So this is my first "big" Conversion. I am using the GW Paladin kit for the helm, body, arms, Storm Bolter, and a few accessories and I am using Privateer Press Protectorate Of Menoth Exemplar Bastions kit for the legs shoulder pads and halberd. I had to shave of the Protectorate Of Menoth symbols on the shoulder pads.

It was a real pain in the but getting the legs off that kit since their body comes as one solid piece of resin so I had to sit and slowly grind it down to where I wanted it.

Once the Green stuff is all cured up I need to do some cleaning up around the edges with an exacto knife and then start painting it up. I think it will look sweet painted and I will post more photos when I get around to it.

Neat conversion - the pauldrons are a tad big for me, but that's just a matter of personal taste.

It does look like he's (drunkenly?) tilting to the side, though - was the Examplar model leaning before you took the torso off? Maybe put a bit of slate/corkboard under his left foot when basing him to balance that out.

On an interesting note: this really exhibits how much more detailed the GW plastics are than the PP plastics.

It may just be the angle of the photo I took, I mean he is leaning sort of forward with his halberd out sort of like he is diving to the right, but yeah I was planning on modeling him on a slant in that direction.

With primer it tend to melt the look better in my opinion

Looks nice, I'd love to see a unit of them painted up. Kudos for the conversion work.

To be honest, I think the idea is cool, but the pieces used quality wise aren't the same. The privateer press model pieces cheapen the higher quality mold pieces of the GW pieces. I think just using GW pieces and adding more spruce and pazazz to the models to differentiate them from regular termies would be a better overall model.

Hey dave :P

It looks okay, the pauldrons are huge though. This is 40k though so everyone needs bigger pads.

I've been discovered ZOMG!!!

Also I love the big shoulder pads to me it makes them more epic looking... then again I use to play wow and you weren't a badass tank unless your shoulder pads looked like they fell of a freaking giant.

There is a lot of hate for PP minis on this thread oh man! GW does have more detailed models, but I almost feel like they don't care about their Space Marines because their armor is so bland and empty compared to other GW products.

Like the GW fantasy models are always so much prettier then the 40K stuff and way more detailed!

I wasn't hating, more just presenting an interesting aside. I didn't realize how big the disparity was until now. Though you're right; you can't tell nearly as much when the primer is applied.

I, too, think the pauldrons may be a bit large for the model, but I like everything else. The halberd ended up looking a lot better than I thought it would.

Again though I just love the huge pauldrons I don't know why. It makes them seem more armored then a normal termie and some how it justifies the fact they have 2 wounds in my cracked out little mind.

I honestly wasn't expecting the huge difference in quality between the two models. I like the stuff I have seen assembled and painted from PP they have a unique perspective on things, but yeah their models require a lot of cleaning up before you have a finished product. I also am not a fan of they really don't give you options in the kit. I mean each individual model was slipped from its spruce and packaged individual with all the bits you would need for THAT pose. Like what about creativity guys I mean people like to build and paint these things. Like the only way you would take more fun out of your model kits would be to pre-assemble and paint them.

I don't want to get in a huge diatribe about the things that irk me (a 5 model unit with only 3 unique sculpts...really?!?!).

I was more surprised at the difference in the depth of the detail. I always knew that the PP plastics didn't seem as "deep" when it came to detail undercuts, but you can really see it here.

I love the fact that you mixed the two together - really came out well.
Can't wait to see him painted up.

Yeah, and besides these are paladins, 2w models, they're supposed to be massive.

Nice idea and well executed but to me he looks a bit stumpy. Though I suspect thats the camera angle.

No, your right he is a little stumpy, but I still like how he is turning out. getting ready to sit down and start painting him up so I'll be posting updates later.

One things for sure, he is far more extravagant than your bog standard GK Terminator / Paladin. I like that and really thought the Pala should have looked more ornate than just a head swap. Look forward to seeing him painted.

Once the primer was applied it melded a lot better than the look before. You can see the detail difference, but the model conversion is really really cool. How much did it cost you to make this one paladin?

A very simple paint scheme but I really like it overall, and your freehand isn't bad. I think the conversion is really unique and turned out really well, kudos to you.

Aside from paint costs I actually won a box of Grey Knight Termies in a local tournament and I got the box of Exemplar Bastions on ebay for about $30. I still have the bits to make 4 more similar paladins, I just wanted to see how one came together first before I got mass producing them.

In the end total cost for additional bits was cheap thanks to ebay so per paladin (assuming I make 5) it was like $6 lol.

That really isnt that bad, to be honest, and the results are really cool and unique.

Thank you :-D I stole the idea from a friend who was using the Exemplar as his paladins and I wanted to try my hand at a conversion using them.

Yeah he looks cool, I like what you have done. It really distinguishes him from a normal GKT and I like that. Good job now show us a full 5 man squad :D

Working on it actually, it's just such a pain in the *** to cut the legs off of the Exemplar models... Solid resin is difficult at best to get through :-P

Just got the the rest of this 5 man squad assembled (sorry for the necro posting) I found a little hacksaw in my tool box and it made separating the legs of the PP models SOOOOOO much easier. Problem then was that the other shoulder pads were solid resin and didn't sit right on the models so I had to go at them and hollow them out to get them on. Hence why I decided the next set of models could do with only 1 cool shoulder pad a piece. Strangely I like how the lone badass shoulder pad looks now too. It some how makes them less 'boxy"

Also note the Psycannon conversion using a Psilencer for the base and some bits from a Storm Bolter (magazine) and random spru clippings (barrel)
