasitic pimple lol. I would guess the AG bug would inject a painkiller before digging into the Gargoyles backs like that lol.
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/4295/gargoyletouchups.jpg
I am so sick of painting white right now lol... but the Flyrant is presentable now. I am a bit angry that I glued it onto the base at the wrong angle. It looks like its landing and not pouncing... There is no way I can pry that off and fix it without damaging the tail, so I am going to have to live with it =/
http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/8458/flyrant.jpg
Next up on the touchup line is my Hormagaunts. The models I play with have higher priority on the scheme touch up list. Then after these... I gotta tackle my *shudders* Termagant pile.

Some good can come out of the bad when my mind is on overdrive. On one side of the coin, I am going bloody insane. On the other side, I tend to get hyper creative. This "bitzavore" was born out of it. It's a little experimental so I am looking for some input. The proportions are a bit odd, so I want to see if its worth making another one or not. I also think this is twice the size of the standard model!
I had to get a bit of work done on it before showing, because it wouldn't make any sense in its "stuck together" form. This was made out of spare T-fex, Ravener, Trigon, and Warrior bits.
http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/5765/bitzavorewip1.jpg
The Acid Spray is the Spore Mine launcher. You probaly thought this was a Pyrovore from the photo. The middle limbs are Trigon Prime mandibles. This guy almost looks like a Tyranid Atlas with holding that massive Bioweapon on its back. I still have to sculpt the other side, so you can get a peek on what it looked like from the start!
http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/7554/bitzavorewip2.jpg
Those weird forelimbs probaly make zero sense right now. They are a baking soda crazy glue mess right now lol. Most of the spiky bits came off the Acid Spray. These are chopped down Fleshborer Hives. I left the dangling things on the arms, because these are meant to be stabilizer spines that shoot into the ground. Mr.Pinks Exocrine features a similar feature: http://modernsynthesist.blogspot.ca/2011/04/old-strains-exocrine-project-de.html
Here is a little stick together of what it looks like with the arms:
http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/2881/bitzavorewip3.jpg
Here is were I am getting unsure with design wise. It digs its tail into the ground for more stabilization. It has really beefy forearms. Legs or no legs? That is the question. I have some atrophied stand ins right now. The way I see this gribble is a living tripod. It could walk with no legs, but it would look slow and clumsy. Half slithering half walking. Small legs could work too, but those big arms would make the smaller legs look a little strange. Here's a photo showing both options.
http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/5144/bitzavorewip4.jpg
Curious to see what you think of my little mad science experiment, literally spawned from the depths of my madness lol. My mental health is much better now, so no worries there. Oh the joys of stress.

Rev. Tiberius Jackhammer

The tiny, zoanthrope-like legs work, the designers usually make a big deal about 'nids having evidence of being six-limbed on their bodies, after all. Good spin on the Biovore concept, lacks the Orky-derp the normal model has. :P If only it had the nadgers of the 3rd ed. Biovore, though.
KrewL RaiN
08-19-2012, 02:46 PM
Some design changes have happened to the Biovore from some constructive critique. Now I really wish I didnt destroy a set of Fleshborer Hives... dang creative highs...
I have been in a Tzeentch mood with the new models that came out. The first isn't really new, but I have been wanting it for a while. I don't like the official model for the Changeling, so I came up with this. Once painted, the shift between two forms will look more clear.
http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/3747/changelingh.jpg
With the new Flammers, I think I made them look way too busy. They were busy looking to begin with! I think once they are painted, everything should tie together better. I wish I could sculpt fire, because I really want a huge main of fire going down their backs.
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/5686/flammers.jpg
And the new Screamers are awesome. I just wanted to add some more detail and give them a meaner choppy mouth with leftover headbits. I still need to get another box to bump the squad to 6 strong. I need to save my pennies for Dark Vengeance!

