I would say defiantly fake, format is wrong too many named characters, without including old characters, some of the squads names would be silly even for GW.

It also is not formatted anything like GW does, and uses a different style and tone of language and wording. It looks more like a giant wishlist incorporating every GW and Forgeworld unit ever made all rolled into one, with some new stuff thrown in for good measure.

In short...

ITS A FAKE!!!

I wouldn't even go so far as to say fake as that woud imply some deliberate attempt to pass it off as a genuine article, but there clearly is no such effort here. More likely just a fandex that someone has erroneously labelled as 'leaked' to drum up interest.

The "-1 ld to any psykers for each battlesuit within 24" " made me laugh, too. That's an absurdly good psychic defense. With the Aegis, at least, you have to target the Grey Knights and the effects are not cumulative. Any Tau player with even just a handful of battle suits (e.g. every single one right now) would basically be immune to all psychic powers. And the rest of the special rules are equally absurd.

So, yeah. Fake.

penal gang? in tau?

no. just no. come on.

Hey Phil, didn't we teach you that anything that's too good to be true with the Tau usually isn't ;-)

lol

did you see the wargear on those firewarriors? Rifle, Carbine, Pistol, Close Combat weapon, grenades this grenades that, stubborn, counter-attack, free flamers.

This is more than a fan-dex. This is an "I want to win without having to actually play the game fan dex"

Yeah, I hope whoever wrote this made it as a joke. One massive joke. Because the only other explanation is a complete inability to understand even the most fundamental aspects of that whole 'balance' thing.

For one thing, everything has a completely retarded name. There are literally like 6 different "strike" teams, whether they're "shadow strike" or "death strike" or "striker" or why am I reading this garbage... Plus, most of the unit names are written in actual Tau language. Even Tau players will have to start studying to know what everything is. No one else will ever have the slightest clue. Horrible design. Matt Ward's names may be corny, but at least they're consistent and easy to understand.

Here's the special rules:
Pin them to the ground: Alters the core rules for how pinning works, and makes Fearless units take No Retreat wounds from pinning tests. Stupid.

Psychic disruption: Best psychic defense in the game. For free, with appropriate units.

Tau Precision: Contrary to all fluff, Tau are now masters of the deepstrike, on par with Blood angels. Literally, this is the exact same thing as Descent of Angels.

Learned Adaption: WTF? Seriously? Tau? Stubborn? Because they're "hardened" and "veterans"? Why doesn't Imperial Guard get Stubborn for those exact same reasons?

Right on time, On time to target: Tau are the ultimate reserve army. No more rolling, you get to bring on exactly what you want, when you want it, with zero chance of failure. This is literally gamebreaking. Hold an entire army of battlesuits in reserve, then deepstrike onto objectives turn 5.

For the Good of the Many: Since Stubborn isn't good enough, everyone gets a free bosspole that makes them Fearless. It also happens to make them immune to No Retreat. Because that's great game design.

As for the units, practically everything has about a million attacks, counter attack, space marine weaponskill, and... well, Tau would be the new assault army in the game. I'm surprised they don't all get frikin' power weapons for free.

Why did I waste my time even reading any of this? I have better things to do.

Yeah it's a bit over the top with every entry in elites having about 10 Universal special rules and 10 wargear entries as well.On top of that there was like 15 new special character entries...

Fake, I'm sure, but hey, at least it adds some excitement.

I barely made it through the HQ section, but only to see what the basic troops got.

The first HQ was a named crisis suit that had an attack with 2d6 Large blast templates for 100pts... um what?

That Codex falls under the rule "If it is to good to be true it probly is."

Ive seen a fair share to *leaked* files especially in the last 6 months. And its more often than not 3ed party content. From a quick look at this I am pretty sold on it not being the real deal.

Yea, WAY too many special characters, even though im a fledgling tau player that seems like ridiculous amount of characters

Shouldn't really be called a "leaked" codex, more like a fan dex.

Looked on the first page at the Anti psykers rule, instantly realize this is fake.

Edit: Scrolled down and saw the points and such of the first named character....

yeah definitely a fandex, those names x.x

Sethimath

Looks like a really really wishlisting fandex. Probably something a group of buddies made for some laughs. Even likely used it themselves for a few games for even more laughs.

did anyone get down to heavy support where hammer heads with rail guns now cost 100pts a peace and can be take as squadron of six. What the hell would you be firing at that you'd need six tanks to take it down.

Definitely doesn't look like a legitimate codex, or even a preliminary draft of one.

Kazwulf

Unless it looks extremely official, i.e. comes in PDF format with images/fluff/content ... then I am always going to bet the codex is fake.

Is a well done fan codex, but sadly that's all it is. good effort from the guy who did it tho

This codex would grab gk and throw them out the window, its extremely overpowered, i am 99% sure this is a fake, but is a nice buff, and has obvioulsy had a large amount of work done on it, nice try for a fan dex! :)

p00zer
03-17-2012, 06:25 PM
the fake is a lie.

hammer hades
03-18-2012, 01:08 AM
that was a miserable attempt at tenth post...
Anyways, apparently some of the rules correspond with the 6th ed leaked rule book so we can keep hoping =)

canoebuilder001
03-18-2012, 10:09 AM
Ha!

While some of the rules may look similar to the "leaked" info, this is a fan-dex. Who wouldn't like to take their army and tweak it to make it competitive. The Tau could use some help. But as you said, this is a very large buff too far. It seems to me like GW is phasing out eternal warrior, so the idea of every character having it is not very likely.

phreakachu

LOLMG... i know tau players are desperate for a new dex... but crap in a pita thats too over the top.

Osiris
03-19-2012, 11:20 AM
So this is obviously a joke, either a 12 year old wrote this or an absolute troll wrote it. I read the special rules and nearly died laughing. Needless to say I stopped there.

Edit: I want my five minutes back, troll.

I think this is the quintessential definition of a "wish-listing fan-dex." When you look that term up in the 40k dictionary, it will link to this document.

(Four Wounds, Eternal Warrior, and Counter Attack on every character? Come on....)

Tau is my main army and I can't wait for a new dex, however I would have to agree with you all this looks pretty fake.

I'm getting tired of the leaks. Half are bunk and the other half is hard to take. I guess I just invested too much hope to feel anything but skeptical of any new leaks.

03-22-2012, 07:47 AM
I got as far as the first unit entry and saw a special character for 100 points with daemon prince stats AND a crapload of wargear. ridiculous.
