Hi all havent played much of any warhammer and just started playing a yr ago with the first necrons. With the new codex out and new models without units that a purchasable I figured id give a go on my very first scratch building. I used various parts of other models to try and get the look of course its not perfect but I give it my all. Still incomplete as I am missing twin linked testa dest... and figuring out how im going to place a tiny lil necron in the center...but over all im happy with the build. :)

thanks all =) appreciate the praise , going to build 1 more night and then 2 dooms and then time to figure out how im going to build them doom blades...or i might just scrap them and wait for the models and just run destroyers in the interim. Cant wait to finish the rest of the scythes and figure out a new paint scheme for my newly soon to be revamped necron army

Looking very nice, although having something to compare for scale would be good. Care to tell us what you used? Others might want to give it a shot as well. >.>

Most of it came from the Necron Command Barge , I used the wings , the base , the rear armor , thruster assembly , and a chopped up destroyer base , thruster assembly , and skeletal frame for the back tail of the Night Scythe... Going to be casting and making a smaller Tesla Destructor as the one that comes with the Command Barge is HUGE! and will not look proper. But as requested here is a scale shot. Its not that large as the body base I used is a Destroyer. But on a Base I think it could pass as a "rhino sized" object to shoot at.

I used two iPhone 4's as a scale base as thats all I had on hand at the time.

Enjoy!

And thank you all for the critiquing its more then welcome!

Also seeing as the Codex says there is NO type of Troop transport area in the Night Scythe as the "phase" in from a portal located on the Night Scythe...something of Land Raider size might not make sense ...we at least thats the way I interpreted the reading in the book ;) But rhino size I think is proper.

Like a giant HAL 9000 eye? lol that'd be something haha I think I can manage a regular necron in there just need to cut him down to fit. But well see ... Im looking at the Command Barge pilot sprue its looking quit promising.

ummm if I am reading what you just said your wrong its 15 models and can carry jump infantry and jet bikes (they take up 3 slots)....

Edit..... Never mind I just figured out what you were saying and yes there is no "Door" to get out just the bottom phase in and out thing.

*snip pics, text*

Very nice, thank you much. I like the overall design a lot, but I would find it a bit small for my tastes, but I certainly wouldn't complain if someone were to drop that down across from me. Looking forward to seeing more pics as you finish it up.

I hate you... Yours is so good so far.
I was really hoping that mine would be the best. (I know, Im modest :P) However yours looks so close to the actual pictures! Ive seen a lot of scratch-builds for the Scythes but most ignore a lot of blatant details like the cockpit or the engine.
I really hope yours keeps going so good. Don't forget that orb thing on the bottom of the Night Scythe. I can only assume thats what they use to teleport the troops in.

I would like to point out on the size. If you look at the Doom Scythe picture assuming the pilot is the same size as a normal Necron Warrior, the size of the craft would only be a few inches wide and tall. I came up with about 4"x4". So it doesn't seem to be all that large.
The smaller size makes sense though. As it doesn't actually carry troops, the large capacity has no impact on the size. Also, even though its heavily used for initial invasions, it is also used for scouting and sneaking past defenses for strategic deployments. A large size would not be very helpful. Since the only things the Necron need on the Scythe chassis is weaponry and/or the captive wormhole, they probably don't need to be a very large platform.

We will ultimately need to wait till the official model to get a final say, however if the pictures are any indicator I can only suspect it being notably small.

So I have figured out how and wear to mount the tesla destructors and I was forced to make a cockpit type of area to hold the necron but I think it still holds the shape well. Will put together one and have it primed and posted asap. I am working on 2 other scythes at the moment while ive been figuring out placement of weapons and cockpit.

Got weapons molded , using the smaller tesla cannons since the "destructors" on the barge are just massive beyond belief. Also molded some what of a **** pit to place a necron in its open top like the picture but the necron model was way to big to just fit in that lil circle but I think overall it came out nice. Will apply the final touches this weekend over thanksgiving break and update new images with a completed and primed Night Scythe :D

Happy Thanksgiving all thats if you have that in your country if not..happy "insert holiday here" day :D

regarding the fitting of a pilot, with it being necron wouldnt they just be wired in rather like the destoyer body? ie no legs?

yes but in the image of the night scythe in the codex they are laying down in a "coffin like shaped" c0ckpit so I gave it a good and made one to some what resemble the pit. The pilot is not hooked or attached like a destroyer. Looks like a full figured necron warrior in there. So imma just cut up a warrior lay him flat and stick em in a layed back position in the pit.

Im sure youve spent longer pouring over the pics than me.

Will have to have a look at the 'dex

First attempts with instant mold passable. One day will be up to something of this calibre

Well this is the gist of my Necron paint scheme and one completed Night Scythe. Been a long process but its paid off. So far im 2 / 1 / 0 with my new army. Still working out the kinks and exactly what I should field but all in all im having a blast!
