Thought I'd show what I've been spending much of my sculpting time working on lately after accepting a Commission for a ull squad of ten Praetorian themed Ogryn conversions based on the Ogre Bull (and later Leadbelcher) plastic kits.

At the moment I've gotten to the stage of having the first five finished excluding their weapons which will be the next part of the project before moving onto the other five members of the unit.

The first three came out pretty much as I'd hoped, there is to be a fair bit of diversity in terms of uniform across the unit to give them the proper Praetorian feel, while also having a feral edge of what lies beneath.

The forth I was less happy with, while the concept of the open jacket was fun it just didnt work out in line with the vision, acceptable, but he's definately my least favourite of the first five.

The Bonehead meanwhile has been a big success for me, it's definately been one of my favourites to make (the first two were probably on a par with him as they ooze with character for me), looking forward to an Ogryn sized chainsword to arm him with next.

my jaw just hit the floor

These are absolutely insaneeee !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree the 4th one from the front isnt as crash hot as the others... If his jacket could be given a thinner look material at the front i think you would have a winner

NUTS! i love them and wish i could sculpt like this

actually the more i look at the open jacket model the more i like it

i think maybe its missing something minor but i cant pin point it

my jaw is still on the floor by the way

Man, I love these. I may have to commission you to make me a Chapter Master Tu'shan one of these days!

Those are fantastic! You did a great job of keeping the ones in Praetorian uniform looking standardized when compared to each other, despite all three being separate sculpts. The main issue with the open jacket, I think, is that it's not 100% obvious which part of the jacket you're seeing immediately, and it leaves a big blank space. I think having jacket-insides (pockets and seams etc.) would fix that. Best of luck on the rest!

Those look really good , nice job .

Thanks guys :)

Number four is gonna get a little more detail to the inside of his jacket, probably only seams, but after lots of suggestions to that effect and some thought I think it's the best way to go with him.

wittdooley, I'm only just getting into the field after just doing my own things for quite a while, the catch is as ever I'm slow, and I certainly dont consider myself professional, just aiming to fund my own hobby spending in the long run, but then what I'm charging does reflect that.

Ahh, Col Graivs, master of Praetorian Guardsmen! :) These Ogryn conversions are nothing short of fantastic!

What about your own Praetorian army, how are you getting on with that nowadays?

As ever it's work in progress, a second Russ just finished, with a selection of new Sergeants and Special Weapons on the painting table at the moment - then it's onto an Imperial Navy Valk and Vendetta

Ohhh I like those........

What you gonna do for ripper guns?

One thought about adding detail to number 4 - maybe have a couple of frag grenades hanging off a cord attached to the inside of his jacket? This would allow a couple of neat details - a tiny metal ring attached to the inside of the jacket, the short cord, and the grenade or two, shows where the Praetorian Ogryn store their frags and tells a small story - this one has opened up his jacket so he has ready access to his grenades.

Thankyou :)

The customer is after a Gatling style weapon for the Ripper Guns, I've started work on these now with half exposed barrels, the ends of these will be press molded all going well which is what I'll be upto next, then it's just a case of building the stocks.

I like the idea of the grenades, they would need to be quite bulky though which worries me a little as while it sounds great I'm not sure how it would look executed, I'll have a think.

Yeah, good point with the grenades. They'd look okay, but would raise the question about why the others don't have little grenade-shaped lumps under their jackets. Plus, it isn't the most practical place for grenades - I don't think "Alright lads, we're about to assault, take off your jackets!" is the best battle cry. Pockets probably wouldn't work, there isn't space for a pocket an ogryn could actually use on the inside of the jacket. Actually, you know those little tabs sewn on to shirts when you buy them, the ones with spare buttons sewn on? Having one of those would be completely ridiculous, but might work. Of course, as long as the inside of the jacket is a different color from the outside, it would look far better - right now it only looks a little off since it blends with the rest of the jacket color-wise.

Man good stuff. Nice green stuff work.

Aye, it's quite difficult to know exactly how they'll turn out till they've got paint on em, and by then it'll be to late for me to do anything about it lol, still we shall see!

An update on the Ogryns with the guns underway, I'm a terrible artisit so I did some state of the art computer graphics (note the blatant lie) to show my idea of the ripper gun to the chap who commissioned these, basicly he wants a Gatling Gun type arrangement and it's this that I'm working from.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x160/gravisblog/Forum%20Pictures/CommissionOgrynsWIP034.jpg

I've then knocked up the barrel assemblies from some half tube and plastic rod.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x160/gravisblog/Forum%20Pictures/CommissionOgrynsWIP036.jpg

And then created and cast with a greenstuff press molded the gun muzzle, this is the first one straight out of the mold, just need a little cleaning up now, onto the stock and ammo drum next.