I have been dead quiet with my project logs. I am finally starting to feel like myself again after that medication switch. I felt like I lost a month of my life...
With a special annual local tournament approaching, I am in a bit of a mad rush to get my Daemons ready. Right now, Tyranids is just too much stuff for me to remember. I also took apart my Hive Guard to salvage the bits and completely redo them. I just cant stand playing with them like that anymore, they are so dated with the old sculpting look and everyone thinks they are warriors. That means the conversion is a failure if they cant recognize what they are...
My Changeling turned out the way I wanted it! It blends into the squad, yet also has that look that something is amiss. Is it morphing into a Horror to blend into the squad, or morphing out of a Horror into something else? All my Horrors are done now! I love how the Blue Horrors look paired up like that. It kinda looks like they just split appart lol. With the 5 strong blobs, the raised hand on fire is the Bolt user and easy to spot.
http://imageshack.us/a/img163/3483/changelingandhorrors.jpg
With my Heralds, the arrival of those Slannesh Chariots got me a bit annoyed. I had to make something to match up to it, plus it looks like you have to use oval bases now. I took apart my two "Chariots". One Disc and all the Chaos Spawn will be the new Chariot, while the left over Disc will function as itself.
Fleshshaper name is his lore. Mortals that encounter him will be "sculpted" into monstrosities. It's fitting that his Chariot would be made from the victims of his favorite skill. His disc binds them all together in a rather unsettling way, impaling each spawn with its tentacles. It will release spawn from its grasp to attack foes on its masters command. I just placed Fleshshapers old "Chariot" onto the oval, then added the other 2 Chaos Spawn to complete the Chariot look. Then I linked them all together. I may have to repaint that red spawn, since the disc is red and I want those tentacles to stand out.
Undivided got weaseled out of his Chariot for now. He has to share a Disc with a newly spawned Herald. I haven't came up with a name for this new guy yet, but it has to be something linked to fire, for this Herald leads a pack of Flammers. All 3 of my Heralds have been magnetized.
http://imageshack.us/a/img585/4219/heraldss.jpg
As for my Flammers, I just cant get good photos of them... I also had a hell of a hard time painting these things due to so many tiny details. I wanted them to look dark and smokelike. The areas were flames spout out I wanted to look glowy blue, but I can't pull that off. You can easily pick out my Pyrocaster. I made it look bigger then the others. I did do a bit of converting on these. I added more tendrils and put some horns on them. That's to help tell who is who for wound placing. With using my new Disc Herald as the Deep Strike focus, I can circle the Flammers around him and get those flame templates all in. Hopefully majority toughness can help protect that squishy Herald lol. Also, lol Overwatch. The Icon I felt was safe to use. I can use it for summoning backup if needed.
http://imageshack.us/a/img843/5686/flammers.jpg
This is my list for the curious. I take some questionable things, but this event isn't all WACC orientated and I just want to have fun. That Soulgrinder got one painting award, so I hope it can strut its stuff to with the rest of my force to compete for best painted!

Update time. Took some more photos of the DA all together. I also forgot to show those darned 4's I painted on the shoulder pads lol.

As for the flamers, The 3 are just sitting around waiting for some paint. They are seriously a pain to paint, hence me not really inspired to paint them right now lol. They look like black blobs in the photos haha. The big one is the Pyrocaster. The painted ones look better in real life. It's very hard to get photos of them.

And here is some progress on my Word Bearers. I tried to see if I can construct wings from scratch for my Warptalons, but had no luck... I will have to try another approach, and if that doesn't work, I will have to go the Gargoyle wing route. With the Chosen, I did some minor ad-on's and weapon swaps.
http://imageshack.us/a/img20/6767/wbwipwpwpwoblarg.jpg
The aspiring champ got his axe switched for a sword, as I want each member of the squad to have different weapons. These guys are not being built for tournament play so I am not worried about it.
Powermaul guy got a meltagun, and I wanted to do the "tentacle backpack weapon holdy thing" with it. The original backpack has a bolter being held and reloaded with tentacles. I want each model to look different, so I did a pack switch.
With the combi-flamer guy, I did a test attempt at a full arm/weapon swap with the model double, but it didnt work. I just wanted him to have a flamer, so I really had to get creative... yes it is a combi-weapon, but its deamonically possessed. The deamon inside turbocharged the flamer part and will not allow the bolter to fire anymore, as it wants to burn everything. I am not done sculpting the details onto the weapon yet. When its done, it will show that the flamer bit is the only thing functioning on the weapon lol.
I swapped the axe weapon head around on the axe guy, due to that axe head being way cooler lol. I wrapped the cut with some "unpurity seals" the Word Wearers love so much hehe.
With the powerclaw guy, I saw that bone weaved into his loincloth, so I matched that up with a kroot bit with bones weaved into fabric. Then added a skull onto of his powerpack.
Powerfist man got some more pow into his fist with some added spikes! That backhand has to hurt!
Still got work to do on the aspiring champ and the lord, and then I need to finish some details on the Helbrute.
Wow, those are some really nice greenstuff additions, mate!

