With the release of the new codex my necrons have some new toys to play with.
some WIP shots of the first batch an Overlord, command barge and two units of lychguard

overlord - mostly done, just needs some touch ups to the colours before washes ect are applied.

lychguard - these guys have only had the base colour spayed on. colour is citadel beaten copper if anyones interested. looks rather gold in these pictures but it more red IRL.

How did you get such a nice metallic red?

I have found that if you wash color over metallic, you can get a pretty decent metallic color.

Blood red and shining gold 50/50 makes a lovely metallic red, Isotopes pre-heresy thousand sons gave the idea of trying it for my Knights of Blood marines. Worked out great.

Agree the metallics look good.

My suggestions:

Use a different colour for the weapon hafts so they don't match the arms.

Add some more detail to the orbs, like a lightning effect, swirly gas effect or just extra highlighting. They are a focus point for the model.

If you want to keep them simple, I'd recommend a metallic green (dark angels green and mithril silver) rather than a flat green.

I wanted the overlord to stand out on the table have the many colours.

the red is achieved by painting a drawing ink over the base colour. (pantone warm red 2x-Ti to be exact.) this goes on as a transparent glaze so any variations in the base colours come through.

Yea the hafts are going to be a different colour.

The orbs were just blocked in at the time of photos are are getting some more detail.

I think a badab black, or ogryn flesh wash over the entire model would really bring in some depth to the bright colors and make it look amazing.

Agree with the washes, but with that Red and Gold Devlan Mud is my best advise on a wash. Gives it shadows and really helps reds and golds pop
