I'm not one to jump on bandwagons, but that coven throne is easily one of the most amazing kits I've ever seen. I will be buying one and might just start a VC army to go with it. Isabella von Carstein is beautiful, too. First of the 'new' iteration of Carsteins that I like.
Coven Throne: Mangificient, perhaps GWs best plastic kit to date (coming from someone whoreally dislike VC until today, lol)
Mortis Throne: Still magnificieint, less interesting in my opinion.
Vargheists: Nifty, nothing too special though. Culd make some interesting DE grotesque conversions.
Crypt Horrors: More interesting, very nifty.
Wight King: Love it, another brilliant plastic character.
Black Knights: Want better pictures before I make a judgement, look great. Finally gets rid of that obscenely prices Finecast.
Hex Wraiths. Same as above, looking very promising though.
Krell: Incredible. InlKrellible? Urgh. I like it.
Isabella von Carstein: Beautiful, but scary. Reminds me of mother.
Carstein Upgrade pack: Not too interesting to me, but my brother (who has had a Carstein themed army since the mid 90s) is almost crying with joy.
Oh and Phil Kelly wrote the book? Yep, starting a Lahmian VC army.

as long as I get to say Cy@ to spamming the same spell 9 times in a row, vamps can do whatever the hell they please. Oh you didn't resurrect 900 point of grave guard and move them 16 inches this turn? Cool giant model of doom bro, meet my dwarven cannons.
edit: competitive spirit aside, the new engines are some of the most amazing models I have seen gw produce outside of skaven. Get that kind of energy into the next dwarf book and make me a ******* golem!
Merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah, smoky Kwanza, and good spirits to all human molecules.

Any word on re-sculpted Zombies? They've always been a favourite kit of mine (I actually play CSM with Nurgle units), but they're looking a bit tired now - I really feel they need an update.

but what does that magic card say? what's the lore attribute?
"whenever a spell from lore of vampires is successfully cast the wizard (or other friendly model within 12") regains a single wound lost earlier in the battle"
That's if my eyes aren't failing me (and they shouldn't be since they are my bread and butter).
Pretty weak lore attribute overall if that holds up. Still better than no attribute at all though.

ooooooohhhhhhhh very pretty :D i especially the large infantry and heroes. the big kits are really amazing too. im not sold on the knights: possibly due to my love of zombie horses and hate of cartoon skeleton horses (couldnt be hard to GS some skin)
all looks much better than what gw made even 2 years ago! im thinking that cheap copies, mantic and partially PP is making GW up their standards?!

That coven throne looks amazing. I may have to buy one and use it in my WoC army. Maybe make it into my warshine.
I hope all the VC players near me will get it. It will be fun playing against that!

OMG, I never, ever thought I would say this (and I really mean that) but I am now starting playing Warhammer in January!
Those kits are just quite simply amazing!
I have absolutely no idea how you would ever transport the coven thing, but I don't care, that is quite simply the best kit GW have ever produced.
Damn them!!! My poor wallet!!

I know how you feel StraightSilver. If you had said to me 24 hours ago I would even be considering a VC army today I would have laughed. Now, I've done it, I've ordered several packs of skellingtons, a batallion and the old-new plastic characters.
Edit: Ooh, oh my goodness, now I can buy that wight standard bearer from Warhammer Forge, too.

Hmmm...mixed feelings. That Coven Throne/Mortis Engine kit's technically superb, but it seems like a lot of over-the-top effects wrapped around a pretty basic idea that doesn't need them for an army that's not usually been so crazy. Still, I'd love a chance to see how that monster's built...
Vargheists look kinda awkward, but the Crypt Horrors are solid, if unremarkable. Good conversion fodder.
That Wight King kit...good lord, GW. Y'all keep making Finecast seem irrelevant with these gorgeous plastic character sets. Is there even one of these that's been less than spectacular?
Black Knights look really nice, except for that damnable batwing armor, which will never stop looking ridiculous. Really, guys, don't be like Doom 3 (http://penny-arcade.com/comic/2003/09/24)!
Krell? Perfect. Just perfect. Exactly what Krell should be. Communicates the whole concept with a cold, subtle efficiency. The big plastic kits could learn a lot from this guy.

Isabella is a gorgeous model. might buy one simply to paint.
Krell is a definate purchase! So much better than his classic mini. Closer to McNeils description of him in God-King.

The Throne with the vampire-damsells is so awesome ... so sad that iŽve quit wfb a long time ago ... but this one could be a nice model only to have it as a showpiece alone. Beautiful!

