We knew a book was coming, now we have some more details:
Today I bought me the December WD and there is a new release for December which is a 96 page hardback campaign book called 'Blood of the Badlands'.
This is a specific add on to the rules book containing rules for siege gameplay and rules for playing in vast caverns underground. There is a small battle report of Dwarfs facing Skaven with some of the siege rules revealed. I have to say that I really love it. The gameplay looks like fun.
Especially the fact that you can purchase siege equipment by spending siege points; the amount of siege points is equal to starting point for the army, so a 2000pts army can purchase up to 2000 siege points of equipment.
There are rules for cauldrons of boiling oil (very destructive apparently), steam-powered rams, siege towers, and much much more.
Anyway, I am getting this add on for sure! :D
So, siege and underground warfare, happy days. There have also been old rumours of a new plastic castle kit GW were waiting for the opportune time to release. Might be we see that soon, too.

So, more expansions we don't need or want, that require yet more stuff to play, won't get played by many people and will be almost instantly forgotten by GW? I'm normally all for GW making new stuff, but I'm really started to get a bit jaded by these expansions. Anyone remember Planetstrike? Spearhead? Storm of Magic? Anyone still play them?

My gaming club still plays all of those expansions. I ,personally, am looking foward to the new expansion. I like the options of having different scenarios to play. Also, having these options allow for more interesting campaigns and tournaments. After the new book hits, I believe I will run a tourney with 1 mission from
each book, normal, storm and siege.

I get it's useful for stuff like that and I know some people will play it, but to someone who plays with a small group of friends they really are little more than a novelty and if I want that I'll play one of the SG's. I just don't understand how in the 15 odd months since the release of 6th ed we have had just three new army books compared to what looks like two new expansions. What is the point of releasing extra rules when there are armies which are somewhat hampered by the standard rules?
But hey, I guess some people will like it and it probably hasn't taken them long to make, so a cheap source of profit. I'm not looking to start an argument, just grumbling about GW's priorities.

I agree with you that some of the older books should get some love as well. Woodelves and Brets need some serious work. However I do believe that's havind new scenarios and rule advancement is a refreshing change than the same 4 games that a tourney can offer. (Watchtower and the one with breaking points don't do well in competitive play). I respect you opinion, and we will see just how gimmicky the book really is. I do know that I would like the ship combat from the Generals compendium to get some love somewhere down the line.

GWs priorities are to put out things they think will be popular and make them the most money in the shortest period of time. Releasing SoM then another expansion six months later with presumably new terrain instead of monsters seems quite sensible in that regard. When it comes to Wood Elves they are apparently unsure how to do them justice so it may take some time. Hopefully not Dark Eldar/Necron time, though you can't deny it was worthe wait. GW seems to be going for the 'it is ready when it is ready' approach which I think is a good thing.:)

But I'm ready for it now! I know what there are priorities are, i just they are wrong. Their priorities should be to please their customers, specifically me! :D

Titbit from BramGaunt:
Maybe one should mention that this is the first of several books.
Translation of WD text:
Blood in the Badlands is a 96 page hardback campaign book for Warhammer. Inside you'll find new background, a complete set of campaign rules, four massive multi-player scenarios, a Warhammer Siege expansion as well as additional rules for playing Warhammer in vast caverns below ground. All this is framed within an exciting studio campaign, as eight players, including the White Dwarf team, seek to carve out the largest empire so the ensorcelled castle, Fozzrik's Flying Fastness, will land in their realm and its amazing treasures within can be claimed. £20.

Sculpted by Giorgio Bassani, which amuses me no end because there were a bunch of morons on Warseer insisting it was sculpted by Trish Carden. The logic went as follows: I don't like Trish Cardens sculpts, I don't like the Jabberslythe, the Jabberslythe is sculpted by Trish Carden.
