Hello All,
I'm working on True Scale SMs and need help rebuilding the cables/hoses that connect the power armor legs to the groin (ha). I've tried sculpting it myself, but I'm a perfectionist and not a good sculptor. I've also tried Dragonforge cables which are too small a diameter (but they are GREAT products and are being incorporated elsewhere).
Does anyone know a good substitution piece, method, or have an idea for someone who would take a commission to build a 6-10 inch length of 4.5 - 5 mm diameter ribbed cable? I think it would be an easier/quick buck for a good sculptor.
If you're curious you can see some of my True Scale Imperial Fists in this forum as well. I used GS on their legs (as I make a cut there to lengthen the legs/build height), but I want this next batch to look better.
Thanks in advance and Happy New Year.

A technique I use is wrapping solder around copper or brass wire. By varying the thickness of both the solder and the wire you can make cabling of just about any thickness. It's also very flexiable and easier to use then bass or guitar string.

Thanks; I tried solder but the problem is that the cable has to be shaped where it fits into the groin. The wire looked great, but I couldn't file it for a smooth/flush fit. That technique works awesome for longer cables. Let me know if I'm missing something.
I also tried stacking 8 exacto blades together and rolling a cylinder of GS across them for uniform serations but couldn't get it just right.....
Thanks again

have you tried guitar strings or bass guitar strings (bass strings are REALLY thick)
also cmon does a nice wee product for making these with gS!

Never tried them myself but their videos look frakkin sweet, could be just what you're after.
Good luck! :)

I have the set of these and think they're pretty great. The three different size are quite versatile - I've donew cables for everything for ear piece comm links right up to termi arm thickness for remodelling the nemesis dread Knight.
They work well with the greenstuff as it remains quite flexible after shaping so you can position it after curing to avoid damaging the cable detail

Try this site, it can be a pain to navigate but is a wealth of scratch building items. Search for 'cable' under "other" tab in the "supplies" section. The results range from 1.5 mm to 0.4 mm.

And this is why humble grasshopper sought the sages.
Thanks everyone. Seems like the Masq Mini tool might be the best. Anyone know of a US distributor for this? I didn't see it on CMON. I also saw a review for a similar product by GS Industries, but it looks like that makes cable similar to the Termie arm power cables, not the leg joints I'm looking for.
Rebel Grot- you think I'll be good for a diameter slightly smaller than SM thigh armor?
Thanks again, much appreciated. I made progress on the torsos last night and am excited to get a post going.