These models are great! I tried starting VC before, but got discouraged by what the changes to 8th did to them.
With new rules I'm existed to start the army. I'm getting ready to punch up a order for a bunch of mantic skeletons and zombies right now. I kinda like the GW skeletons more, so I plan on buying a few boxs of thows for the command squads/front ranks. Then the mantic stuff to fill it out.

Couldn't disagree more with this, I think the Coven Throne (less so the Mortis Engine) is technically, aesthetically and thematically superb. The idea of a coven of Lahmians riding a boudoir held aloft by a spectral horde of tortured souls into battle adds a far more creepy and genuinely horrific element to the Vampire Counts that has hitherto been missing. I imagine Mussorgsky's A Night on Bald Mountain playing when I see it.
Not trying to argue, belittle your opinion or change your mind, just expressing my own feelings on the kit.:)

I've not decided whether or not I'll be using Mantic models at all yet, I do like their ghouls but I prefer GW skellingtons and honestly if at all possible I want to minimise ghouls and zombies. Much more interested in a vampire and skellington heavy army.

Ah, Nagash - The Warhammer World's Foremost Children's Entertainer. He really does need a new model, even if done as one of those random side projects they put out every so often. Rules would be too overpowered to play him in games, but would be nice to see an awesoem new model.

Rules and such:
Another batch of input... (from reading through the WD at the store today)
Where should we start ?
Rules tidbits:
All Vampire has rule called "Hunger" - You get to roll a D6 when the vampire kills one or more models in combat, on a 6 you recovers one wound. (Vlad with Blood Drinker pass the roll on 4+)
Also Vampire, including vampiric creatures "such as" Varghulf and Vargheist, can march. So Vargheist will be able to move 20" per turn almost all the time. (not sure if Varghulf can also fly)
Vampiric Powers: (not all of them, just those mentioned in WD)
Flying Horror - give the vampire ability to fly (unsure)
Dread Knight - ability to boost WS (don't know how - but a Vampire Llord with Dread Knight has WS of 9)
Quickblood - gains ASF
Master of the Black Arts - get to re-roll one D6 for the Winds of Magic.
Dark Acolyte - add D3 to the total number of models raised by Nehek.
Red Fury - should be about the same. (unsure)
New units:
I think that's all I've seen in the WD...
BTW, Heinrich Kemmler is back in finecast (and in the book) for sure. But on the original sculpt, no new miniature for him. (at least for now)
Cheers,
ZAlpha

Quite like the Isabella Von Carstein. Might convert her to be an Inquisitor or Dark Eldar.
Likewise, the two Vampire ladies on the throne-thing will be useful for conversions. Those huge crypt ghouls will make a nice base for some more DE Grotesques.
That throne thing though? Most ridiculous thing I've seen from GW in a loooooong time. Can't argue with the quality of the detailing, but it's just so stupid. It's stupid like big dogs. So far over-the-top it may have actually stolen Nagash's crown as GW's Dumbest Model. I mean, probably not, Nagash is absolutely terrible and this thing at least has the vampire ladies you can use for conversions, but still - awful. Dreadful, dreadful model, and not in the way they intended.

Gah... I'm trying to resist the temptation to start a fantasy army (not helped by several of my friends starting them) as I want to reduce my backlog of unpainted figures and finish my 40k army. The Terrorgeist, Cairn Wraith and Banshee were tempting enough, but now Krell, Wight King and the Coven Throne too... *sob*

Deadlift is correct. The stuff on the GW website is aimed at the vastmajority of GW customers who don't trawl forums for rumours like addicts.;) The 'totally accidentally leaving information GW wouldn't mind being leaked around people whom they know will leak things' policy is aimed at building up in the minority of customers who DO trawl rumours for forums like addicts and like to feel like theyare 'sticking it to the man' by seeing thse things early.
I think it is one of GWs better teaser videos actually, it was very atm'sferrick.

What a curiously intriguing trailer we showed off yesterday. I wonder what could possibly go on advance order this Friday - something involving crypts, graveyards and bats by the looks of it. But anyway, enough of the speculation, you'll just have to be patient and wait for Friday.
From the GW blog on Wednesday, seems advance orders are going up today not on saturday. Hopefully sooner rather than later. This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=s2xn5g1ZMrw) is the trailer in question.

In addition to the new figures, a load of the older ones get re-released in Finecast including Heinrich Kemmler and the Black Coach.
