In one Black Library novel I read, there was one battle where the protagonists fought a city's guard that had "power bows" for lack of a better term. They fired a beam of energy instead of arrows, and I was wondering what book it was in. I believe it was either from the Horus Heresy or Gaunt's Ghosts series, but I could not remember which. I wanted to see if I could model something like this and I wanted descriptions I could go from. If anyone knows what book or series they're from, that would be great.

That would be Horus Rising, the first book in the Horus Heresy at the very end of the book.

I was unaware that Horus conquered the Forest world of Kashyyk.

Wait... are you sure we aren't talking about this kind of Bow?

He means the Interex from the first Horus Heresy novel, they used energy weapons that looked like bows, I believe Aximand or Abaddon mocks the weapon until they find out the "arrows" fired from them literally pass through power armour.
