View Full Version : Dice for the Dice God!

Went to a local tournement this last weekend with my good solid list

And got hammered all weekend long

And looking back on it I don't know why. I have a good army, as it started to show in the last 2 games, i used clever tactics and tricked my opponents into ambushes laid down 2 turns before and yet still couldn't do anything

Then i realised something. I couldn'r roll for sh**. Worst example is having a 20 man warrior squad with 2 cannons shoot....thats 48 shots. Needing 3's to hit. I hit ONCE. 1 6 and 47 1's and 2's. According to my rough maths the probability of that is about 1 in 2,660,000,000,000,000,000,000

So the eventual point of this post is this. Im doing what every sane and intelligent person in my position would do. Buying new dice. The old ones are obviously broken :P

Now how do I punish/sacrifice the old dice?

By only using them for leadership tests?

Pics should be taken what ever course you take.

For myself, I prefer taking all my dice out to the garage, arranging those that haven't offended me in a wide circle, with six's facing up. I put the offending dice in the center of the circle, one's facing up. I then take a blow-torch to the dice in the middle, until they are burnt down to slag. I then leave all the dice in the garage overnight to reflect on why they are there.

Something must be used as a sacrifice before the tournament, and to show the new dice what happens when they roll poorly...

Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
Dice who roll poorly

And this is why you should actually drink during any tournament you play in. Any game that relies on randomness to dictate some of the most important outcomes doesn't deserve any better :D.

At least thats why we tell ourselves we drink while we play...

Buy bigger dice. Bigger dice tend to produce more even results while smaller dice are more likely to roll ones than anything else. The little GW dice roll almost 20% ones.

1/6 = .166667

That is almost twenty by some standards! :D

What ever you choose, I want in. My dice were almost as poor as yours, and I have a whole tin of dice that have offended me even more (and are spray painted blue, but that is another story)...

I like the idea of fire and/or a large hammer; probably lump of sledge. Unless... Does your department at uni have any access to particularly fun machines? Could we gain access to the EDMC and/or possibly some lasers? I'm guessing we wouldn't be allowed to release the dice into the fans in any of the wind tunnels. Shame, cus the survivors would obviously be lucky...

It really might be your dice, if it's conistent. The way most dice are manufactured can be pretty inconsistent when it comes actually producing dice that roll 'average'. Unevenly rounded corners and inconsistent faces produce skewed results.

If you REALLY want a fair shake, invest in Casino Dice instead of El Cheapo Dice.

Granted, he's pushing a product, but that doesn't mean it's not true.

No that won't work, the dice are clearly cursed with bad luck so the one time you roll high will be on that crucial leadership test.

I like the gruelling elimination process where I weed out the dice which are performing the worst and banish them for the rest of the game. This sometimes serves as reminder to the others of the price of failure. If that doesn't work, the best to get rid of your cursed dice. Give them as a 'gift' to a 'friend'.

I always wanted to own dice with one's being a fluer de lis..

For me, i own standard dice that work fantastic, but when someone else rolls them they suffer for it. Not loaded, not cheating, just luck i guess.

Not sure if it helps but Chessex does custom dice. http://chessex.com/Dice/Custom_Dice_Home.htm

you could get them there.

I think you need to single a few out as an 'example' to the remaining dice.

I suggest a hammer. I would also suggest you kill off the ones rolling 2's. Those are the worst.

Pick out 2 dice, make sure the rest of the dice block are watching: vigorously apply hammer

If they persist, do it once more. After that chuck 'em, and get new dice!

If he honestly stacked the blemish to blemish and non blemish to non blemish, on his dice, then he is right.

But his physics is right.
However, I would rather have the egg shaped ones for saving :P
I might however, if running tournaments supply my own dice, and if someone wants to use their own, ill point them to his video.

Edit: Bah noticed I cant just buy a d6 tub from him

You would be basing that on the assumption that GW dice have a 1/6 chance of landing on a 1.

I am going to give a shout out to Chessex, My wife and I gave 6-sided dice out at our wedding and it was very cheap to get custom dice. And I use all the extras for Warhammer!
