Just completed this the other day and figured I'd share.
My brother's started getting back into wargaming, and at my suggestion is starting up a Grey Knight army.
He was waffling for a while on what he wanted to do with the colour scheme for his army, so after asking a few questions I went ahead and cobbled together a test model for him to work on. I had some spare power armour bits laying about and pilfered some GK spares and voila! I whipped up a Brotherhood Champion, grabbed a spray paint I figured would work for what my brother wanted and got painting.
I wanted to keep the paint scheme really simple and straightforward so that my brother doesn't have any trouble getting his army together quickly - he doesn't have much time to spend on it, as it is. So I found a nice, lightly-textured boltgun-ish spray paint, did a drybrush over that with Mithril Silver, a heavy Asurmen Blue wash, and then another light silver drybrush for some additional highlights. Then picked out the details, figuring that the standard GK black/white/red would work well for his army's heraldry, given the armour colour. In particular with this mini I'm most proud of the blending on the cape.
Speaking of which, in case anyone's interested, the parts used on this model are as follows:
Head: Venerable Dreadnought helmet
Torso: SM Commander for backpack/iron halo, as well as cape; standard SM shoulder converted into psychic hood; spare GK chest
Arms/Weapons: Spare GK arm from a halberd set, converted to use a leftover force sword; bolter mag leftover from a Rhino pintle-mount; GK shoulder on left and Forge World Mark III SM armour on right; tilt shield taken from GK terminator set
Legs: FW Mark III SM armour
All that's left at this point is for my bro to base this guy and figure out what sort of decal he wants to represent his GK brotherhood on the right shoulder - and get cracking on the rest of this army. Hopefully this guy helps inspire him a little.
Criticism and critique is always welcome. :)