Long time no blorg. Things have slowed down now as I have settled into my new apartment. I have been knee deep into my Word Bearer project, with a commission on the go go too. These are what I have been working on during my silence! The colours got a bit washed out by my desk lamp... these photos dont do the paint job any justice ><; I am really trying to pour character and fluff into these guys, and I am having a really fun time doing so!
My Dark Apostle's Host is under the influence of a powerful Tzeentchian Greater Daemon, who was exiled and imprisoned for disobedience. This Daemon heard the blasphemous rituals of this Host, and began to reach out to the Apostle. When the Apostle begin to hear the Daemons whispers and promises of great power, he bit the baited hook, and preformed the requested ritual on his most faithful follower.
My Apostle is based on the Huron model. I love that model and his rules. I dont want some generic panzie Apostle out of the rule book, I want a full blown WB badass Apostle. I will be using Huron's rules for him. I also want to make that axe look more like a Accursed Crozius, but still be recognizable as an axe... still stumped on that one.
http://imageshack.us/a/img707/7277/apostilewb.jpg
His First Acolyte was chosen for the ritual and was horribly mutated into the Voice of the Faceless Daemon. The Acolyte is now just a puppet which the Daemon speaks though. The Voice is always by the Apostles side, showing the Apostle new rituals that will strengthen all who follow him. The Voice tears the skin off fallen foes to use as those "unholy seals" the Word Bearers usually wear. Those who are chosen receive these new seals, which constantly drip in blood. Unknown to the Apostle, these seals bind all who wear them to the Faceless Daemon. The skin collecting pouch is out of view in the photos :< The Voice also carries a blasphemous banner which increases the zeal of all around it (fearless banner). In game, The Voice is just a member of the Chosen squad and is not the Champion. The Voice is too crafty and would rather not jump into a fight. He can also be run with the standard Dark Apostle rules if he wants to be inspirational.
Next is my Apostles Coryphaus. If the Apostle wants someone dead, he sends his Coryphaus after them. Then the Coryphaus summons his Warp Talon pets, un-sheaths the Murder Sword, and then the hunt begins. Slannesh has tasted their thrill of the hunt, and has given them a few gifts, mainly wings and the Coryphaus "lightning claw". While they dont worship Slannesh at all, I still feel that the gods will still grant gifts to anyone who displays said gods preferred emotions or skills. Those gifts have to come from somewhere! On the base, there is a melted Gray Knight. The said Knights head is being held high in that clawed blasphemy of a hand.
http://imageshack.us/a/img708/9648/flyingwbgroup.jpg
The Warp Talons have had real wings added to them. I didnt like those stumpy metal thingys. If these are labeled as Daemons, they should look more Daemonic! These are still very WIP.
The Faceless Daemon has been teaching it's vast knowledge of Biomancy (its specialty!) to the Hosts Sorcerers though the Voice. They learn how to shape flesh into a weapon, and these Sorcerers tend to practice on themselves, sprouting gribbly appendages and other vile limbs. Each Sorcerer is also granted a familiar, which looks like a Daemonic Tapeworm. These are commonly used in Biomantic rituals to make thralls and bodyguards. The Familiar latches onto the victims head, liquifies their brains and sucks them out, while the Sorcerer recites the Biomantic spell to turn the victim into their slaves. This ritual was done on some Ogryn, turning them into ghoulish versions of their former selves (Counts as Chaos Spawn with Mark of Nurgle). These are still very WIP.

This model has some more minor mutations, as hes a bit of a newbie lol. He has altered his leg structure to allow him to jump insanely high and spindly limbs to cling to and climb walls (jetpack). His familiar is coiled around his leg, dripping in blood from a recent snack. The body of the Familiar cant be seen in the photos :< The head on the back of the base is the severed head of said snack! I will be making a heavily mutated Sorcerer (the head Biomancer), who counts as riding a Bike, along with his "biker bodyguard", when I get some better ideas on how I want them to look.
This is my Apostles bodyguard of Chosen. I wanted each to look like a specialist, so each has a different power weapon. Whenever a Chosen kit comes out, I will add some "cannon fodder" members, who are just the default load-out. I still need to base these.

More coming in a second post, darned image limits!

