I will wait until it's up on GW's site. I live in the US and it's far cheaper for me to order on gw.com (free and faster shipping!)

But soooo looking forward to this!

Well, chances are after millions of years of evolution and the importance of gender being reduced to being a purely biological one, Eldar are all pansexuals.:p

I'm sure I saw somewhere on the Facebook FW page that the Farseer was a he. And hat no model was planned.

Figures, though on the facebook site they said he was male as far as he could recall so hopefully he is wrong.:p Another wasted opportunity though, if it is a male.

Just saw that they airfreighted a small quantity of books in to put up for order while they wait for the bulk to arrive, that explains the mystery of how the shipping containers were in China a few days ago.

So did anyone see that shadow spec page....I know its a little hard to read but it looks like they got a huge bump in power (from what I could make out). It looks like they have 18" range with 2 modes. 5++ which turns into a 4++ if greater then 12" away. couldn't make much more out. But those changes make me happy.

Mine still says its awaiting packaging

EDIT - Also FW have just put up a new video dev blog about it. Just looks and sounds very good! The artwork...always knew it was stunning but that backdrop at 4:16 is unbelievably gorgeous. Easily shapping up to be the most beautiful of all the FW books

Well if youre an eldar player get mymeara. EVERY fw eldar unit is in it. And they are 40k approved cos its practically just a codex extension. They might not have stamps but are legal.

No stamp means opponent consent, and I have to write armies not including them. Stamp means I use them no matter what.

Right, because no true Eldar player would want the gender of the characters to actually reflect the backgrounf of the race, would they?

Watching you ceaselessly whine and moan about the lack of political correctness in a game of toy soldiers overcomes any desire I have for the model line to reflect any fictional consistency.

eldargal
12-20-2011, 08:23 AM
It isn't political correcntess, it is the races background. Eldar have no gender distinctions, yet females are limited to five our of 80 or so sculpts in the current range and there is only one female SC out of eight. That doesn't fit the fluff. If you are really so moronic as to mistake this for political correctess, perhaps you should go play Space Marines, no girls there, it would probably suit you perfectly.

StraightSilver
12-20-2011, 09:14 AM
I have to say I agree with Eldargal on this one, it isn't political correctness but simply background material.

The Eldar are influenced by Celtic history and mythology in many ways and the Celts also had no gender restrictions regarding warriors.

Amongst the Eldar it doesn't matter whether you are male or female, you still get to follow the path of the warrior.

There should be as many females as males, and yet the only female aspect warriors available are banshees.

The Dark Eldar don't suffer from this problem, something like 40% of the Wyches and Kabbalites boxes are female.

However i would also like to point out the the fluff for Cadia is the same, men and women are drafted into the Cadian armed forces in equal measure, and yet there are no female Cadian models.

It just seems very short sighted in this day and age to assume the young boys might get distracted from buying toy soldiers if some of them are women!

So GW, let's not have female guardsmen in your novels and video games, or female Eldar in your fluff if you won't back them up with minis.

eldargal

It is interesting that Gav Thorpe mentioned he wanted to highlight the 'fluid' attitude Eldar take to gender and gender roles in the Path series but felt it would be a bit much for the readers (there was quite a bit about a male Howling Banshee that was reduced to a mere mention). If Defenestratus' reaction to the mere possible presence of more female sculpts is any indication, his concerns were well founded.

But yes, it has nothing to do with 'political correctness' (Daily Mail reader? lol) and everything with the background. If we took Defenestratus statement as at all credible, thn the DE range would be a triumph of political correctess. Actually it just fits the races fluff, and I want to see the Craftworld range do the same. Anyone who thinks this is political correctness is either an idiot or doesn't know what political correctness is.

I do want Cadians to have female sculpts for the same reason, they are GWs poster boy regiment and we know the entire population is drafted into the military so there should be some girls there. Then you have Tanith, I think, regiments that have mixed gender or female-only regiments. It would be nice to see sculpts for those, too, but honestly I'd rather see plastic Valhallans, Tallarn, Mordians etc. first.

It just seems very short sighted in this day and age to assume the young boys might get distracted from buying toy soldiers if some of them are women!

And there we have the political correctness!

To even make mention of the fact that, *gasp* some segment of a male consumer demographic would prefer to NOT purchase female miniatures would be tantamount to a cardinal sin in the church of political correctness.

But whatever. For some reason you've made it abundantly clear to the whole wargaming internet that you want every single new model coming out for Eldar to be female - and for the life of me I can't figure out if it infuriates me or just makes me laugh that someone cares that much about it.

DrLove42
12-20-2011, 02:39 PM
Children play nice....people are allowed to have opinions...this is the internet after all :p

I agree with both sides, there does needto be more balence in a lot of the GW armies that can allow it.

But at the same time saying something needs to be female just cos the balence isn't there isn't really fair

I think Eldargal's point is that the background strongly establishes a more equal role for male and female eldar on the battlefield but this is rarely (apart from Banshees) followed through into the characters and models on the tabletop.

It's like having the Space Wolves established as a close combat heavy legion/chapter and then making them most effective hiding in razorbacks and behind long fang missile launchers.

...Oh :(

:p

Is there any fictional basis for the assumption that the gender breakdown of the Eldar race is close to the 50/50 split that the alien gender equity advocates would like to see implemented?

"Both male and female Eldar move along the Eldar Path in the way described, so Warriors are equally likely to be male or female." - WH40k Compilation, pg 48 'Aspect Warriors'.

eldargal
12-20-2011, 11:57 PM
That would be a resounding 'yes', which is why I recommend you actually know what you are talking about before having a hissy fit, Defenestratus. It is ironic that far from me trying to project my political views on the setting, it is you that are doing that by trying to insist that the Eldar background be ignored in favour of your own perverse ideas.

I don't want to see every Eldar model being female, that is absurd. I want to see the ratio be nearer to where it should be, as it is with the Dark Eldar range. That is all. I think FW missed an opportunity by not having one of its Eldar SCs female, and I am mildly dissapointed, not whining, not advocating anything, just mildly dissapointed. That you see the dissapointment of those that would like to see more female Eldar characters as a selling point says an awful lot about your (lack of) character.

Yes but that doesn't mean necessarily that the pool of available warriors are equally divided between male and female.

I cant believe I got drawn into an argument over the gender of make believe space elf warriors.

Its all ridiculous. Just as ridiculous as caring either way that a model is or isn't female.

eldargal

Quite right, pity it had to be derailed in the first place. But sadly the thread has probably run its course regardless, FW have said there won't be any more Eldar in the foreseeable future and IA11 has been released so no real call of a news and rumours thread on the subject. There is a IA11 discussion thread in the General section now, though.:)