When a champion of this Host ascends to princedom, they become an Avatar of the Faceless Daemon, due to the tainted seals it makes though its Voice. This is still very WIP. I had that DP kit in a ziplock bag for over a year. The sculpting I did on it just wasn't working, so I ripped off as much greenstuff as I could. This was going to be a Keeper of Secrets but I just could not get my vision sculpted right... Now it has a second chance being integrated into my WB force. If this is played as an HQ in fluff mode, its a flying Tzeentch prince with Biomancy and the Black Mace. I used those dumb metal Warp Talon wings as the mace fins. Those look TEN TIMES BETTER as mace fins lol! There is going to be some heavy sculpting done on this, so the appearance will change, especially the face, which will be tentacled.
http://imageshack.us/a/img194/7999/avatarwb.jpg
And to finish off, an angry Hellbrute. When a Chosen falls, the Apostle isn't going to let them retire easy lol
http://imageshack.us/a/img22/6130/angryhellbrute.jpg
My WB fluff is inspired my Chaos Dwarves and the Legion of Everblight, who all revolve around a godlike being. The Chaos Dwarves revolve around an Exiled Greater Daemon, while Everblight is like an unstoppable cancer, weaving itself into its minions and reshaping them to serve his needs. There is also some Lovecraftian inspiration in there too, as the Faceless Daemon likes to manifest itself in a Cthulhu like image, and the heavy influence of Biomancy in my force. I hope I am still keeping in the lines of WB fluff hehe.
Some future additions in planning are:
-LOTS of Cultists (some will be victims of that lovely Biomantic ritual)
-Biomancy "Biker Sorcerer" and "Biker Minions"
-Forgefiend
-Possessed
-Terminators
-Helldrake (Zombie Dragon kitbash, seen a few around and they are georgous!)
-Landraider (Kit bash with Fantasy Chaos Warshrine)

The Helbrute was hell to paint... so many darned details and ended up as one model that has taken me the longest to paint.
http://imageshack.us/a/img209/5921/helbrutepainted.jpg
I got my WarpTalons pre based too. It will make it a bit easier to handle them with sculpting. So many pointy stabby bits! I mounted them on clear flying stands to give them more dynamic poses. Their bases will be fun, since I will be making them all warp tear wtf wheeee lol
http://imageshack.us/a/img836/477/warptalonwip.jpg
And some work done on my mixed weapon Cultist squad. They are a IG squad that went insane with a cannibalistic hunger from warp exposure. The guy in the commissar cloak killed said commissar by biting a hole though his jugular. Then the squad ate him, but the killer kept the cloak lol. They are full blown cannibalistic nutcases now, and eventually got contacted by the Word Bearers. They follow them zealously ever since.
I did a few arm and head swaps, and added a few mutations to make them all look more unique. Some members have flesh taken from an unfortunate Adeptus Astartes hanging off hooks. The banner is just for cosmetic purposes. I need to get a few IG and more Kroot parts to finish these guys up.

I am a bit stuck due to having to prime models, and the weather isnt very ideal for priming right now. One down side of new apartment, no room to prime models indoors lol. Moms place has this side entry were we keep the recycling and its well ventilated. It's were I prime my models and now I have to wait till I go visit to get some work done lol. Gotta get that Dreadknight and Psycher for Brad primed and get cracking on them.

Brads Dreadknight has defiantly been a challange. I just have some touch ups to do on the main body, some magnetic adjustments, then finish painting the weapons. He will have to add his magic sauce to finish the look of the metal. Right now its driving me nuts and I swear his clear coat sealer is the secret to that awesome looking blue/boltgun metal look he has on his GK.
I'll show his Primaris Psycher since its done. I love how he turned out. I felt the browns kept him very neutral so he can fit into any force. Then the red facial hair to give him a nice bold look.
http://imageshack.us/a/img35/1194/primaris.jpg
I also did a little adjustment to my still unnamed Coryphaeus. I feel WYSIWYG guys would get a bit flustered that he doesn't have a pistol showing anywhere. I was rolling with the idea that his claw hand or sword can throw a ball of plasma. So I gave him a new mutation which holsters is weapons. Since his claw hand cant hold weapons, these tentacles on his back holster his murder sword or plasma pistol. The way I see him is he mainly attacks with his claw (using the power swords stats, also looks nice representing that +1 attack) and only uses the sword on worthy opponents. His silhouette is really intimidating now lol.
http://imageshack.us/a/img708/8611/lordupdate.jpg
He will have a bodyguard of plasma pistol toting Raptors eventually. The idea is he summons his pet Warp Talons as the second wave of attack. They will all be marked "Zealous" (Khorne). My other modded mark is "Biomorphed" (Nurgle). I'll have some Zealots (Berzerkers) made up eventually too when I have enough Raptor chainswords. My Biomancy wing will be the Sorcerer, the Spawns and the mutated Cultists (using the VC Ghouls).
